Halloween 2011: A Purr-fessional, Yet Easy, Cat Look

After prepping clean skin with a makeup primer, Jordan used a cosmetic sponge to dab face paint onto the upper half of the face, including across the nose. If you have pale skin, you could use a crème foundation made for dark skin tones, but if you have olive or dark skin, go for a fun bright color. We used Kryolan Aquacolor paint in a vivid orange.

Next, dab white face paint onto the lower half of the face, including the upper lip. You can take this look down the neck as far as you wish.

Use a chubby, soft eyeliner pencil or face crayon to establish the shape of the face. “You want a really nice, soft pencil,” Jordan says.

Draw the lines of the nose, cheek, and muzzle. “You can go and fill them in later,” Jordan says. On the upper eyelid, create a heavy, winged eyeliner look.

Draw the spots freehand with your pencil. (With a pencil this soft, you’ll need to sharpen a few times) “Go for some irregularity to make it look natural,” Jordan says. “This part is a little time-consuming, but it’s really easy.”

With the spots finished, use the pencil to color in the area in the center of the nose and the bottom of the nostrils.

Fill in the bottom lip with a pink lipstick. You can use a bright hot pink or something softer and more muted.

Draw on a few whiskers.

“With a complicated look—especially if it’s not waterproof—it’s a good idea to use a fixative spray to keep everything in place,” Jordan says. We used Kryolan Fixing Spray.
