Solutions for Redness Relief
My skin is really sensitive and easily irritated, which I find super-annoying. I’ve always wanted to be one of those people who could do anything to my skin—like use a grainy scrub—and have it be unaffected, but nope, I’m not that girl. Living in Los Angeles doesn’t help either. Between the smog and the sun and the current crazy Santa Ana winds, I feel like my very fair skin is red and irritated half of the time. Luckily, I’ve managed to find a few products that keep it under control and they all work so well, I’m never letting them run out.

Dermalogica’s UltraCalming Mist is a great soothing and hydrating mist that I use in the morning and at night instead of toner, which is too harsh for my skin. I love the way it makes my skin feel and since it’s so gentle (without any artificial fragrance or color), it definitely helps relieve sensitivity. It’s a little pricey, but the bottle lasts forever and it’s totally worth it. Plus, because it’s a spray and you don’t need to use any cotton balls or pads to apply it, it’s easy to throw in your bag and take with you.
Before I put on my foundation, I always use Smashbox Color Correcting Primer in Adjust. Its green color counteracts redness, and the formula is the same as the regular clear primer that’s a cult favorite. There’s a reason why so many people love it. It feels soft on my skin and helps my makeup stay on forever. It’s the kind of product that once you use it, you’ll never want to be without it again, because it makes your skin look so much better. Especially since it helps bring my face back to its normal pasty white shade!
Finally, on top of the primer, I use Clinique Redness Solutions Makeup SPF 15 with Probiotic Technology. It’s a liquid foundation that has probiotics, antioxidants, and SPF 15 to help soothe your skin and stop it from looking red. It’s also oil-free, so it won’t make your skin shiny, and it gives a nice, even coverage. This is the most recent addition to my product regimen and I’m a big fan now. Good foundations are always hard to find, and I wasn’t expecting to come across one that not only made my skin look good, but also helped with its sensitivity. Thank God for science and product advancements!
