There’s lots to love about Emma Stone—her gorgeous skin (which we hope never ever sees the inside of a tanning bed), her luscious red hair, and her ability to make out with Ryan Gosling without inspiring our hatred. But what we really admire about Emma is her love of wearing bright, punchy makeup. Instead of being hindered by her flaming red hair, she complements it with colorful shadows and lipsticks. Here’s how to get her most recent knockout look from the 2012 Critics’ Choice Movie Awards.
1. Apply a Foundation, Not a Mask
If your skin is one of your best features, don’t cover it up with a heavy matte foundation—choose one that provides coverage to even out redness, but allows skin’s natural radiance to shine through. 2. Enhance Eyes with Color
When wearing deep purples, greens, or blues, the trick is to use the shadow in moderation and pair it with the right lipstick. Start by applying a primer to keep the shadow in place (try Smashbox Photo Finish Lid Primer, $20 at Sephora), then a flesh-toned shadow (whatever matches your skin) on the lid and crease. If you have green eyes and coloring like Emma, use a small eye shadow brush to apply a dark-blue metallic shadow like Estée Lauder Pure Color EyeShadow in Midnight Star ($20 at Esteelauder.com) to both the upper and lower lash line. Then wet an angled liner brush and use the same shadow to tightly line around the entire eye. Finish with two coats of black mascara.
