Butter London Springs Ahead

As much as I love nail collections that have twelve or more new shades in them, they make it hard on both my wallet and my decision-making ability. I inevitably stand in front of the display, comparing shades and trying to figure out which ones are too close to ones I already own and which are must-haves. That’s why I appreciate the pared-down Butter London collections, usually with a carefully cultivated five colors per release. It just makes taking them all home that much easier to justify! The new Spring/Summer 2012 Collection has just hit stores and out of the five shades, three of them are already in my stash.

Besides the colors, I really love the names that Butter London chooses for their shades. They’re always hilarious, usually with double entendres in the form of British slang.

Disco Biscuit is a tropical hot pink with tiny iridescent glitter particles. Bright and perfect for spring, it’s also a club term for a tablet of ecstasy from the early ’90s. (Who knew?)

Bossy Boots is a light, opaque pistachio green—a great way to put a fresh twist on neutrals for spring. It’s also a derogatory name for someone who is bossy or pushy, usually reserved for children. I feel like it’s possible that my parents may have called me this at some point when I was little. (Come on, what’s the point of having a younger sister if you can’t boss her around once in a while?)

Slapper is a bold, bright teal, very in-your-face and trendy. For me, it would be a pedicure shade, but I’ve seen a lot of women rock colors like this on their fingers and look great.

Trout Pout is an opaque shade of cantaloupe, bright but not overwhelmingly so, an interesting way to wear a shade that goes with everything without being boring. It’s also a mean way to describe a woman who has overdone it with the collagen in her lips and has a fishy looking face. (This one I knew because, you know, I live in Los Angeles…enough said).

Knackered is the final shade in the collection, and by far my favorite. It’s described as a sheer, twinkling oyster shade flecked with micro-glitter particles. In England, the word also means to be tired or exhausted, but I’m anything but tired when I look at it because it’s so, so pretty. It’s so unique that it’s hard to describe, but it’s sort of a blue-green sparkly shimmer. You really need to see this one in person to appreciate how gorgeous it is. You won’t be able to leave the store without it!
