Get the Look: French-Girl Cool from Kate Spade

Break out your berets and start hoarding croissants, because if the first few days of Fashion Week are any indication, we’ll all be dressing like Parisians come fall. At the Kate Spade show, the French-influenced clothes were offset by a soft, smoky makeup look and sharp, geometrical hair. We talked to Neil Scibelli, the lead makeup artist for Jouer Cosmetics, who created the classic smoky look. Here’s how to get it for yourself.

1. Lighten and Brighten
This look features skin that’s clean and dewy. Neil started by prepping models with Jouer Luminizing Moisture Tint for light coverage. Apply this sheer tinted moisturizer to even skin tone while leaving it nice and natural. Models also wore Jouer Age-Repairing Eye Brighteners around the eyes and cheekbones to emphasize the dewiness of the look. Set the foundation with Jouer’s Mineral  Face Powder, or any translucent loose powder to minimize shine.

2. Create Soft Smoke
This smoky eye is edgy, but still wearable and natural. Over foundation, use a small shadow brush to lightly line lower lids with Jouer Powder Eyeshadow in Amaretto, and then use a larger brush to apply shadow in Capuccino to the crease to create the natural smokiness. Use Jouer’s Eye Definer Pencil in Noir on both the upper and lower lids, and finish with two coats of black mascara.

3. Say “Fromage”
To match the edgy eyes, Neil applied Jouer Tint Lip and Cheek Tint in Orchid to the lips, pressing gently and making sure the overall look was natural and not too “neat.” He finished with a swipe of Jouer Mineral Powder blush in Peony.  (products available at JouerCosmetics.com)
