Eleven Nutraceuticals to Try: Drink Yourself Beautiful
In addition to all the outward actions women take to be beautiful, one of the fastest-growing segments of cosmetic products is “nutraceuticals”—products that work from the inside. These pills, powders, beverages, and snacks are purported to contain vitamins, minerals, and other ingredients that will promote clear skin, anti-aging, and weight loss and correct scores of other appearance-related problems.
Although the New York Times reports that the market for nutraceuticals grew 306 percent between 2005 and 2008, the jury’s still out on whether the products actually work. Many dermatologists suggest that the very same nutritional benefits these supplements provide can be achieved simply by eating a healthy diet, and that sunscreen, water, and not smoking are still the best methods for getting and staying beautiful. But if you’ve got the inclination—and the cash—there’s a supplement to target just about every concern.
