SPF Options for Protecting Summer Skin
As the temperature changes, we change the products that we apply to our face. A common approach is to use less foundation and more sunscreen. However, for your face, sunscreen may not be the only option for shielding the sun. I have found three simple options to add SPF to your daily routine without changing much of anything at all.
SPF is available in an array of products. Moisturizer is one common item that has SPF in it. I prefer not to apply moisturizer with SPF because I believe everything in my moisturizer should be beneficial to my skin, and for some people, SPF can cause problem skin. But if you don’t wear makeup and prefer to get your dose of sun protection this way, I would recommend having a secondary moisturizer on hand for nighttime wear.
Another option for adding SPF to your routine is to apply a primer with SPF prior to your foundation or tinted moisturizer. For example, Mac Cosmetics has a great product called Prep and Prime with SPF 50. The best part about applying a primer with SPF is that the product is made to create a barrier on top of the skin, so it doesn't sink in as a moisturizer would. This is a simple option that can be used with or without foundation.
Last but not least, a great way to protect your skin from the sun is to use a foundation with SPF. There are many brands that carry foundation with this option, but usually they offer lower levels of coverage, around SPF 15 or so.
Taking care of your skin this summer is a surefire way to maintain beautiful skin year round.
