From Around the Web:
Newman's Own is a great example of a celebrity-run company that's booming and charitable. Celebrities who are smart realize that their looks will fade over time, and that they owe it to themselves (and the charities they can benefit) to do something for the greater good. Not to mention prove that they have brains to go with their beauty.

A lot of people hate on Kim Kardashian, but I am a big fan of hers. Because she wasn't really all that famous (just well known), and I think she has worked really hard to get where she is. Props to her, and all the other entrepreneurial stars.

I wonder when celebrities stopped being just famous and became a brand. I agree that it's smart to branch out into different industries, since not everybody gets the opportunity to continue working as actors or singers forever. But what I'm wondering is what sparked the move from actor or singer to entrepreneur? Or has this always been going on?
