I bought a new dress. We bought tickets two weeks in advance. We made reservations at the swankiest restaurant in the city and had a round (alright, a few) of cosmos (duh) before heading to the theater. The line to get our seats was around the block. Nearly three hours later, we walked out pissed off, disappointed, and wishing we had gotten another round (or three) of cosmos. I hated the Sex and the City movie. It didn’t channel the chills, heartfelt emotion, and depth of the series. What did you think?
What Did You Think of the Sex and the City Movie?
I saw it once and now I'm like eh, there, I've seen it. It certainly lacked something the series had. I don't know; it just didn't have me in that, "NY frame of mind". Once you got into the series you slipped into the show, even with the edited versions on TBS, I'm there. With the movie, I just didn't get there. The laughter didn't tickle as much, the tears didn't sting as much, the wit just wasn't as witty. Though I'd watch again if I had nothing else to do and would definitely watch a second one if it came out.

I loved it and was disappointed all at the same time. On a strictly fluffy, chick-flick level it was great. But I was disappointed in the way Big treated Carrie. When he was upset with the wedding planning and said it was his 3rd time, I really wanted her to say "but it's my FIRST, Mr. Selfish!" And I would have liked a little more work on getting them back together, if they even got back together.
I don't know. Mr. Big is hot and sexy and a nice guy, for the most part, but he also can treat Carrie like shit and she consistently takes it.
But then again, it was just a movie and the fluff factor was fantastic! :)

OMG the movie was great, we laughed , cried, was pissed at Big for leaving Carrie at the church..A+++

I wanted to watch it with my sisters in NYC but it didn't happen. When I got back home in Miami I saw it with all of the women in my family, mother, aunt, and cousins!
We loved it!!!
I loved it when carrie said that there are an alloted number of tears for a guy. I am paraphrasing but I loved it. I loved the girl chemistry. They are great together!
I want to buy it when it comes out on DVD or whatever techie device is out there when it does come out.

I loved it! But the weird thing was I saw it THREE times and each time I liked it MORE!! It was perfect. I thought the little horney dog was a bit overdone....but that was it. I will buy it the minute it comes out for sale.

I agree that the movie was a bit lackluster for me as well. The fact that the series was a power-packed thirty minutes of commentary, humor, fashion and sex, begged the one hundred-twenty minute movie to deliver more than Mr. Big "finally" getting his act together (although we never saw the "work") and marrying Carrie. I knew that "Big" would ride in and get his woman, however I have always wanted his elusive persona scrutinized more to render him a man worthy of Carrie's love. I think I got a little wound up about Sex and the City! I loved seeing the girls together again, though!
Aside from the New Year's Eve montage, the movie didn't kill me. I laughed aloud once and shed a tear or two, but the series was much better.

Loved it! I went in expecting to be disappointed because rarely are movies made from TV shows any good. But I was utterly satisfied. The girls looked beautiful and were hilarious. I laughed, I cried...can't wait to see it again!

i would love to love and be loved a woman with that kind of attitude like the stars in the Sex and the City.. But, eventually, the only thing that i like is the sex.. and perhaps the City.. lol
I loved some of the witty lines but i think the plot was all too predictable.
I would've loved a really sneaky twist. :D

I really didn't care for it --I didn't care for the sex scenes--I thought it to be boring with no content--quite frankly I slept through a great deal of it. While on the other hand a friend of mine cried---what a weird combo--me snoozing and her crying------Now that could have been a movie in the making and probably more interesting!!
I loved the movie--, the shoes, the dresses, the funny lines. I enjoyed it sooo much I'm going to see it again!!!!!!!!!!!!!What shocked me how I was laughing and clapping.... then at times very sad especially when Carrie realized she was left at the alter. A girls worst nightmare.
Anyhow---
Yes, some of it is way out there over the top but isn't that why we watch it? Otherwise, it would be boring....................

I enjoyed the movie. I took a day just for me, a little shopping (3 new pairs of shoes) a nice lunch and a good bottle of wine in the evening. It did what I hoped for. Big and Carrie finally married and still in love. I loved the clothes and the storylines for all of the girls. It was a great day.

Liked it a bunch and just enjoyed seeing those four again. My hubby went with me and I had told him he could go to a different movie but he went with me and he enjoyed it as well. He has the theme song from the TV show on his cell phone. Would prefer to see it with a bunch of gal friends so when it comes out to rent I will do that and have them over for drinks and the movie.

I liked the movie. No, I didn't think it was as funny as the show at all, but it did keep my attention the whole time and I just enjoyed watching those characters. I always felt the show should have been at least an hour long; I always felt cheated with a 1/2 hour, so this was just perfect.
I liked it. My husband and I both thought the relationship of the women was portrayed stronger than the men in the movie. In the series, the men seemed to have stronger characters. Some of the things that happened in the movie surprised and saddened me. Both my husband and I thought the series had a better flow than the movie did, but we enjoyed going to see the movie. Many of the theatre goers applauded during various scenes throughout the movie, which made it fun.
I loved it! It goes against my every grain of conservative moral values and yet, I laughed the whole time I wasn't nearly to tears over Big's absence at the wedding. During most of the movie (until the wedding sceen) I wondered if my Big would ever come. I had never seen the movie on HBO, but only on a more filtered-cable network so there were definitely some surprises. I'm with Rachel - I didn't want it to end. (sigh)

I thought the beginning of the movie felt really forced and contrived. I attributed it to the fact that there was a long hiatus, among other things. There were scenes that didn't seem to fit (e.g. Miranda's sex scene seemed more Samanthaesque) but there were those that made me laugh out loud. Not to mention, who wouldn't love that co-op and walk in closet! True to the series, I loved the shoes, seeing the outfits as well as the streets of NYC that I grew to love. It took me back to my years living on the UES, with wine and take out, hanging at my friend's apt. to watch S&TC every Sunday night (because I didn't have cable).

actually i liked it very much
I loved the movie and didn't want it to end. I enjoyed seeing what happened to the characters and enjoyed how the writers cleverly intertwined all their story lines. That said, I was disappointed that many of the characters were not true to who they were in the series. Would Steve really cheat on Miranda when he was so surprisingly committed to her throughout the series? Would Big really leave Carrie at the altar after all they've been through? And would Carrie really not be near suicidal let alone not shed a few tears?t Would Smith really say to Samantha that Valentine's Day was no big deal after spending more than 4 of them with her? It was hard to believe that Smith would let Samantha go without some cross coastal compromise. That was the part that was a dissapointment. Had I not been familiar with these characters already, I would've enjoyed this movie for the good story it was.

Although it was fun to see all the familiar characters, the format works much better as a half hour segment. The pithy dialog and the characters' banter lost something in this extended movie. The outfits were fun to watch, though the make-up was inconsistent, especially on Carrie. However, I went to the movie not so much to be inspired, but to participate in an event of pop culture, thus allowing me to converse freely in dialogs and blogs.
I loved the movie!! I went with some girlfriends, and had no expectations except to see the women on screen again and to see where their lives had taken them. I was pleased with the whole movie. There were a couple of slow parts, but being over 40 myself, it was great to see women of this age+ on the screen. I'll get the DVD when it comes out and watch it again.

This is just another example of people not taking movies for what they are. Indiana Jones is too cheesy, Across the Universe is too musical-y, Sex and The City isn't as good as the series. It's so frustrating to me as a film school graduate to see amazing feats in filmmaking being ridiculed for everything they're not. What about what they are? Indy is George Lucas and Stephen Spielberg reunited. They make effects-filled films with sub-par acting and over the top storylines. Across the Universe's actors express themselves with the lyrics and melodies of one of the most beloved bands of all time, of course the story line was lacking - they were singing the whole time, of course the musical numbers were musical-y, it was an amazing experience, and one which YOU could not have done any better. And as for Sex and the City. We got to see our fab four reunited with an extremely high production value backing it. I ask you to try to take films for what they are, you'll be way less disappointed.

To tell you the truth, I'll wait for it to come out on DVD, then buy it at half price when it hits Columbia House Club. I've been a big fan of Kim Catrell since the early '80s, when I first saw her in the movie "Porky's". Damn, that's a funny movie! Her in the locker room scene, sniffing jock straps and yellin' "Oh yeah! Oh yeah!". I bust a gut just thinkin' about it. Damn, she was hot!

I wouldn't say I hated it, but it was definitely not up to par with the series. But what could they do? They couldn't really change anything about how the series ended, since it was just so perfect, so they had to make us think things were going to change without really changing anything. And it was definitely HIGH on the cheesiness factor. Also, I really wish the Carrie and Big story would have ended with them on the closet floor, no marriage. It was just too much with him getting down and proposing to her...and so not Mr. Big. I did like the Miranda and Steve storyline, though.
