You gotta give it to Kate Winslet. The woman stars in two of the most critically acclaimed movies this season, The Reader and Revolutionary Road, she’s already won a Golden Globe and she’s won an Oscar. She’s is already a winner in my book. I saw her at an event recently honoring, among others, her CAA agent Hylda Queally. She looked classic and elegant in her skin-tight Harve Leger black sheath dress and four-inch, closed toe pumps. Having squeezed myself in a Leger gown I know how hard it is to carry it off, and quite frankly I vowed never to do it again. It makes for a tough seven hour evening with cocktails and dinner and then after parties. The only way to cope seems to be to drink white wine for dinner, which I’ve learned is isn’t the best idea.
But Kate, a voluptuous woman with an hourglass figure reminiscent of the pinup stars of the 50s, carried off the look with incredible style. This woman has hips, thighs, breasts and a derriere and, to me, her look seemed to say “I’m a woman and I’m damn proud of it!” I love that. I asked Kate, at one point, how she keeps her figure, as she has had two children and her stomach was rock solid flat (it was all I could do not to “ping” it to see if she had on some kind of new state of the art girdle device). She replied, “Oh I’m embarrassed to say I don’t work out at all. I’m just so busy, I don’t have the time to make it a priority.” She did say that during the filming of The Reader she was concerned about the way her body would look in the love scenes so she did do Pilates. “I did it by myself. I just popped in a video and made myself do it. I think it’s great as it really seemed to work.” Now, that’s inspiration.
