Born to a family famous for its collection of exquisite vintages that set faces aglow from within, Carlo Mondavi, grandson of Robert Mondavi, is now promoting a permanent external glow. His new skincare line, Davi, includes a luxurious range of skin-perfecting potions that harness the antioxidant properties of Napa-grown grapes. Individual berries are inspected by nine pairs of eyes, following the Mondavi family’s discerning standards of perfection.
The beauty venture is the brainchild of Carlo, a twenty-six-year-old winemaker who came up with the idea while standing knee-deep in a 5,000-gallon barrel of Cabernet Sauvignon grapes in his grandfather’s Reserve cellar. He’s since teamed up with marketing whiz Josh Levine and cosmetics industry guru Joseph Spellman to bring the brand to life in sleek vessels that pay homage to the vineyard. Cool jade and deep burgundy tones—subtly reminiscent of green and red grapes—distinguish the women’s and men’s products.
Also exclusive to Davi is the Meritage antioxidant complex, preserved in microencapsulated shells until the moment it’s applied to the skin. The formula was developed in collaboration with a laboratory based in Lyons, France. At the center of the collection is decadent face cream Le Grand Cru ($175 for a 60 ml pot), which translates as “great growth.” It quenches and protects skin for up to nine hours after it’s applied and offers a decadent combination of shea butter, rosemary, green tea, grape extracts, and Vitamin E that makes skin appear more supple and youthful-looking. Rounding out the Davi skincare collection for women is a gentle Moscato purifying cleanser ($38.50), Harvest mist toner ($38.50) and Vine Fresh SPF 30 lotion ($48.50). The men’s range contains an exfoliating cleanser, toner, sunscreen, shaving and aftershave cream, and Le Grand Cru—all of which promise a Botox-free existence.
We’ll drink to that…
