I have been a Green Day fan since I was two years old. Honestly I can say that and know that it’s true. My mom, thanks to her good taste, had me hooked on the musical drugs by the time I was five. I had my first “Restless Heart Syndrome” (A song title off of Green Day’s new album) when I was sitting in the back of a car and “Good Riddance” (Time of Your Life) came on and I practically screamed for it to be turned up, only to kick my legs around off beat. I fell in love right then with Billie Joe Armstrong’s voice. But back to the present time. What could top “Good Riddance” let alone top American Idiot—their seventh studio album? The answer is in their eighth studio album, 21st Century Breakdown. I may be biased because I am a fan but, that has near nothing to do with it. Even if I hadn’t cut and dyed my hair to match Billie Joe Armstrong’s hair in the past I still would be here telling people about the good music.
Anyway, Green Day—being one of the greatest bands of their time—can’t help but to put out a record that releases some of the best concepts that could be easily applied to any person living in America. Are you thinking about the direction of our future? Are you in love? Are you mentally losing it from time to time? Having a breakdown in general? Just really want to hear some powerful singing, a tight bass, a bitchin’ drummer and add some wayward lyrics to go, you’ve got it in a amazingly decorated CD and CD booklet thingy, whatever those things are called. The two singles off of this new and slightly different album only begin to scratch the surface of what the other sixteen tracks provide for the brain. Though the fans have been waiting and Green Day has been working, it was worth it. Don’t forget to check out the music videos for “Know Your Enemy” and “21 Guns.”
