I am a wife, a career woman, a mother, a sister, a daughter and a friend. So much has been written about the busy lives of women and the complicated roles we perform for loved ones each and every day. Just let me say it here: HURRAY FOR WOMEN!!! I am a great admirer of my own gender. Does that make me biased?? Not that I don’t admire men. I love my husband and sons ... they are funny, strong, dependable and ... well, quiet!! I love women who laugh out-loud, full belly-laughs that can be heard all the way down the hall. I love how women relieve stress by shamelessly indulging in humor that is irreverent, even bawdy. It is our little secret how outrageous we can be.
There are so many articles out today about the modern woman and her difficulties juggling the needs of her loved ones while trying to remember not to short-change herself. Today’s woman is portrayed as over-whelmed, stressed-out and just not able to cope. I’m not buying it. Most women I see are strong, assertive, hilarious, and very competent. On top of that ... we really do know how to love friends and family with an openness that our male counterparts envy (if they were willing to admit it.) We know how to “lighten up.”
I celebrate today the women in my life who have influenced me to be wilder, sillier, naughtier, and more ME than ever: my grandmother and her wild and crazy sisters, my best friend since junior high school, my nurse and RT co-workers, and my mother and sisters. HURRAY FOR WOMEN!!
