Confused

I get car service from work and have had the same driver for almost two years now. I’m not supposed to have a regular driver but somehow that is how it’s worked out. In the beginning we talked a great deal on the ride home and got along really well and realized we had a great deal in common. Hence, we became friends and have been in social settings together due to business (a business that neither one of us is involved with anymore). I know we were attracted to each other in the beginning.

Over the past year and a half, he has become withdrawn. He doesn’t speak to me except an occasional hello, doesn’t look at me when I get in the car at night. Doesn’t look at me when I get out either. But he continues to pick me up and goes as far as arranging for other drivers to pick me up from work when he is not available. He is very choosey about who he allows to drive me. Whenever we’ve been together at an event and he has to speak with me, he always has his hands in his pockets (which I don’t understand). It’s upsetting for me. I am a very social person and enjoy making new friends all the time. He is on vacation for the next five weeks, left, didn’t tell me, and arranged for someone to pick me up.

It’s very frustrating for me because we had a nice relationship and I consider him a friend. Why is he acting so weird? My girlfriends tell me that he’s attracted to me and that maybe I scare him. They tell me to enjoy it and move on. By the way, I am married and he is twenty years my junior.

I don’t want to scare him. I just want my normal friend back.

I liked this story very much. I think people forget or think it's impossible to be friends with the opposite sex. The important think is to not muddle the relationship by engaging is conversations that border on flirting or that can be misinterpreted as a come on.
It feels good to write.
