My Platonic Friend

When I am feeling lonely, he is there.
Shoulders to cry on, we lean on each other.
Conversations rack up in the hours,
He is always there just to talk.
His company is my social life.

He is my friend.
My platonic friend.
Nothing more. Nothing less.

I have known him for years,
He has known me for years,
Another year, a closer year,
We know each other more.
The tears, the fears, the loves, the laughs.

He is my friend.
My platonic friend.
Nothing more. Nothing less.

So much we have in common,
Hard to believe a man and a woman
Can have this relationship without more.
It has been accused, assumed and suspected
But he is not my other, he is not my lover.

He is my friend.
My platonic friend.
Nothing more. Nothing less.
