Here Come the Superheroes

You may be rushing between classes on campus, jetting off to a corporate meeting, or just trying to make it home for dinner before you catch hell for being late. Time is pressing on us from all directions, and multitasking is not only common, it’s a necessity for modern day survival!

But this is the time we live in and there’s not too much we can do about it—besides, to some extent, we love it! We love it like we love high action video games—that full throttle adrenaline rush we get from playing our kid’s X-Box Gears of War game. But too much adrenalin, too many demands on our time, too much rushing around—takes is toll on us; physically, mentally and emotionally.

Sorry, but it looks like next year will be even more “crazed” than this year. I personally will have more demands on my time than at any time in my life. So right now is a fantastic opportunity to re-circle the wagons and bring together your personal support group. This is your own gang of Superheroes, if you will. Don’t currently have a personal support group? Well I highly recommend you get one. You’ll want to ensure that these are people that you trust and know that they have your best interest at heart. And you’ll want to mix it up some by including people that give you 360 degree support.

From those that give you the loving and nurturing support you need at times, to those that won’t buy your BS and will give you a swift kick in the ass to get back in the game. Also those that will intellectually give you the strategy you need and those that will give you nothing of value except will make you laugh so hard your stomach hurts. The point is, that no one person can really offer you everything you need when facing the myriad of challenges that 2008 is getting ready to throw at you. Your gang of superheroes can be three people or ten people, it does not matter, just make sure that you are covered from all directions.

Here are a few I’ve chosen for my own gang of superheroes lined up for 2008:

My sister, Laura. An actual life coach by profession in Boulder Colorado. She is the absolute best person on the planet to evaluate a situation or problem and give an uncanny perspective on how to deal with whatever the problem is. She’ll kick me in the ass to get me moving too—she is my # 1 go to personal superhero. She is also my favorite person for comic relief—she can make any situation funny, and has done so … two other people are my loving and nurturing superheroes—my wife, Kim and my mother. Both are ALWAYS there for me and give un-judging, unconditional support. If you don’t have this kind of support in your life, do everything you can to acquire it. I have several others, including James, my son Danny, and my friend Liz—all of who are there for me at the drop of a dime.

So, go ahead and pull together three, four, or even ten of your best and must trusted compadres, and build your personal gang of superheroes—the people that will support you to be your best in 2008. The demands of your job, school, family pressures, you name it, will undoubtedly still be there next year, but when you no longer need to face these things alone, tomorrow actually seems quite a bit brighter, don’t you think?

Thank you Mark. You sister sounds like an amazing lady. It's wonderful to hear a man that appreciates his family and friends so much.
