Parents who continually love and nurture a child or children into intelligent, productive, citizens who contribute to society in a positive way deserve a big thank you. Whether giving birth, adopting a child, becoming a foster parent, or willingly parenting a niece, nephew, or the children in your neighborhood; the need for attentive, loving, thoughtful parents in the home is great. I believe it’s both an honor and a sacrifice to be a parent. Thank God for parents willing to take the sacrifice.
Mother hunger hit me like a ton of bricks when I hit my mid-thirties. I just could not wait any longer. With God’s blessings, I got pregnant two months after getting off the pill, and to my surprise I learned I was carrying twin girls when I was three months pregnant. My husband and I certainly had to make our adjustments, but we soon grew accustomed to taking care of twins. We both take our roles as parents seriously. From the day we brought them home, we could see their little eyes watching our every move. Our children want our approval and seem starving for our hugs, kisses, and guidance. Clearly love strengthens the bond between parent and child.
My mother was and still is a loving motherly type, so we did whatever she wanted whenever she asked. My brothers and I were latchkey kids and when she told us to go home, lock the door, and don’t go outside until Daddy was home; we did exactly as she said. I believe words uttered with unconditional love tend to have a deeper impact than words said to create fear of embarrassment.
When my children were newborns I’d watch them sleep and could not understand how anybody could harm a child. My heart goes out to all the children of the world who don’t experience the love of a parent and the warmth of their embrace. My heart goes out to all children who lack role models and have to deal with parents unwilling to be parents who give the guidance needed for their children to grow into productive, healthy adults. I pray God holds them all in his hands.
