I arrived at church one morning and, as usual, my mother started pushing for early finalization of my bride, which is normal in any Indian family.
She suggested that I read about the great Indian marriages at www.indiavision.com/wedding.html in my free time.
She said that she is in touch with a Southern Indian family that has a beautiful daughter, Radhika. I tried to avoid the subject as usual, but my mother was adamant and didn’t want me to miss out on a dinner at their home. I have to accept because my mother insists.
As I was tired and had to go to dinner, I decided to go home for lunch and take a two-hour nap. I came for lunch in the early afternoon and my mother had prepared aloo parathas in her typical Punjabi way. While eating I tried to persuade my mother, saying that we are North Indian Punjabi, whereas Radhika was South Indian. How can we match the cultural and eating bandwagon?
My mother said that all those issues are immaterial, and once I finalize my bride she will answer all those questions. After lunch, I went and took a nap. I had a dream in which I was watching couple roam around; when I got close, I saw Bonnie Kapoor and Sridevi, a well-known actor from south India. After chatting for a little while, I asked him if he is comfortable with a south Indian wife, and he told me that he is more than ever and that it is even a trend to marry a south Indian girl. He told me that Chetan Bhagat has a south Indian wife.
After a while, I woke up, and rushed to my office as I had some important tasks that I had to tend to. Then I went to dinner with my mother at the Swamy family’s home. And I believe that with Radhika, it was love at first sight.
We got married that very summer and we are enjoying being happily married with Chola, Lassi, and Iedli Wada.
