Mighty Mutts and Clever Cats: Amazing Pet Tricks

If there’s one thing I love, it’s watching animals do funny tricks. (Actually, the one thing I love best would probably be ice cream, but pet tricks are definitely a close second.)

Luckily, we live in an amazing technological era when anyone can take a video of her pet’s most brilliant tricks and put it out there on the Internet for all the world to see. You can spend a whole day just watching videos of adorable pets halfway around the world. (At least, that’s what I just did.) Although there are thousands of talented and entertaining fur babies out there, these are really the cream of the canine and feline crop.

A Balanced Diet

We tell our children not to play with their food, but pets live by different rules. Not only do we encourage them to play, but we also demand that they do tricks with their meals. How humiliating. It’s a good dog whose desire to please his owner outweighs his desire for dinner.

Kitty See, Kitty Do

Any cat owner knows that felines do not mess around. This one may have been influenced by seeing images of violence on television, and now he’s ready to rumble. Hey, Spot—don’t say you weren’t warned.

Tricks for Treats

Anthropologists say that the use of tools is one characteristic that the smartest animals in the world all share. This hungry lil’ guy proves that a dog in search of food is capable of truly great things.

A Bird “Fore” All Seasons

If you’re looking for a pet that will amaze you with its capacity to learn tricks, think outside the doghouse. Birds may not want to cuddle with you at night, but they can still play dead, roll over, and even play golf better than most humans.

These videos are incredible! I, like many of these other commenters, loved Nora the best. She's so pensive, so moody, so gifted.

Wow, Nora the pianist just blew my mind. I feel like if that cat put her mind to it, she could go places with her new career. Also, is it weird that the pug looks so natural pushing a stroller?

That cat playing the piano was amazing. It was like he/she was really listening to the sounds, and trying to make music. Very impressive. The only trick my basset hound could do was catch a tennis ball in his mouth, and that was only if you lobbed it at him from about 2 feet away.

We used to balance a Milk Bone on my old roommate's dog's nose and I thought it was cruel, but Vicki, I see your point. I personally cannot imagine being starving and having someone tell me to balance my food on my nose/head before I ate it, but maybe I'm just a pig.
These animals are more useful than some humans I know.
