Perhaps because pets tend to mimic their owners (and possibly because of the popularity of a certain lasagna-loving cartoon cat), some of our feline friends have started tipping the scales as much as their owners. About 25 percent of cats are considered overweight—a smaller number than overweight people in the U.S., but alarming nonetheless.

If full-figured felines really want to shed pounds, they have to exercise. Unfortunately, gentle stretching and attempted naps on the treadmill don’t quite count.

Crash dieting only makes plump cats eat everything in the kitchen later. It’s hard to tell, but believe me, this guy’s feeling mighty ashamed of himself.
