Domesticated: Wild Animals Trapped In Suburbia

Photographer Amy Stein set out to capture our paradoxical relationship with the "wild" in her series Domesticated. Expertly crafting each photograph based on real news reports and oral history, her photos serve as dioramas of our new natural history.

The photographs were shot in and around Matamoras, Pennsylvania. It’s a small town that borders a state forest. According to Amy, the location serves as a backdrop to the artificial barriers we construct between us and the natural world.

It is a coyote not a wolf, and Matamoras Pa where these pictures where taken is where i grew up. I can personally tell you that these are most likely in no way fake. The area has always gotten visits from our wild neighbors. Small black bears are seen as mostly harmless in the area, when you grow up with them, possums, and raccoons rifling through your garbage every night you get used to being able to just open a window and telling them to bug off. It is nice to see that the bobcats and others are still in the area despite it being built up more and more to accommodate the people moving in from the city.

I'm hoping that she's attempting to show the unfortunate effects of humanity on wild animals... how our industrialization has taken away their natural habitats, how they are now being forced to adapt to our ways of life, and the destrcution we've caused. And while I get that, and I appreciate her sentiment, most, if not all, of these pictures were photoshopped, and aren't what I would consider good photography. You want beautiful pictures of real animals? Check out a National Geographic.

Bigtime, you're full of something and it's certainly not perfume. I think those are some amazing pictures of wildlife intruding upon civilization, or is it civilization intruding upon wildlife?

I reallly believe these photos are a mockery of the United States, and I think the photographer meant them to be - I believe she gave some thought to creativity, however, just not enough. While these issues do exist in the U.S.A (Obesity and waste: The poor birds eating the thrown out McDonalds with the American flag in the background - Freedom?: the hunter trapped in a cage while he shoots at the "free" bird) the images are quite contrived and obvious and are only meant to cause controversy. Afer all, an artist does need to make a living... and what better way to make your name, or some cash, at the expense of defaming the most caring and giving nation to ever exist in the world. I hurt for this nation. I wish it can go back to the true meaning of its roots - sans the slavery and hate, and come out victorious, so that artist like this can remember and revive the greatness, and the splendor that we all still have in our hearts.

Wow, is that wolf actually howling at a street lamp in place of the moon? Amazing. Sandy www.total-anonymity.cz.tc
