The Downfall of Man (Part 2)

Ok, brace yourselves. I’m going to use the dreaded “C” word. But this time it’s not aimed towards the ladies. It’s pointed right at the men. What I’m talking about is Chivalry, or the lack thereof.

Call me crazy but what’s up with this generation of new young adult men? Time after time I see them not opening car doors, lighting cigarettes, pulling out the woman’s chair for her to sit down, standing when she leaves or comes back to the table, etc, etc. Such a shame.

What is it in this day and age that men no longer desire to treat a woman like a “woman”? A few things come to mind and I’d really like to hear your opinions as well. Here are mine:

1. The Gloria Steinems of the world have men confused in what you want us to do for you anymore. I’ve actually seen and heard some women say, “I can do it myself”. Mixed signals for sure.

2. With the rampant increase in divorces, single mothers are left to raise their sons all alone without any father figure to teach them all the intricacies of the feminine psyche and basic respect for others.

3. It’s a “what can you do for me” attitude in our kids and young adults. Selfishness has risen to new heights.

I was brought up to believe that women deserve to be treated a certain way and accorded these luxuries just by the mere fact that they are women, give birth to our children, and are the most beautiful/fascinating creatures on earth.

I, for one, will never stop treating a lady like a lady. I only hope that I can lead by example and that we can one day be proud once again to use the “C” word when we talk about the men in our lives.
