The True Cost of a Wedding
With all the hype surrounding the royal wedding, it's a good time to take a look at our own American weddings and how their costs break down. Coming in at just under $27,000, the average American wedding may seem like a monumental expense, but compared to the $48 million about to be spent this weekend in London, I'd say our excesses are a little less ridiculous.

I'm sure that 27 thousand figure is alienating for a lot of people. I wonder how average these weddings really are. The couple that gets hitched at city hall or has a small celebration is unlikely to participate in a wedding survey. There are probably a lot of couples not accounted for in those figures! I have two companies in the Canadian Rockies that provide wedding services. DJ and Video. I would say that DJ cost is about right( I charge $1100) Video cost is low and for a good video of your day a minima should be the same as a photographer. My 10 hr package covering he whole day from prep to first dance with one camera is $2500. I always say if you had one thing to show your kids would it be a photo of your wedding or a video?

Reception DJ = $900??? Which city areas "overpay" that much for wedding DJs, for I want to relocate there :-). My DJ firm, Top New Orleans DJ, has been in business for 9 years, performing for well over 1000 weddings to date. Our advertised price for 4 hours of actual DJ playing time is $380, and we allow clients to choose their own play list.
