Why is it?
that now that
I will be sixty
I love you more and more
Than when I was twenty
I loved you
but I loved so many more things
This beautiful world
The sights
The beauty
And then I was thirty
I loved you
But I loved our children
Their smiles
Their winsome ways
Their sicknesses
All claimed me.
And than I was forty
It just flew by
Teaching the kids
Their assignments
their picnics.
Than I was fifty
Time to build our home
The social circle
The friends
My children’s spouses
to adore and admire
And now that I will be sixty
I just want you
The peace and quiet we share
The old jokes
we share.
I love you
with a fervor
I knew not before.
