What if you had to choose between two elements that are part of your life? According to a survey released by Intel Corporation, around half of women eighteen and older would rather go without sex for two weeks than without access to the Internet. Are they crazy or right on? I know it's true for my wife, for that matter any reason is a great reason not to have sex.
Difficult to choose. They both offer things we have come to need and expect in life.

It would be harder for me to give up the internet because that is my connection to the one I care for. I live alone and enjoy my relationship with my friend online. So it would not be a problem to go without sex.
This is a good question! I would find it difficult to choose one or the other. But I've heard that some people intermingle the two ;)

Tough question in reality. I do so much using the internet; bill paying, kids schedules, school and research, it would be difficult to do much efficiently without it. On the other hand, I couldn't give up sex for even a few days without some real suffering. Since no one want a growling animal in the house for two weeks, internet it is.
As addicted I am to both the internet and sex, it would be much harder for me to give up sex for TWO WEEKS this would be torture. Even though I can have virtual sex, nothing beets the realness of having ones lover touch, kiss, slap or nibble on the right spots. It is very hard to do all those caramel things to yourself with one hand on the keypad wile the other is struggling to get me off, to put simply. And there is nothing better then being able to explode on or with someone, life is much more fun that way.
Considering I work online, and I live far away from my family, I would have to say internet over sex. Yes sex is wonderful, but for 2 weeks....I would miss work, I would miss chats with my mom on skype....with her being able to see my twins, and with my bf being in school, and working we will go a week at a time without. Besides after a small sabbatical, sex could be even more explosive.

Ya know...I'm an 18 year old female & for me it's really a tough decision. I'm very involved w/ a man who's 5 years my elder and also has a sex drive which isn't anywhere near mine! There's often periods of time where he doesn't WANT to have sex for 2 weeks at a time! Plus, I spend massive amounts of time on the net daily. So as long as I could still have him next to me nightly & near me daily..I would pick the internet over sex for two weeks anyday!!!

I would give up the internet, for sex any time, place, you name it. SEX is a great stress reliever. If it were not for sex I probably would have went insane by now. Sex is awesome and nothing is better!!!!!

Wow. I would drop the internet like a hot potato! I think about sex constantly, and although I LOVE going online, I enjoy reading a good old-fashioned newspaper or walking to my friend's house just as much. SO, no question, SEX!!!! I am fortunate to have a loving, attentive, husband whose sex drive is probably half of what mine is. But he makes an effort to keep up with me!

Hmmm well I have personally been without both before and for a lot longer and I find that going with out that physical connection is harder then going with out checking my emails and playing online. Sex wins hands down in my eyes. I couldn't imagine trading physical for a false sense of it. That is the only reason we get on half the time is to feel connected. So why not choice sex or internet?

I have to agree with Denny. After a long days work, you just want to sit and relax your brain and muscles namely your brain. Sex is not something you just get into like putting on your pants. Hmmm, that's a toughy! Just kidding. I've gone longer (much longer) than two weeks without sex; but two weeks without the Internet? Perish the thought! I thrive on information. I need to have answers to questions when I want them. I'm spoiled that way.
Speaking in-the-moment, and probably for the past year, I would rather go two weeks without internet than sex. I have never felt the way that I do and I don't think that it's just because I haven't had sex in awhile, but it's because of the connections you feel, when you're with someone that you care about.

As embarrassing as it is...I admit that my husband and I sit in bed with our two laptops until 1:30-2:00 am every night. We google songs, old commercials, childhood memories and giggle about it. We have so much fun, yet I know that it isn't conducive to sex. To be fair, he is using a lot of the time as a chance to getting in some work. He is the boss, so he works 24/7.

It's funny that I stumbled upon this chit chat because this was a HUGE issue in my recent relationship. I had been involved with a man that was 19 years my senior. He had a great sexual appetite, as do I being in my early,early 30's. However, he enjoyed watching porn videos, porn internet sites, and magazines way WAY too much for me. I was ok with some, it can be a turn on. internet masturbation as sex is an ok substitution for real sex for 2 weeks. Any more than that and it would be a tough choice. I wonder how many times the "average" couple actually has sex anyway. When I was married it was more like once a week, so missing two trysts wouldn't kill me. I had better orgasms on my own anyway! Without the internet I could focus on getting work done: writing, reading, getting my hw done (I'm in college) and when my work was done I could spend my entire night doing it. I know it may sound strange but I rather give up sex. Yes I know a 18year old give up sex. I am currently engaged to the love of my life. The one who I actually truely care about the catch is he lives in South Carolina and im in Connecticut. We met by chance when my world was falling apart and been together ever since. We spent the first months together but now we are working on are careers. So that means the sex will have to wait. I have gone almost a year without sex but over time it becomes normal. The internet plays a huge role in keeping our realationship strong. I allow his freedom and he allows me mine. So the internet is the savior that keeps distant couples together if both parties understand.Plus webcams can be a huge help to feel like your there together.

I got my first new computer. It was the showroom floor model. When I got home with it and plugged it into the internet the first thing I did was type in Yahoo! The drop box came down and the next word on the list was "porn". I didn't get the thing to look at sex and was pissed that the store sold me something somebody else had been using to look at porn on. My wife lost her libido due to a stroke. That was 7 years ago. I have been using the internet ever since. For me affection, caring, appreciation and touching are more important than physical sex. You don't think so until you don't have those either! Then, after a few years you find you can get what you want thru the internet, but you can't always get what you want from sex. So i would find it easy these days to give up sex but the internet has to stay! James Smith....If your wife is ready to dump you over this than you have more problems in your relationship than a couple of conversations. Then if she listens to a support group that is counseling her to end her marriage, then she is pretty gullible and immature. I would predict that she will get over this if you give her a plausible explanation and she can feel the sincerity....perhaps in time, at least. A while back I got busted looking at porn on the internet by my girlfriend who got upset and we didn't have sex for about a week and a half. I also didn't mess with the computer because she would suspect me of looking at smut and nothing else. To answer your question I would choose sex nine out of nine times! There are no consequences for my giving up sex for 2 weeks, except my own internal ones. Sex was accessible yesterday and it will be again in 2 weeks, maybe even better than ever without it for that long! But the internet is my doorway to the business world, I work out of the home so the internet is vital for me to communicate with my co-workers and keep the flow of our work and output on schedule and without it would affect a lot of people I interact with. hmmm decisions , decisions- I think I would give up the internet for two weeks before I would give up sex. I've been married for 26 years, sex seems to be even more important now than in the earlier years.
I've been married for 40 years and we've been working/traveling/apart for 2 weeks on many occasions, so I could live without sex for another 2 weeks. (Besides, you can always find some form of sex on the internet if necessary, but you can't find news, view, fashion, humor, banking, etc. in bed.)

Having recently been without the internet for longer than 2 weeks, I'll have to say I'll forgo the sex for 2 weeks anytime. While my internet was off and with nothing much on tv-well let's just say the sex got old after a few days. Now before all you young thangs start gasping and shaking your heads-I'm a Grandma and I prefer not to be so available to Grandpa these days-it might not be good for his ticker.
I'm afraid it would have to be sex. Even on vacation, I have to be online.
Well since I've just come into the 80's (i've only owned a PC for about 6 yrs) I don't think losing the internet would be that devistating to life... and the SEX is not as frequent as it has been, or ever was. But, I think losing the internet would be the choice...and, I hate to say, that it would be noticebly missed more than the other. not an easy choice.

It's a no brainer for me. My husband and I both have chronic pain and sex has been out of our life for over 3 years. I would be lost without the internet. I love keeping up with friends by e-mail, and it is so easy to do my shopping and banking on-line. I shop so much on-line that I have my credit card number totally memorized. E-mail is like having a telephone conversation - only better. You don't have to hold the phone in the crook of your neck, and you don't have to be available to talk at the same time as the person you are communicating with. I am going on 59 years old, and I fought onset of word processing over typewriters, then I fought the onset of computers over word processors. What a revelation when I quit fighting technology. Give me the internet any day.

Honestly, and I do mean totally honest, I could give up sex for the rest of my life. I love the internet for nothing more than keeping in touch with my friends and family, reading the news, looking up needed info and for playing games. I would not have a problem with giving up the sex. I have been single for 8 1/2 years and the two dates that have been on in those years left something hugely to be desired, so yes I would choose the internet. I have reliable internet connection-3.0. I don't have a reliable sex partner. With the internet, I can look for a good sex mate, maybe even find one.... I can have e-mail sex over the internet. I have even had an intensed, love affair over the internet. If I had a man, I couldn't do all that. I would not bring the laptop to bed with me if I had a sex partner there with me. I would leave it in the diningroom and go to it after my sex partner and I have had really satisfying sex. There's no real comparison! The internet and a sex partner satisfy opposite ends.

Hands down, I would give up SEX! My husband and I have had a marriage long disagreement as to what an adequate amount of sex would be, and it is a battle he continues to win for 17 years now! I read an article the other day that said the average couple has sex approximately 59 times a year, which averaged out to a little more than once a week. Let me be the first to proclaim, we are seriously below average. I often tell my husband he would not make it as a cave man, indian or Catholic because the rhythm method SICKS HIM OUT! Not that we would have a bunch of children running around anyway since we average about 7 times a YEAR! So, since I spend more of my time online, it is a more lasting experience and is much more regular, I would definitely say I would give up SEX. Of course, the question isn't really fair for me to answer since I am nearly a NUN anyway......
Time with my partner always takes precedence to the internet. We are both very busy and cherish the intimate time we share. The internet is a marvelous invention that keeps us in touch with the world, but if the internet vanished tomorrow, I would simply return to the old way of communicating and I believe that required person to person contact! For two weeks, I would gladly give up sex, and thus choose the internet. The internet is a fantastic way to find out new information including sexual information that could heighten my performance and knowledge post the two weeks. While sex can usually includes another person (is solo sex part of sex in this case) the internet is something that I can have access to alone and without distraction or tension.

I pay my bills online including power and cable, I run an online business, I put money in my daughters lunch account, I email friends and family, I get my pictures developed, I check the weather, and right now my husband is taking a real estate course on the internet! Having a baby (via a difficult birth) basically forced me to live the past few months choosing the internet over sex! Hoping (as is my husband) to soon have room for both now that I'm healed and the baby sleeps through the night...

It sounds so superficial to want to choose internet over sex, because of the "implications" it can have on a relationship. However if it's only for two weeks, I would gladly give up the act of sex to be able to research ways to spend more quality time with my family by using the internet. I don't think that you have to give anything up for another. You just have to choose moderation in whatever means you can. For a chance at a laptop though, I could curb my desires for a short amount of time. My husband might feel different, but if I told him we could win a new laptop, he might be inclined to "refrain" from intercourse as well. Especially since his laptop is non functional right now because the screen is broken!

In some ways it would seem more difficult to give up the internet since I use it 2 - 6 hours everyday, more often I would probably miss it. BUT it in no way does the internet add to my sense of well being, inner peace, confidence, and most importantly a connection with my partner. So my vote is out with the computer, in with ORGASM!
I have had to give up sex up to 6 months at a time when my husband was deployed while in the Navy. Sex also deminished significantly when I was undergoing treatment for cancer, and when my husband was recovering from a bad motorcycle accident. So, I can LIVE without sex. But, addicted as I am to the internet (and I am), CHOOSE internet over sex? Not a chance! (And no, my husband is not making me write that!) We've been married almost 30 years. I want to make it another 30!

Two weeks without sex has happened before...but since the internet is a constant (laptop, at work, on iphone) I don't think I could make it two weeks.
My option would be to go without the internet if I had to choose. I love staying connected to family and friends, but the physical touch gives more pleasure than the internet. There have been times when I wish my husband would give up the internet and come to bed so we could have sex...we have a very loving relationship, but I could use a little more attention. We have 2 small children and it's hard enough to find the time without him staying up half the night playing on the computer instead of coming to bed. I think I'm the unusual one...LOL!
As a writer I love my laptop and enjoy going on the internet checking in with friends and emails. Sex I enjoy too, but have gone periods without it and managed to survive without severe withdrawel pains. Hard one but I am 71 and been without sex several periods of time over these years. It would be the internet as we live in AL and my family and friends are elsewhere. This is how I keep in touch with 99 percent of them. It is my lifeline.
Giving up the internet would be harder for me. I lost my son last year and I receive so much support from other grieving parents online. I would not give that up for sex, they are a lifeline to me.

What an interesting question. I have been in the position of giving up sex for years at a time due to my husband's cancer treatment. It was difficult, and the marriage almost didn't survive. My point is that you get used to doing without almost anything if you have to. Still I enjoy being on the internet and think it would be hard to do without it now. It is just to important to our lives today with online bill paying, comparison shopping, getting directions and all the fun things it has to offer. My vote is for the internet.

During the time he's been away, I've filled my time with being the mom of two, working full time and when my kids are finally asleep for the night exploring the net. On the other hand, being on the internet is my job as a blogger and involved in SEO/SMO. Not being online for two weeks means no income and unless I win a very nice paid vacation, impossible.

Since I am currently HAPPILY Single, I have to admit to giving up the sex in favor of a more stimulating relationship with my computer and the world online. Even in my more "desireous stage of youth" when sex should have been as important as air, I am positive that I would still have given up the sex for two weeks rather than the internet - point being - absense makes the loins grow - fonder.......After two weeks of no nookie the bed would have caught on fire.
I can do without sex, but not without the Internet because it's my little window to the world.
I feel like the whimpering bear from the old Donald Duck cartoons. I don't know which to choose. Sex is awesome, but my job revolves around the internet. So for me it's no sex or no money, but with no money it's hard to attract a partner. If it weren't for the whole money thing, I'd say the internet, but I guess I'll have to say the sex because I have to.

Since an available partner is not in site, and I frequently browse the internet. The obvious answer would be internet.
I can't believe that it is only around 50%-I would easily give up sex! Although very enjoyable, it is definitely not something that I "need".

That's an easy choice for me, I could definitely give up sex for 2 weeks since I haven't had it in how long anyways!!!!!! LOL!!!! No mate in a couple of years but no internet, I would have an OMG panic attack.

Easy............give up sex. It's been 8 months already. But if the internet goes down I'm on the phone with the cable company in seconds. I spend 80% of my day on the computer (I'm disabled). Only 10% of my day is spent with my husband.

I, in my mid fifties, have reached a point in my life where sex is still very important but two weeks is not a famine. As I am now a stay-at-home housewife, cook, gardener, bookkeeper, etc. the internet has also become important. It has become a connection to the family that lives away and the friends that I don't get to see as often as I would like. It has become a method of shopping where in I don't have to get dressed and go out to buy. It has become my authority on medical symptoms, questions and answers of whatever I wish to know from the news to who wrote a certain book to questions about my ancestors. Two weeks - yes, I could do without either sex or the internet for two weeks if necessary but I'll give up the sex for two weeks first.

Sex, by far. Even though we have 2 young children and I'm sure we have missed sex for stretches in the past, never longer than 2 weeks though. I would be cranky as hell. The internet is something I use daily, but sex, I would be a real crabby woman without that for that long!!

Hmm, that's not easy either way. I've just begun a new dating relationship, and we're a little over an hour away. I'm on limited cell minutes, so until the clock hits the magic hour, we correspond through IM and texting.
I'll say, with the condition of keeping my cellphone w/texting, I'd give up the internet before I give up sex, because our sex is FABULOUS!

I think the minute you told me I couldn't have sex for two weeks would be the time I would really want to. but I have easily gone two weeks without before. lack of internet would be hard at first, but I think I'd get used to it. I'd love to hear my husband's answer, he's glued to that box more than I am.

Hands down: I would have a MUCH harder time giving up the internet- i have four blogs for crying out loud. I would go nuts! The anticipation of two sex free weeks would make it funner when we were having sex again and that would so not be how I would feel without the internet. In fact, I would be in such a bad mood the hubby probably wouldn't get any anyway LOL
Definitely sex! My husband is deployed a lot, so I've learned to do without sex....but the Internet is the one way we can stay in touch.
I have tried to go without both...I must admit going without the internet for two weeks is definitely much harder! So much of my life has been streamlined using the internet, connectivity, online accounts. I use it as a means to pay bills, stay in touch with family, shop, handle business, communicate with clients, educate myself, stay informed, understand global issues, get test results, reminders on birthdays, vet visits....the only thing I don't do online is have sex....ha!

Well, although I love to surf the internet, I don't think I'll give up sex for 2 weeks. Why? Simple. Sex is not just sex for me and my husband. It is also our way of reminding each other that after all the trials we've been through, we love each other that much. Yes, we are too busy with office and house works but we make it a point that we have the time to be together and make each other feel loved. Yes, hugs and kisses will do or even saying "I love you" but being married, having sex is part of it. To some it may be just sex, just to fill the hunger for it, but for us it is something that we treasure. A gift for each one. And we hope to stay this way till we grow old.

I definitely would choose going 2 weeks without sex. I use the internet daily, sometime multiple times a day for communication, leisure, and in many household ways like coupon searching and such. I love my fiancee with all my heart but between our 18month old son and different schedules going without sex is something that occurs anyways.

I know that I can go without sex for two weeks instead of internet. My fiance and I got into it today, because he is upset I have not been wanting sex. I try to explain that it is just stress. I just get so tired and he works at night and I work during the day. I have to use the internet daily working, so I know I cannot go with out the internet.

I'd like to sound as mature as Julie S. but I'm afraid that's not exactly why. I can just go without sex for extended periods of time and I don't feel like I'm missing anything (though this is not true of my husband). We've been married 6 years and I can see that this is something I will need to work at balancing more in my life. As a freelancer writer and blogger the internet is a vital part of my life/career. He works with a computer company and so we both use the internet quite a bit but sometimes it is overkill. Even when we're on vacation we take our laptops with us and he even had a faster internet connection put into his parents house in Brazil so that when we visit we won't be without our high speed access. It does sound a bit ridiculous right? It would certainly be an interesting experiment to see how our lives would change if we didn't have the internet (maybe I would read more, we'd have more sex...it's probably something everyone should do every once in awhile).
After 28 1/2 years of marriage, I could manage without sex for two weeks. Sex is important, but our marriage is based on love, friendship, and mutual interests. Good sex is about quality not, necessarily, quantity. The internet is my lifeline in contacting family and friends. It's also my news sorce and hobby. I really miss it when it goes down, and on my annual one-week camping trip.

It would definitely be harder to give up the internet, because so many of my needs are met there--social, shopping, information, where as sex only meets one need, which could wait a couple of weeks if necessary.

Easy as pie...I'd go without sex no problem! See, I've been separated for 14 years, divorced for 13 so celebate for 14 years. I cry when I lose my internet connection. There's a joke that floats around out there about all my friends being in my computer...well, many of mine are. I have to live with chronic pain and many people run don't walk away from you when you have to say no to lunch or other commitments. So suddenly you find your friends are those who are like you, living in pain, up at all hours of the day and night, and their friends are inside the little box on your desk. Sex or the internet. Well, since even a hug hurts like holy he!!...I'll keep my internet and let you other ladies have the sex back after the two weeks.

I think that if I gave up sex for two weeks, I would suddenly only have my Internet because my husband would be pretty ticked off. And as life without sex is no fun... My choice would be to live without the Internet for a couple of weeks.
