Scientists have discovered how to make men more like women, you know, compassionate, sensitive, understanding, the list goes on ...
According to Britain’s Daily Mail, a new study shows that with just one or two puffs of a hormone nasal spray, containing oxytocin, men become more affectionate and in tune with other peoples’ feelings. Is this a miracle we ask?
The study involved forty-eight men viewing heart-wrenching photographs and being asked to describe the empathy they felt with the subjects. The non-placebo group showed significantly higher levels of empathy and the study has been hailed as the first to show beyond a doubt that the much studied oxytocin hormone really does work in bringing out a man’s softer side.
“For many women, you could say it would almost be a godsend to make a man more empathetic,” said Dr. Kendrick, of the Babraham Institute in Cambridge, who conducted the study. Although, he adds, “On the other hand, I am not sure they are used to having men that empathetic.”
Whatever the future may be in the battle of the sexes, the findings also offer hope to those suffering from autism, schizophrenia, and other conditions, which are characterized by difficulty in reading emotions.
Now that’s something worth celebrating.
