Porn Is Good for Relationships

With titles like When Harry Ate Sally, ET: The Extra Testicle, and The Bare Bitch Project, it’s no wonder porn has a bad wrap. But, not all porn is of the absurd nature. In fact, porn’s intimidating nature is disintegrating and actually more and more women are seeking it out—to invigorate their sex lives.

According to Nielsen/Net ratings in 2007, about one in every three adult Web site visitors was female. During this same time, approximately 13 million American women were looking at porn online every month.

I equate it to cooking; hell I equate most things to cooking. You gotta try a new recipe every once in awhile - even if it’s daunting - or things get a little, um, stale. Last weekend I went to a BBQ and was asked to bring a dish. I had a recipe stashed away that I’d been dying to try for over a year, but hadn’t because I thought only Julia Child could pull it off. I decided to suck it up (a glass of wine that is) and dove in. My dish got rave reviews and my friends harassed me for the recipe. Of course I gave it to them (with a few minor alterations). Had I not tried a little something different, I would have brought the same ole boring thing to the party, and my friends would have faked their excitement. Yay.

Nothing need be faked with porn. Well, in the physiological department that is. A 2006 study performed at McGill University, observed genital temperature changes to measure sexual arousal in men and women by showing them clips of porn. Researches discovered that both sexes were aroused within 30 seconds. Women reached maximum arousal in about 12 minutes, while men took only about 11.

I’ve heard many people talk about how they use porn as a toy, either with their partner or alone. It’s a source of empowerment, or a tool of exploration for them. Many critics and feminists may argue that porn exploits women, etc. I consider myself a feminist (the equality kind), so if women own their sexuality, really what is there to exploit? (Oprah.com)
