Our Song

Phil Collins Sings:

“I was lying awake last night waiting for your call, but if the rumors are true, I wont bother you at all. I’m trying hard to understand what it takes to be your man. Now I don’t have to wonder anymore.

Least you can do is say you’re sorry. Least you can do is give me my heart back ...

I won’t come around no more. Won’t find me standing outside your door. Least you can do is tell me why.

You said you’d always be there for me. Like a fool, I thought you’d be. Now I don’t know what I was thinking at all.”

Takes you to that place again, doesn’t it? That epiphany moment of discovery. The world has changed, Mr. Winkle, while you slept with your illusions and dreams.

It is the tune many soldiers will sing when they come home to empty houses or hearts.

It is the song heard when the divorce papers are folded and hanging in your hands. You Have Been Served ... and this is the way it sounds.

It is the melody that plays when the cell phone of your lover rings over and over, yet they fail to answer it in your presence and the two of you just stare into each other’s faces knowingly.

It is the music that plays in my head as I remember a stormy night outside in the rain when I asked you if you loved me and there was only silence between the thunder.

“Least you can do is say you’re sorry. Least you can do is give me my heart back. Give me back my heart …”

Sheer poetry! What a gorgeous tribute to the end of love. This would touch the heart of anyone who reads it. Nicely done!
It feels good to write.
