Five Post-Breakup Trips ... For Guys

Some of us have been through several relationship breakups, and after a while, we find cathartic steps to heal and move on to the next stage in our lives. For guys, nothing serves us better than spending more time with our friends or even getting away from work and putting our feet up. So, a combination of both after a rough breakup or divorce can have extraordinary results.

Check out the five vacation ideas below that might not be the usual trip, but will bring us closer to our friends and remind us that the end of a relationship doesn’t have to mean we can no longer enjoy ourselves.

1. Follow Your Favorite Squad
Pack up the sedan, van, SUV or whatever with as much gas station food and friends as possible and hit the arenas in your region. Baseball, basketball, football, any sport that you love to watch live will serve just fine to distract you from your recent heartbreak. This adds a terrific twist to the road trip—you spend time with your friends and get to watch your favorite teams, perhaps in cities you’ve never seen, all while putting your former relationship behind.

2. Hit the Slots
For the gambling man, Atlantic City and Las Vegas can do the trick. Both are easily accessible, depending on your coast (and even if you fly, the Las Vegas airport is only ten minutes from the city), and both feature tons of clubs and restaurants, in addition to the casinos—making either a great place to imbibe in food and drink, meet new people, and hopefully win a bit of cash to pay off some of the mini-bar tabs. Atlantic City has the extra push of a boardwalk loaded with terrific food and easy access to casino floors.

3. Soak Up the Sun in Miami
Jersey Shore and LeBron James took their talents to South Beach—so should you. The white sandy beaches (some nude if that’s your thing), clubs, and local entertainment can last a long weekend or a couple of weeks, depending on your budget. Also, the local Cuban fare satisfies the hungriest of appetites.

4. The Old Boys and the Sea
In a calmer vein, there truly is nothing like the sound of the ocean and casting a line in the Caribbean. Whether it’s big game like swordfish or smaller schools like bass, a fishing charter is a great time to really feel like you’ve “gotten away,” and to reflect and soothe any pains in a short amount of time.

5. Crusin’ USA
Going on a cruise with the guys is a great idea, for the simple fact that it encompasses the previous three options into one giant extravaganza. Lying on the deck as the liner barely breaks ten knots around San Juan or scarfing down numerous buffets all act as simple comfort for even the most broken hearted. Not to mention, we know of lots of girls’ cruises as well, so it could be a great place to start moving on.

What do you think? Have you ever taken a long trip after a breakup? Was hanging out with your boys the best remedy? Did you have to separate yourself from the situation to start the healing process? We want to know!

I don't think beaches and clubs are a good idea after a painful breakup. Every girl you see will remind you at your ex. And there is a risk you will get into a bad relationship (because you desperately want one). I rather go spent some time in nature: long walks in wide landscapes, living in tents and cooking my own food on a wood fire. No pubs around to avoid excessive drinking. Some other guys around is ok if you are sensitive to loneliness. But no girls. They just make you dream about the time everything was ok with your girlfriend. Silence and nature sounds will reset your mind. The basical way of life makes you realize that you don't need a girl to be yourself. A vacation like this will heal you (by the way, it also works well when a beloved one has passed away). Beaches and clubs is for later, when 'you are ready to move on to the next stage of your life'.
It feels good to write.
