Baby Announcements - How Creative
One of my friends created darling “we’re expecting” cards with a picture of her two-year-old son holding two pregnancy test sticks and wearing a t-shirt that says “Big Brother.” Another friend sent an announcement card with a close-up picture of her baby’s first heartbeat scan. What have you seen—or created—in the way of creative baby announcements? Tell us.
The giveaway ended June 17th, but you can still add your story to this chit chat. Look for more giveaways soon and stand by for an announcement about our winner.
i have 2 kids and is hard 4 me to pay them attention especially when i am feeding my lil one of 1 week baby boy
Right now im scared to let anyone to know im preggy
When my daughter was born her big brother got to take pink bubble gum cigars to school to hand out to his classmates to announce her birth.
I don;t have a cute story to share, but my daughter will put this to good use! She is very creative!!! Thanks for a wonderful giveaway.
I would like some adotion announcements.
We combined Christmas cards and Birth announcements. Our Christmas cards had picture postcards of ultrasound inserted in them announcing our baby.
I don't have any creative birth announcements to share, but I would sure like to win one of the photo books. Thanks for a great contest.
I made one with a poem. I didn't know Shutterfly did them!
A relative of ours actually sent out a "We're expecting" email to everyone that included a sound clip of the baby's heartbeat and a picture of the first ultrasound. I thought that was a special way to announce the new baby :) Shutterfly has some great products for that purpose...I wish they would have been around when I had my 3!
Don't have any babies for announcements, but I do lover shutterfly's canvas prints which I think would make a great 1st birthday gift for parents.
I haven't made any baby announcements yet, but I will be sure to use Shutterfly when I have children of my own to announce the new arrivals!
We haven't created anything for birth announcements yet but we have a new grandbaby on its way in the near future and would love to use Shutterfly for the event.
My sent out picture of her newborn son in the bed of a Tonka truck. It was really cute.
I would love this to get a photo book of my daughters wedding and maybe a photo calendar fo my family.
Thanks for a nest and useful contest !
I have a new little granddaughter, so this site will be great for her photos.
I ordered birth announcements when my horse had a baby
I haven't seen or created any creative baby announcements.
Unfortunately when my son was born they did not have Shutterfly. My nephew and his wife did a photo of the big sister holding the new baby and it was her announcing that she was now a big sister. Very cute.
We've ordered several things from shutterfly and have several products on the shelf left we want to do.I hope I win so we can finish some projects we started. posters etc. ty 4 the great contest!:)
I saw a mom created birth announcements in Mandarian digitally
I ordered a book form Shutterfly last year and it came out incredible!
I live for shutterfly and now they even have scrapbook pages. Makes my life so much easier. I did my nephews Baby announcement through shutterfly and made a baby shower book for my sister. After the baby was born we took all the newborn photo's and made 2 books one for each of the granparents.
I ordered my Christmas cards last year from Shutterfly and they came out great.
I would love to make a photo calendar!
I made a photo book about our hawaiian vacation on shutterfly and I love it.
I love shutterfly! I have gotten some wonderful things and great quality pictures from them! All saving me money and time by not having to go to town to get them processed!
I'll be honest. I've never seen anything beyond traditional announcements. Digital photography is opening us up to so many more possibilities now. I'd love to make a calendar with Shutterfly.
I used acid free card stock to create my own announcements with fabric and pastels. I'd love to try and create something unique from Shutterfly for myself or as gift to my sister. Shutterfly looks great!
shutterfly, never used them, would with $100 bucks though!
I love baby announcements
I would love to make photo calendars for Christmas.
Photo books are great for kids when they grow up so they can see themselves when they were younger because you only can get these pictures once.
We have used the online sharing sites to give out of state relatives instant access to our new baby. Shutterfly has some great features.
The photo ooks at Shutterfly are also an incredibe thing to give to Grandparent to celebrate the first few weeks.
This wasn't an announcement, but for my nephew's baby shower ( before we knew it was a nephew) I made a short questionaire that welcomed the baby and had blanks for such things as How do you know me?, What is the one thing I should know about my mom?", What should I know about my dad?, What do you think I will grow up to be? and other questions. Then there was space for a personal message at the bottom. Each person filled out the questions. They received an envelope with a number from 1 to 21 on the outside and put their sheet into the envelope and sealed it. Now each year on my nephew's birthday, we open his special birthday envelope (the envelope whose number corresponds to his year of age). It is fun for him and very fun for my sister to have those memories.
I guess I and everyone I know are not very creative because I have only ever seen the regular store bought cards. I love the ideas that some have posted here.
I usually receive fairly generic cards with a baby picture and stats. I'd love to win this to send out some creative ones when my 2nd daughter is born!
I love Shutterfly products. Since having a baby boy in May, 08, I'd love to win and create a creative baby announcement. THANKS
I'm not imaginative enough to come up with anything cute, but I lofe baby announcements!
The most creative announcement I've seen was for a little girl named Pearl. The card showed a picture of the baby and it appeared as though she was sitting in a giant clam shell. So cute!
THE books that can be made on shutterfly are awesome, plus my girlfriend did her baby announcement, too cute!
My dad died in January and io help myself cope I gathered all the photos I could find, had the saved on disc and made several different photo books for different family members. It was a great project and helped me cope with my loss.
I love using Shutterfly. I don't have time to scrapbook so I do the books on their instead.
I love the shutteryfly books, you can never have too many pictures.
I so enjoy looking at the photos of my grandsons. I also have albums from many decades past that I cherish. No monetary value can be put on those memories.
I receive these creative cards all the time now. I just wish that they had these when I was sending out birth announcements. I love how creative you can be & all the great products available. Thanks!!
I haven't made any announcements myself, but I know someone who had a picture of her baby girl taken in a huge teacup. In the picture, you couldn't tell it was oversized though. It was really cute - almost like an Ann Geddes picture.
My daughter was born on Christmas. We sent out special "Christmas Delivery" announcements.
I stood in the window of our office and waved at the evening traffic. I did silly things every night. When my wife was pregnant with our first child, I posted a sign in the widow, 30 Days to B- day. They posted signs. “What is ‘B-day’?”
I spelled it out for them - “Baby Day”
The number grew smaller. The big day arrived – no baby.Next day the sign read, “Baby Day 1 Day Late.” My wife went 3 weeks late.
On the big day, co-workers made a sign “It’s a Girl”. Cars and trucks blew horns, flashed lights, and cheered.
A bus loaded with fans turned the corner. It came level with our window, stopped and everyone onboard stood and lifted a sign that stretched half the length of the bus – “Congratulations!”
The bus pulled away. I wiped my eyes. They’d unrolled and rolled that sign every night for three weeks. The entertainment I gave them was paid back in a way I never could have imagined

When I was pregnant, a friend of mine found out she was having twins. I was making 2 little personalize "twins" onesis, and had them laying on the kitchen table to dry. My husband walked in and nearly had a heart-attack thinking I was making them for him! ha ha. I love the little books you can put together on Shutter-Fly. We did one for my sister who took a 'baby picture' weekly for a year.
Great ideas! Wish I was more creative..Hi Haley Prescott!! WOW!
Front page, Very Pregnant Mother, Inside Baby Picture and Birth info.
Well neither me or my friends have children, so I haven't had many experiences with baby announcements, but when my sister in law told my brother she was pregnant she made him a dinner of all baby foods (baby back ribs, baby carrotts, etc.) and made him guess why.
We headed straight to WalMart where my hubby purchased Double Stuff Oreos and a Minnesota Twins ball cap to announce that we were having twins. I proceeded to scan and email the ultrasound photo of the Duo to friends and asked them to guess what they were seeing. What fun!!!!!
I'll have to admit that I have never seen or done anything that is especially clever or different. I usually only get the cards that you can buy anywhere. I guess I don't have any creative friends. lol
I do really like the idea of the son holding the pregnancy test strips though and don't find it at all tasteless(as someone else in the forumn suggested).
I had a shirt made for my little girl that said "I'm going to be a big sister!" It took a while for people to figure it out, but it sure made an impact. Now I need to update that shirt with something that says Times Two! She's going to have identical twin little brothers!
We already knew that my daughter-in-law was pregnant because of the IVF but what we didn't know was "how many" - so the announcement came in the form of the ultra-sound picture in an email - Twins. I saved that picture and used it a year later to start off their video slideshow of "a look back" - not a dry eye in the house. The boys turn two this Friday. Oh boy...
My sister in law had tried for years to get pregnant and had several surgeries and then she and her husband setlled on adoption. Then about 6 months into the adoption process one Sunday afternoon they announced to us and their parents that they were pregnant! After all the excitement settled, they added and it's twins! (Then of course 4 weeks later at the ultra sound they announced it was triplets instead!) The triplets are now 5 weeks old and 2 are home with one still in NICU. I love shutterfly! I hope I win!
I love some of the great, creative ideas I'm reading here. I'm going to have to try harder to be clever and come up with something fun and unique!
Anything out of mainstream is fun, lighten up, it a BABY!!! I think it is all creative fun.
Our friends announcement was adorable. Her artist friend drew a cute bottle of Johnson's Baby Powder, with a real glued ribbon on the neck, in pastel. She made the font the same, and since the family last name is Johnson, She write "Johnson's Baby" and all the pertinent info. It was the best, most clever announcement I have ever seen.
I think putting the two year old in a big brother shirt is cute, but having him hold pregnancy test sticks is a little tasteless in my opinion.
After suffering three early miscarriages, my sister was determined to keep her pregnancy a secret until it was nearly certain to be a sucessful one. In her 2nd trimester, my sister sent an email quiz to everyone: Click on the attached sound clip and tell me what you think it is. The answer - the ultrasound of her baby's heartbeating.
My daughter is expecting twin daughters,
Her theme is two peas in a pod.
The announcements were hand made with pea pods on them.
We combined our Birth Announcement and Christmas card. Life can be so busy . . .
I would love to win this so I can show-off my boys!
We're expecting our first child in Jan. and I didnt get a chance to surprise my mother in law...since I was getting so sick and she noticed:) But everyone is elated considering that this is the first grandbaby for both sides of our family!
When we found out we were having twins i went online and found those cute blue baby feet and made them into a border for out "dual head shot" with the pharse TWO HEADS ARE BETTER THAN ONE and sent it out so everyone could see. my sons are the first twins soon to be born in my family in over 80 years so it's a big deal plus i'm very proud.
When my husband and I found out that we were expecting it was just a few weeks before Christmas. We decided to create personalized Christmas cards for all of our family and friends revealing the news. At first glance it appeared to be like any other mass produced holiday card. The front of the card had ornaments on it and read "We really wanted to buy you a special gift this Christmas, but we just could'nt afford it. So...we decided to make you a little something instead..." Then on the inside of the card we affixed a copy of our 10 week ultrasound and wrote "Merry Christmas from the newest member of the family!!!" It was a total surprise for everyone and there were a lot of tears of joy that Christmas (especially from the grandmas-to-be). That day will always remain a very special memory held close to my heart.
My niece laid her baby on a bed of fresh flowers and got a stunning photo for her announcements.
We are 35 weeks pregnant with our third. We found out right before my daughter's second birthday. At her party, one of her gifts was a big sister t-shirt. It actually took a while for people to get it. We then took a picture of the shirt and sent it, on our phone, to out of town friends and family. The reactions were great!
I wish I had something to contribute or knew of special ways to tell others you're expecting - some of these are so creative and cute! I'll have to let my sister in law know all about this!
my sister did a card with a tractor since they're farmers and said look what's coming with the next harvest lol.
What a great prize! This will definitely make somebody a happy camper. Many of the tools that are now available to us make creativity a breeze. Well, at least if you can conceive the concept or idea. It's a far cry from the "old" days, when you actually had to buy this stuff called film and get it developed. Then you needed to be a wiz in the darkroom to "edit" & create your special image. Finally, you had to jump through hoops to produce a silkscreen in order to get the final image onto a shirt or cards. Ahh...the good old days!!!
that is so much fun - i love all the baby annoncements from shutterfly. i have received several very cute & fun cards in the last couple of years and shutterfly has by far the very, very best. keep up the good work and i truly hope i win - i love playing in my shutterfly account.
When I was pregnant with my 2nd son, I announced the pregnancy to my family by painting a Tshirt for my other son that said "Big Brother".
I sent an announcement to my husband on a note with congratulations flowers delivered to his office. It was a fun way to surprise him.
The company for which my husband works likes to communicate via interoffice memo where the first person signs that he/she has read the contents and then forward it to the next person. That continues until the sender gets the envelop back with everyone's signature. To announce our pregnancy, my husband created an official looking interoffice memo and included a full page size picture of our week 15 ultrasound. That was passed around the company as everyone signed and made congratulatory comments. Everyone got a real kick out of the surprise content of the interoffice envelop and we plan to include the completed memo / announcement in our baby's scrap book!
This is the perfect gift for all and many thanks to all who enter; sarah woods, raymondw345@AOl.com
oooh i cant wait or christmas.
To announce our pregnancy I made "sour cream" style containers from scrapbook paper. The pattern / idea came from splitcoaststampers.com. Inside the crimped tube, I put Hershey's kisses and a poem that read Roses are red, violets are blue, we are expecting Baby Number 2!
I'm a soon to be daddy and I normally just whip out (just how it sounds) the ultra sound image and allow time for the big picture to come into focus then prepare for the QnA followed by the congratulations and fan fare.
I love to make fotobooks, thanks for the giveaway!
This would be a wonderful gift for my brother and his wife who are expecting their first child in August. I know they could think of a wonderful fun picture of their newborn. You should see what they've done with photo cards of their dogs!! Thanks for the opportunity to enter.
This would be a great prize for anyone not just for baby stuff - graduation, birthday, anniversary, etc.
Wow! I look to be woefully outnumbered in this room being the only male name I see here.
On a picture of a cloth diaper, it was written in marker, time to do more laundry!
can someone answer this?
i belive i am pregnant, i took 6 hpt test and they all were negative, but my period is due today i know i had tested early, when sholud i test again? and my period has not come yet today. i really hope iam.
hello everyone, i'm angelica.
but just call me anna
Shutterfly is th most wonderful photo store. I made two of their books for friends of ours of our cruise.
A photo frame with the words, "Photo available in 9 month." To me, reading "9 months" is an obvious indicator of pregnancy. With hubby, it meant to keep dialing the phone, talking for 5 minutes, and then... "Wait, what's happening in 9 months?" Duh! :) The parents got a frame that said, "Photo of first grandchild available in 9 months." They of course caught on immediately!
Shutterfly is the best site around! You can make the coolest things with your pictures. My favorite is the photo books - I hardly ever actually print out my digital pictures, this is a really great way to catalog and display your pictures for guests to flip through and for yourself!
This would make an awesome gift for my daughter... she makes Shutterfly books for every occasion of her life & they are absolutely adorable!
I love shutterfly. I have created many special keepsake books of my kids, I do one for each year. I also do special themed ones to send to grandparents and others as special gifts. I t is a wonderful way to stay in touch with families spread out all over the world. The most special book from shutterfly was one a friend made of my son who died in 2004. It was so beautifully thought out with special quotes and photos edited into black and white. I cried my eyes out, but it really meant the world to me that someone remembered my son and my loss and made this memorial keepsake for me.
i have done two shutterfly books one a wedding and one of the nieces they are so beautiful what a keepstake
I got a Christmas card from friends once. The couple was sitting on the beach and he was holding a sign saying "bun in the oven" with an arrow pointing to her belly. Very cute idea!
I love all the great stuff at shutterly.
Oh those pictures are darling. I hope to win a camera soon then the shutterfly certificate will be so helpful if I could win this. I want to learn to use a camera this next year. The baby pictures are so cute.

I used Shutterfly and like it!!!
Shutterfly is the BEST online photo site. I have created many wonderful keepsakes.
The photo books make great sentimental keepsakes. Thanks for the chance to win.
I could really use this. We are going on a family vacation this summer, 24 of us, and I would love to make some memory books of the once in a lifetime trip for gifts.
I love Shutterfly--I recently made a calendar for Mother's Day and it turned out great.
i have so many photos to print, this would be great
I love shutterfly!! I love making picture books
What haven't I done with shutterfly? I've enjoyed making numerous collages and enlargements and of course the photobooks! Digital cameras are great, what is a memory without the actual photos? ;)
I've used Shutterfly once, and that was to place all our summer photo in a book album. I was surprised and LOVED it. I would like to create the another book of our Old Family photos. Grandmas, Great Grandpas for my son to have
A friend of mine made an adorable 1st Birthday Invitation using shutterfly. It was so cute I saved it for ideas as I plan my baby girl's 1st that's coming up in July! I went the professional photographer route for my birth announcement, but for invites and holiday cards online photo services are great!
I love the Shutterfly photo books. We have several and everyone enjoys looking through them.
I LOVE Shutterfly. Their photobooks and cards are so professional. I've started making yearly photobooks for each of my kids. Much better than a box full of unorganized pictures.
havent used shuttrfly for many years, since they first started. they hav really expanded and this would be a wonderful opportunity to have art cards made. many of my friends, and sometimes myself take photos or do art work of our loved ones or our loved times in life, that would be nice to catch in a memorable way. photo books bring lasting memories and are great gifts as well. thanks for the giveaway. cathy b
Shutterfly rocks!
I've never been to crafty but with Shutterfly I'm able to make things that looks as though I am. :0)
I've made announcements and photo books that look just wonderful!
Thanks
I love Shutterfly!
Christmas this year I made photo books of the grandkids for Granpa & Grams!
They loved them!
Thanks for the awesome giveaway!
I have seen collages with their newborn and their other children together. That just looks so special. I thought this was so creative. We made photcards of our boys for christmas and again at easter and at their little sporting events. Too cute. I love taking photos and this would be perfect for us.
Shutterfly is the greatest. For us busy folks, it is a way to be crafty online. I made a photobook of our family vacation last year and it was wonderful.
I would loveeee to win this, money is tight and Id love to get some of their birth announcements to show off my son coming this summer!!
We made my 3 year old a photo book for Christmas of all her favorite pictures of her with our family and Dora! I mean what kid doesnt LOVE Dora???
I made these great collages for my kids. I used pictures of all their friends, then had them framed. Very cool!
My friend took images of her great grandmother, her grandma, her mom and herself and created a kind of montage image as a backdrop for her new baby girl's pic. It was gorgeous.
I found an amazing site, www.babyshere.com, that makes custom birth announcements. I'm not sure if they offer gift cards, but they would make great gifts for new parents.
As a graphic designer I didn't want to miss the opportunity to design something beautiful to let my friends know about my child's arrival...Well, after his birth I didn't have the time and/or energy to sit in front of the computer to create something. It took me 12 months to finally do it! ...and I designed a beautiful postcard letting all our friends know that little Ollie was turning 1 ;-)
I have always loved when an expecting mother does a black and white photo shoot. Its such a beautiful moment to be captured.
I believe we have the same friend! I also loved her next one, which was a combined Christmas card/We're Expecting card. It had a sepia photo of Harry standing in the rolling green hills of England and under that was a separate ultrasound photo of Elsie (born just a few weeks ago) printed on translucent paper. She's so creative!
