Spanking: What Should I Do?

I’m ten. My parents don’t spank me. I’m thinking of spanking my kids when I have them, because on one hand, spanking is a nice benefit to them, but on another, spanking can make your kids not like you.

I’m imagining my little girl, Morganah, eating skinny. She’s two years old, then another girl, Kate, one and a half, comes toddling along. Morganah then hops out of her high chair. Next, she pushes Kate down to the floor. What should I do? Take Kate, then swoop up Morganah, then put Kate with my husband? Then bring Morganah to her room and spank her? Or take care of Kate first and put Morganah in her room? I would very much like if you would leave a comment with suggestions!

If you are going to spank a child for doing something he/she shouldn't be doing, the longer time between the action and reaction (spanking) the less the child will remember what he/she did wrong. Having given you that rule of thumb, in your case, I would pick up Morganah and spank her on the spot. Once she settles down, then make her applolgize to Kate. This will benefit Kate as welll as she will understand what would happen if she decided to push someone down. The key is to be consistant with all children, if one gets spanked for a behavior, then the all should get spanked if they also exhibate that same behavior. About your comment that "spanking can make your kids not like you": That is true at the moment of the spanking, but children are resiliant, they will still love you even when they say that they hate you. Trust me on this one, I know this from experience.
