(Video) Method for Toddlers to Save Themselves from Drowning

This is a very scary video for any parent to watch. More information about the ISR program mentioned can be found below the video.

From the Web site:

“Welcome to Infant Swimming Resource - South Mountain with Certified ISR Drowning Prevention Specialist Casey Bunn.

ISR is the most comprehensive drowning prevention program. As a part of ISR, Casey Bunn is dedicated to the eradication of the drowning epidemic facing our children.

The ISR mission is to get to the next child before that child gets to the water. The reality of infant and child drowning is that, in most cases, it is a preventable tragedy.”

I have to say, this video made me cry. Because 2 months ago my best friends little boy drowned in an above ground pool, while under his babysitters care. There is absolutely NO way you can keep tabs on curious children every moment of their little lives. However, had their little boy's parents known of this kind of course, I'm SURE that they'd have had him trained in this. Which probably could have saved his life! I also wanted to add to your response Andrew... my husband and I will take our children to the local pool and let our 2 and 4 year olds play. However, even while watching them it's STILL possible to lose them! There have been many times that I have had to push my way through other parents just to reach my little one that went through a tunnel or down a slide. I love my children and I watch them every given moment while they are in the water, but to keep up with them... that's another story! But don't bash this video and their technique to help save children!

Andrew...you are correct, however it does not hurt to have something like this in place as a precaution. Unfortunately, kids have a way of finding trouble and moving so quickly they are hard to keep up with. bad things can happen so fast it is amazing! Why not have a back up?

Ok, first of all... this is stupid and a worthless video. This is just another video/reason for parents to do the least amount to help and improve their children. I've been a lifeguard for damn near 5 years and I've saved enough children's lives and everytime I do I look at parents and put the blame on them. WATCH YOUR DAMN CHILDREN!!!!!!!! If you can't watch and take care of your children then you aren't fit to have them. Everyone needs to grow up!

Ian...Good for you! And thanks for your service!!! I too wonder about kids over 6 who can not swim. Mine all did form the time they could crawl. By time they began school, they could teach the other kids how to swim if needed and where diving! My now 15 yr old was diving at 3 1/2 and fairly good at it too. He was like me and has been a fish since birth. He loves the water! THx for sharing with this

Ill chime in real quick here. I'm a ISR veteran. Went through the course back in 85'. It worked well enough that it saved my life later when I was about two. As an added benefit I have always been very comfortable in the water. It was very strange to me to see kids when I was eight or so who were absolutely terrified of the water and needed someone to work with them just to get into the water. As a Marine I did some work as a combat water safety swimmer and to this day I still laugh to myself to remember some of these other Marines... big strong men nearly brought to tears when we had to give them their water training. This is a amazing program and there is no doubt in my mind that when I have one, my child will be in it. When they are old enough they will be SCUBA diving with daddy!
It feels good to write.
