Serious love... a couple of treats... and a movie that is only watched on special occasions. Plus, a mini massage at night with delicious smelling organic essential oils.
i could put this to good use being a college student
A hug and a mini puppet show with the stuffed animals! And of course, chicken soup :)
Ice cream always gets them talking and feeling better.
kk1lewis at aol dot com
good dose of LOVE! and soup and talk.
I make homemade chicken, potatoes and plenty of dumplings :)
Whenever my son is feeling bad I try to take his mind off of being sick. We usually play some board games or Go fish. We also like to relax and watch a movie. I also like to give him alot of fluid and offer him popsicles. When my son has a cold and needs relief I also like Vicks Vapor Rub. It really helps him to breath better.
For getting rid of the cold and cough try this one!..... it works wonders
How to prepare Turmeric milk:
1. Take a glass of milk
2. Add sugar to taste
3. Add half a teaspoon of turmeric powder
4. Bring it to a boil
5. Filter the milk and give it to your Kid.
Let you kid have this milk just before going to bed , then rub a little Vicks Vaporub on his/her chest , put a blanket on him/her and put them to sleep.
Turmeric has a lot of medicinal value and is a significant component in many ayurvedic medicines.
I get my kids whatever makes them feel better and loved! A cool cloth for their forehead always works best and maybe a cold strip and a fave DVD :D
I read them their favorite story, this way they are sitting. We also have a medicine dance that I do that they enjoy. It is funny looking but they laugh andwill take what they need too.
I make chicken soup and give them ginger ale.
I tuck my daughter in on the recliner and put on some of our favorite movies. I make her some good old chicken soup.
I don't have any kids but when I was a kid, I would have a bell to ring and if I needed anything, my mom would be right by my side. She would also bring me lots of juice and make me chicken noodle soup.
Love, Love, and a good movie
When my kids are sick, they love it when I check in on them during the night. Tissues, toast ,water or medication arrive if needed. Of course they get lots of attention during the day but at night they feel alone. I give them a bell that they can ring if they need me. Not one of them has ever rung the bell but they make sure that it is within reach. I think that they want to know that you are there for them if and when they might need you.
I have a blanket that I sleep with every night. In fact I have slept with it for about 20 years now.
When my kids are sick I put them on the couch with ginger ale (something about that is always comforting), the remote, a DO NOT distrub sign from the other kids, carte blanche on TV channels, Vicks on the chest and feet (with socks), and my blanket. (We call it woobage.) No matter if it is my teens or my little girls, they all seem to love it. Something comforting about having that blanket around them.
I remember so well that when I was a child my dad would rub our chests and backs with Vicks, put some around the nose, and rub some on the indention in your neck just below the adams apple. We were snapped into our footie jammies which kept us snug and warm. Thank you for the opportunity to participate in this giveaway!
lots of cuddling and love...nothing works better
Lots of pampering, staying with them to read a story or just cuddle. Chicken noodle soup is usually what they want to eat and Sprite or 7UP if their tummy is upset.
When my little ones feel badly, they definitely get more attention and pampering than usual...whatever is most comforting at the time is what's done.
Needed meds and lots of attention.
I make them feel comfy and put something on TV they love and feed them their favorite foods. I am there for them.
I take complete care of my little man. Whatever he wants (within reason) he gets. :D
I do a bit of back-scratching. It must run in the family, 'cuz my husband likes that, too.
I like Vicks NyQuill...and I love giftcards !!!
I fix my son ANYTHING he asks for for dinner, we watch a movie and play a game together, snuggling under my oversized quilt. He sometimes stretches out his "being sick" a little longer because he is enjoying it so much...lol.
For colds we have a Vicks humidifier that we use with cough suppresant liquid on top. I also rub the bottom of his feet and chest with Vicks. If its a flu, then I usually also sleep in his room to just keep a closer eye on him. Just having mom close can make things better.
For high fevers, I alternate tylenol and motrin. For nausea and diarrhea, I follow the famous BRAT diet with gingerale. For congestion, We use Vicks of course. My mother always used it as did my grandparents. Nothing is more comforting that the smell of vicks.
We're a Vicks family! I stock up on the tissues with Vicks, Vapo Rub and loads of chicken soup when my kids are sick.
My eldest has this doll she's had since birth and when she's feeling sick or sad, we give it a bath in the washing machine and that makes her feel better.
Singing "You are my sunshine" always gets a smile.
Well, I try to get them their favorite foods and toys. Always tell them the pets are happy today and theywant you to be too.
We are a three generation Vicks family. Our most common use for it is to rub it on our feet right after a hot bath at night. We put cotton socks on right away and it really helps my little one with congestion and head colds. My mom always rubbed it all over my chest and then put a soft cotton flannel cloth on over it.
spoonful of chocolate syrup for sore throat, always helped me as a kid!
Give them a bowl of soup, their medication, and give them my love and support.
When my kids are sick, I make some homemade chicken noodle soup. They ususally want that with some crackers and ginger ale. I hate it when they are sick! Vicks is perfect, because I don't like to give them a lot of medicine. It is really soothing, and helps them breathe, so they can sleep.
I'm dealing with strep throat for the 6th time this year right now so I'm almost an expert on this. lol j/k I'm give them motrin and plenty of drinks. I'm real big on cuddling with them when they are sick. They get to lay around and watch some cartoons. I'm so ready for the sick season to be done and over with.
I give them tylenol, rub them down with vicks. Get a glass of ginger ale and lay with them watching their fave dvd usually rubbing their temples till they fall asleep.
I always give them stuff I find free online when I visit
Sprite, a comfy bed, and a good night's sleep follow a warm bowl of soup.
I rub them down with Vick's VapoRub, fire up the humidifier and put in a great family movie. Then we cuddle while watching the movie.
As a child I experienced great comfort whenever I had a chest cold or the flu and my mom rubbed Vick's vapor on me, now as a mom i do the same with my kids to give them relief.
I always use Vicks Vapor Rub when my children our sick. I put some on thier chest and put a warm compress over their chest. I find that it is the best remedy for the flu.
I spend time with them watching their favorite dvd and let them have soup and I use vapor rub with the humidifier when they go to bed.
Homemade chicken noodle soup, ginger ale and toast will cure just about anything. Also rubbing Vicks on the bottom of feet. I have no idea why this works, but it does.
My mom used Vicks on my sister and me 60 years ago. I still use it if I get a chest cold.
I've always liked the power of a good story read to a child. Child in my lap if little enough or snuggled up to my side if bigger.
Orange juice or Emergen-C for that vitamin boost to help speed recovery.
I just plain old baby them :) Whatever they want they usually get when they are sick. I make them up a bed on the couch like my mom did when I was little. Then I rub their back or head till they fall asleep.
Use a vaporizer at night when my child goes to bed so he can breathe better and get lots of rest.
I like to cuddle with them, spend extra time just with them, read, etc.
I try to hang out with them doing quiet activities that they want to do and giving them treats like Popsicles and chicken and stars!
A warm bath, a spoonful of honey and a towel and pjs straight out of the dryer!
Extra love and attention is always the best medicine
My son's favorite chicken noodle soup & plenty of Puffs Plus with lotion so my son does not get a sore nose and lots of hugs.
My two year got a slight cold when after his first visit far away to visit family when he was one, and nursing really helped.
chicken soup is so dang good!!
Vicks Vapor Rub always does the trick!
I put Vicks Vapor Rub on their chest, wrap them up and hold them close to me as I rock them .
A little Vicks Vapor Rub, my favorite blanket and a warm cloth laid between is what
I always did with our kids!
I make my special herbal tea from herbs from my garden. I have sleepy time socks and a sleepy time blanket that helps small children feel better. And I read them tons of books to get their mind of feeling so ill.
It depends on the age, but lots of extra attention does wonders!
Cat-nip tea is excellent for colic. You can even add a few drops of lavender essential oil to any lotion or bath oil to help them get to sleep quicker and more soundly. A little massage at bedtime can work wonders as well.
I know that it's an old wives tale, but putting Vicks on the bottom of my son's feet right before he falls asleep helps him sleep better throughout the night.
Depends on the age: my baby gets lots of cuddle time in his sling & I pop him into the bouncy while I take a shower for a good steam. At night it's a propped up crib with a humidifier running nearby (tent them in if they're really stuffy!)
For my older two: jammies, a movie & a good lazy cuddle day work wonders. At a little Vicks on the feet at night to quiet the coughing :) Works every time!!
grandmas homemade chicken soup always makes my kids feel better along with extra hugs and kisses :)
I make home made chicken noodle soup and rock them to sleep!
I just hold them close and stroke their head while hey drift off.
A little Vicks, a nice blanket, and some warm hot chocolate.
I take my cozy plush robe and put it on them while they nap off their sickness.
I make up the couch like a bed so he can be in the middle of things and not feel like he's missing out, use Vicks VapoRub and cook chicken noodle soup - that's his favorite.
Mine would get to lay on the couch with their pillow and blanket and get whatever they needed. Sometimes rubbing their backs or tummy. Maybe reading a few stories. Watch their favorite shows.
I usually hug his and give out backrubs and read quietly to him
I always rock my daughter and sing silly songs we make up. But our all time favorite song to sing is, "You Are My Sunshine".
Chicken soup, a big fluffy blanket, and a big hug!
My son loves it when I make him a cup of hot chocolate with mini marshmallows. I also put some Vicks on his chest and put a nice warm towel over it. I then put a pillow and blanket on the couch and together we watch some of his favorite DVD's. I am not sure if it is the Vicks or just cuddling together but his colds always seem to get better in a few days.
I give them hot soup, jello and their special comforters. Most importantly I rub the new Vicks Vaporub CREAM on their chests. It feels so much better then the older type we had when I was a child. I even use it myself and recommend it to friends although they say they have a hard time finding it in the stores. Hope there's lots out there this season. Vicks, their favorite foods, and lots of love and attention are all they need. In a day or two they're happy and healthy again. The new Vicks cream is such a wonderful product improvment and so much more comfortable and less messy for all. I love it.
A back rub and a homecooked meal. It never fails.
I usually give them a warm bath, give them tylenol if they need it, and cuddle them until they feel better. I hate when my little guys are sick. I also usually pray that I can take their sickness from them.
I personally used Vicks because that is the only the thing that will work.
I do every thing I can, because I hate to see some one I care for to be sick.
I wait on him and bring him anything good he wants to eat.
Give him vitamins and lots of liquids. Keep him warm and comfy.
He usually gets better soon.
I load them up with valium and codeine....and rub Vicks on their chest of course. Hook up up to a heart monitor just to make sure I didn't over-do the codeine, and 48 hours later, their out running around and playing their little hearts out.
I give them chicken noodle soup and a homemade chocolate chip cookie!
To make my nieces and nephew feel better, I bundle them up when they are sick. I also give them some games to play to occupy their minds so they don't focus on the fact that they are sick.
Oh the Vicks is a major part of the process. Rub on the Vicks, make up the couch, stock up on ginger ale & lots of hugs and once he starts feeling better, then it's a new coloring book & crayons.
I like to make my famous grilled cheese, and the drink is 7up.
I have four daughters and whenever one is sick I make up the couch in the family room with sheets and bedding. This makes them feel special.
I personally grew up using vicks for Everything and my daughter is now just like mommy sleeps with it next to her bed year round!!
My sweetpeas are in their favorite jammies and in their bed I'll place their "top priority" stuffed animals to keep them company when mommy is out of the room. Cream of wheat or soup is on the menu; warm and filling.
Extra stories and tickles or kisses keep them happy.
Tomato soup and lots and lots of hugs!
make them hot soup, watch their fav dvd&rest on the couch
make a special herb tea with honey and lemon, and read a nice story
My mom used Vicks and Bourbon, lemon, and honey.
My mom used Vicks and Bourbon, lemon, and honey. It would probably be considered child abuse today.
When my 9 year old daughter isn't feeling well, I rub a dab of Vicks under her nose to help her breath better, then rub some on her chest and the soles of her feet. Of course, it's only fair that Mom has a "Vicks Mustache", as well, so I let her rub a dab under my nose. Then we Eskimo kiss and end up laughing!
If you rub Vicks on the sole of their feet, it will stop their coughing.
I don't have any children, but I've used Vicks for years and would love to be entered in this contest!
My "little ones" are grown now, so what I do to make them feel better is bring them a pot of homemade chicken soup.
When my children are sick we always give them tons of extra attention and they get to sleep with mommy and daddy if they are feeling really bad.
Treat them extra special.....Let them sleep on sofa and watch tv...
Lots o love--and hot lemonade with honey.
When my little ones are not feeling well I give them lots of hugs and kisses, I also have them get a lot rest. When they have a fever I offer them something like tylenol or motrin to help, sometimes they want it other times they don't, I also give them lots of fluids if they can keep it down and chicken soup. When they are throwing up and want to eat I start them out with tea and toast. When they have a stuffy nose and can't breathe I don't like to use liquid decongestants because they are no good so I offer them Vick's Vapor Rub which I put in their chest, throat and sometime on or under their nose depending how bad they are. These things have worked very well for me for the past 11 years and I don't plan on changing them.
Each of my children had a special (washable) stuffed animal to carry and hug when they were sick.....it only came out of storage then and went back after we were 'all better'.
We watch some of my sons favorite DVDs like CARS to help keep his mind off the illness the suffering from
I let him veg with some juice and his favorite snacks either with a few of his favorite books or with his favorite shows. For his symptoms, I run a humidifier, give him his vitamins, some elderberry syrup and ride it out.
Whenever there is a temper tantrum brewing and tensions and voices are escalating .....there amongst the loud crescendo of chaos ..i begin to hum...very quietly ...and then slowly i begin to sing a song that is close to my heart. When the energy changes in a room...the people in it follow. Soon everyone is singing and we are full of joy and calm...it my musical rx.
My girly and I rent some fun movies, get some good orange juice, and curl up on the couch with a big blanket and just rest and laugh at the funnies. If she has a snorky nose, I'll put vicks on her chest and then put her in a warm bath, the steam and the vicks, help clear up the congestion
When my daughter feels ill It's a great time to take out our memories book and remember the good times or put some new good times in
cuddle them while rocking in a rocking chair
Give um a warm bath - and a hug
Last fall, my husband, our 18 mo son, and I all got pharengitis - the weekend before fall semester started. Needless to say, none of us felt well enough to go to classes (my son goes to an early access day care) but had to anyway. By the end of the first week, our noses were red, chafed, and still running. I started using tissues with lotion on them, and soon lost the red, chafed skin around my nose. Now,I only buy tissues with lotion so I don't end up cracking the skin again. Before I bought lotioned tissues, I had to use lotion everytime I blew my nose and still ended up crackin gthe skin.
There is something to be said for figuring out the child's needs and then meeting them. So the first step is to observe and your instinct will let you know what is needed in that particular instant.
keep them busy to get their minds off if, play board games, crafts and any kind of exercise
For an infant, nothing is better than extra time nursing. My pediatrician was Ok with using guiafenissen preparations such as robitussin to keep noses unstuffed so that didn't interfere with nursing. Must check for correct dose for age and size. When they were older and would eat nothing else, chicken noodle soup was the favorite. For all ages needing extra fluids after infancy, a mixture of ginger ale, which settles the stomach, and cranberry juice, which gives it more taste and cuts through the bad mouth/sick taste. I have found that people who don't like either almost always like the combination. I use 2/3 to 3/4 ginger ale with the remaining as cranberry juice.
Read a favorite book together.
I like to rock my baby, and softly rub his face, and reading to him helps sooth him too.
I try to engage their minds through stories, DVDs, or just the soothing sound of my voice, and I stay near them for much longer periods of time when they're sleeping!
Comforting kids is a life-long journey. Motherhood does not end after they grow up enough to take care of themselves. Sometimes it does not matter how old they are. Perhaps as we grow older we have to develop new strategies as the ailments change. Whether it is teething, or braces the comfort of that favorite popsicle is equally important. It may be a broken heart or a broken toe, pain relief is essential. My grandmother was a firm believer in Vicks vapor rub...as it was the cure-all. She used it on sprained ankles and sore throats. Nobody was as fast to whip out that little bottle! I used to think she had them hid all over her house, in her car, and in her purse. Equally shocking is that I never saw an empty bottle. It was like magic. The smell alone makes me feel better. I would have never made it through medical school without some vicks under my nose...it is surprising how well it can mask really BAD odors. Seriously. Every nurse has it in their pocket.
They get to drink from a "fancy" glass while watching their picks on dvd or tv with Mom. They also get to pick stories to have read to them while enjoying a back rub.
when my kids were sick I always made sure they had plenty of Popsicles and lots of 7-up or ginger ale and any snack they could handle depending on their appetite at the time, and I would stay as close to them as I could reading a story or just watching videos, the extra attention and care I gave them seemed to make them less cranky and help to keep them rested. Thanks for hosting this wonderful giveaway
When my son has a cold, stuffy nose etc. I rub vicks vapor rub on the bottom of his feet and put socks on before he goes to bed and it helps him breath better and he sleeps all night long. We love Vicks Vapor Rub!!! You should try it - it really works.
Let them set up a bed in the living room and baby them all day.
I have 3 young children all under the age of 10 so when one get sick usually the other 2 follow shortly thereafter. I find when they are sick and feeling sad giving them my undivided attention is truly what they want. They want me close, they want to feel protected, and mostly pampered by mommie. My kids know there are days when I am so busy I am often multi-tasking when it comes to spending time with them so when they are under the weather I make sure to stop with the normal daily activities and chores and make it known to them I am there for them for whatever they are in the mood for. I think this gives them the comfort and love that they are needing on such a larger level than on a day when they are healthy and happy! I do believe in old fashioned pampering, chicken noodle soup, reading them stories they love, giving them back massages and yes of course, using Vick's on their chest to help them breathe easier! Thank you so much for the opportunity to enter and share my story!
My daughter loves me to rub her back.
My four year old always gets horrible headaches when she runs a fever to soothe her I give her Motrin or Tylenol then get her a cold compress for her head ( usually a cool wet wash rag), I tuck her in to bed making her comfy and then lay beside her rubbing her head and speaking or singing to her softly to soothe her til she falls asleep. I have four children and singing or speaking softly letting them know they are safe and making them feel secure has always worked best when they are sick, even my older children say TLC from mom always helps make them feel better.
We turn on some of our favorite music and sing along.
When my children were younger they really loved snuggling in our bed and watch movies.
hot tea with honey and lemon.
Let them snuggle up with me in my bed, sleep late, watch cartoons, lots of chicken soup and gatorade.
I usually give my daughter a bath with a drop of Johnson & Johnson's Soothing Vapor Baby Bath stuff. LOVE IT! And I follow it up by clothing her in her fuzzy jammies, wrapping her in her "softie" blanky and read a silly book to calm her down. And sometimes, we just veg together watching Dora while I rub her neck and back.
Vick's Vapor Rub is a smell I'll never forget from growing up. My grandchildren know when they have a cold/flu...they can get lots of love and pampering by coming to Grammy's.
We have a special blanket and a special cup to drink chicken noodle soup from. We always have Hawaiian Punch too, to keep hydrated.
I don't have children, but my mom made me feel better by putting Vicks Vaporub on my chest. I still love that smell.
When my kids are under the weather I like them to rest and do quiet things like coloring or reading. There is always a movie handy too. They like toast triangles and hot apple cider or juice with a cinnamon stick they can stir it with. I water-down the cider so it's just sweet enough. They love smelling the steam. Mmmm apples and cinnamon. When I was a kid and we were sick my mom used to rub Vicks on our chests after our baths at night and put flannel jammies on us. Sometimes she would put a little just under our noses and we could breath it in during the day.
Uh, a freudian slip from gluchnurse, trust me, I use a HEATING pad, not a 'hitting pad' on the sick ones....
Are we talking about my child, or my husband who when sick whines worse than my son? For both of them, I warm the bed with a hitting pad if they have the chills, put on soft jazz for my husband, tea with honey for them both, and make sure the remote control has lots of batteries for my son, because you can bet that as he snuggles on the couch with his childhood down comforter that the 'on demand' movies will run 24/7.
I always gave mine a little bell(called the 'sick Bell" )when they were young so all they had to do was shake it and Mommy came running. They loved it and it made them feel even more like they were getting extra special care when the felt bad.
When my youngest gets the screams, and nothing else works, I usually resort to a few seconds of tickling.
i let her lay on the couch with me and sip soup.
I cuddle my daughter and let her know I love her.
When my kids are sick they watch TV on the couch with a blanket and juice.
The hiistory of Vicks (if you dont know) makes interesting reading. It was a family business run by Dr. Joshua Vick living in North Carolina (our home town) way back in the 1890. What I find amazing .. its still used and trusted today by millions.
And, what do I do when my little ones are ill ... I read to them stories or I tell them stories about clever people - those stil alive and those long deceased - and our next story will be .. for sure about Dr Vick !
I always put them on the couch, tv real low and lots of juices with an occasional popsicle.
When my daughter is sick, plenty of cozy cuddle time, soup, jello and her favorite RX - popsicles! If she's just feeling down, we usually just need to slow down and have some mommy-daughter time alone.
I make grilled cheese and lots of hot tea. I also make sure she feels really comfortable whether in bed or lounging on the couch with pillows and a blanket.
Lots of love and attention; chicken soup; cartoons all day.
When my child is sick I comfort them as best I can. I hold them, snuggle and offer special treats.
i pamper them and fix chicken soup and warm baths.
When my child is sick I fix him ginger tea with honey and lemon. The ginger calms and the honey and lemon soothe cold symptoms. I also fix lamb broth made with lamb shanks it is soothing. In addition, I keep Pedialyte on hand in case there is vomiting (it rehydrates) and club soda in case of phlegm (it thins and reduces phlegm). I also give my child cold ginger ale or seven up to cool off and ease the pain of a sore throat and as a treat. However, the most comforting and fun thing I do is pretend that some of my child's stuffed animals are sick and I nurse them also. I do their voices and have them carry on conversations with my child and me.
WHEN MY CHILDREN GET SICK, I OFFER THEM HOT COCOA. THAT IS MY WAY OF CONSOLING THEM. I ALSO TELL THEM THAT I ADD EXTRA CHOCOLATE TO MAKE IT BETTER. TECHNICALLY, I DO. BUT YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN YOUR CHILD IS GOING TO FEEL LIKE EATING OR EVEN BE ABLE TO HOLD DOWN ANYTHING SOLID. SO, THE EXTRA CHOCOLATE---- A WEIGHT-GAINER PACKET THAT IS CHOCOLATE MIX, JUST WITH ADDED CALORIES. THE KIDS NEED FOOD, BUT A GOOD SUBSTITUTE IS A CALORIE PACK CONCEALED IN HOT CHOCOLATE!
I cuddle with my kids when they are sick. Watch a movie with them or read them stories. They get plenty to drink and a doctor's visit or medicine, if needed.
Plenty of water with orange slices-she loves the flavor and it's a great way to get in extra vitamins while keeping her hydrated
I give them all the attention - Let them lay in our bed, rent a special movie, get whatever food they need to make them feel better. If they are feeling sick they can at least feel special.
I rub Vicks just under her nose and on her chest.
a little honey tea, some vicks on the feet wrapped in warm socks, a favorite book and dim lights always make them feel comfy and better!
I rub Vicks on the soles of her feet and put socks on. It isn't just an old wives tale...it really helps her cold
Vicks worked wonders for allowing me to breathe when I had colds as a child.
I remember my Mother rubbing me down with Vicks and wrapping my neck with a warmed towel as a child.
Those plug-in things that have little strips that are saturated in eucalyptus oil have saved my life many times! Vicks makes one and so does Sudafed. The refills are expensive, so I've started using drops of eucalyptus oil on the used strips. It works great!
when my children are sick, we use a sheet with pound puppies for when they a fever and we dim the room and try to be quiet so they can rest. the sheet has really cute puppies to look at to make them smile and we have used it ever since their first cold. we also snuggle in bed and i caresse their hair and talk softly to them or sing. i give them the choice of how i can make them feel better. my oldest is 5 and my youngest is 3 so depending on the severity of the sickness we will change it up sometimes. thanks for the chat, megan
We let her sleep in bed with us (to mind the fevers) and give her plenty of watered down juice and her favorite fruits to keep her hydrated. We also have a special blankie she loves to use and she will snuggle under that on my lap, falling asleep to Celtic Woman DVD!
always have hand sanitizer in hand and vicks
I am a mother to three wonderful kids. My kids love to do...what we call "baby rocking". All baby rocking is is snuggling in a blanket next to mama in the recliner while I rock and sing to them. I also brush their face and hair with my fingers. It calms and soothes my kids whether they are sick or hurt. Sometimes all it takes is a mom's touch and soft voice to lift their spirits. Many times they will come to me and just ask to "baby rock". I just love to see their sweet smiles as we rock.
Thank you for letting me share my special moments with you! Laura
My children love a good old fashion hug no matter how old they are. Another favorite is ginger ale and we found the only brand is vernors. Then they like to have their favorite blanket to cuddle in.
My kids also like to rest near the rest of the family so I let them cuddle on couch or love seat, I think it is more of feeling secure when their feeling blue. Depending on if they want it hot or cold I take a wash cloth and get it wet and put it in a baggie so that it don't drip since they like it wetter, and it keeps temp just a little bit longer. for their foreheads. Lots of chicken noodle soup or broth.
Thank you.

May daughter recently had the flu so bad she had to IV fluids, so, I got her favorite Build A Bear stuffed animal "Fluffers" to hold onto and a really good "mommy and daughter book" and read to her snuggled on my lap. She soon got wrapped up hugging her "fluffers" and her story and then went off to sleep for some good needed rest. Just the touch and comfort is what a child needs.
A warm and snugly bed, a nice calming sleepy time story and something warm in the belly makes for healing sleep and fond memories.
I don't have any kids, but I remember lots of love and attention and a warm blanket from my Mom would get me through a cold.
A special blanket, stuffed animal, lots of love, Vicks, tea and chicken broth.
When my Sophie is sick I bathe her in warm water with vapor bath soap from gerber its great. I also hold her and comfort her and give her some saltine crackers, as well as warming her chest with baby vicks and the palms of her feet wrapped in tissue paper.
When my kids are sick, I set them up in bed with their favorite videos or DVDs, soup made with just chicken broth and alphabet noodles, plain saltines, and ginger ale, all served on a special princess bed tray, used only for these times of illness. They also get back rubs, popsicle and plenty of TLC!
My son always feels better when I take good care of him when he is sick. I buy him ginger ale, make homemade chicken soup, and buy him those little oyster soup crackers to settle his tummy. I don't like when he gets sick, but I do enjoy being a good mom to him at those times.
I am a 24 year old, single, work at home, mother of 1oinry little boy (not so when he's feeling sick). What I do to make my little guy feel better consists of many things. The very most important is to stock up on everything you will need for that sick day (or week) ahead of time, the rest after that is a piece of cake. I give my little guy PEDIATRIC ELECTROLYTE FREEZER POPS, PEDIATRIC ELECTROLYTE DRINKS, WARM JELL-O TO DRINK, TYLENOL, APPLESAUCE, BANANAS, TOAST, COOL BATHS, COOL WASH CLOTHES, BABY VICKS, run the HUMIDIFIER, plug in the PEDIA CARE GENTLE VAPORS PLUG UNIT, and LOTS OF COMPASSION. I make sure he gets PLENTY OF REST and FLUIDS. But the one thing that seems to make him feel the best, above all, is to indulge that motherly instinct and just HOLD HIM. Since I am a work at home single mother, I call the shots and I can just take the day off, if the occasion calls for it and hold him all day if need be to make him feel better. I cherish the fact that I can afford this luxury.
I'm 24 years old and I just had my second child and maybe that has something to do with the fact that I don't try to prevent my kids from getting sick. In fact, I would love to expose them to the chicken pox virus so that they could build up their immunity. All kids need to have their bodies build up immunity and by trying to prevent them from getting sick you are only harming them later in life. When my kids do get sick I make sure they get plenty of fluids and fruit and vegetables to help them fight the disease. I stock up on extra soft tissues, baby vicks, and children's tylenol to help ease any discomfort. All illnesses are much worse the older you get so by exposing them early in life I'm hopeing life will be easier as they get older.
I raised two children and now have two small grand-daughters. The older of the two spends most weekends with me (the youngest is a newborn...Mom won't let her out of her sight yet). If Chloe is sick, I put all weekend plans on hold to concentrate of getting her as well as possible before sending her back home. After a nice warm bath, lotion rub down and some comfy pj's, we pile up on my couch with her favorite toys...a little white lamb and a baby doll, her blanket from her crib set, and sippy cup of favored water. We spend the day/evening watching her favorite DVD's....Blue's Clues, Barney, etc. I'll make her chicken noodle soup...making sure she at least drinks the broth...(saltine crackers go great with it and provide something more substantial on her tummy). I cuddle with her as much as she wants and don't worry about the little things that aren't getting done around the house....nothing else matters when she's not well. I would endure it for her if it were possible.
tuck them in to bed and give them a favorite toy to hold. then i read a good night story till they relax and fall asleep. if they are hungry, I also feed them mashed bananas just like my mom did for me.
I hold my little ones hand in my fingers and hold her close
One-on-one time always helps. I bundle them up, put them in their onesie, read to them and provide hugs and personal attention. Providing lots of fluids helps and of course plenty of rest.
As a mother of 2 (and a Grandmother, now too!) I try to pass on what worked when my 2 were little - they were very rarely sick, and had great immunity. #1) Lots of rest (even pre-schoolers need LOTS of rest!) #2) NO SUGARY Drinks!!! #3) Lots of fresh fruits/veggies - you'd be surprised @ what kids will eat if they are continually exposed to great food! #4) All the fresh air they can stand (it's good for YOU, too!) :)
I always freshen up my son's bed linens. A quick wash and dry of all the sheets, pillowcases and covers makes it a more cozy environment. I also soften the lights by either adjusting the dimmer switch or replacing the bedside bulbs with a soft pink hue. This is so much more easy on the eye's of a febrile little one. A reachable Nalgene bottle with only water can never cause a problem no matter what is ailing him. Then all I have to supply a new box of crayons and print out favorite photos using the coloring book feature on my printer which I afix to a clipboard.
Lots of hugs and kisses tend to help with my 4 & 5yr old boys. Being sick usually means sleeping in mommys bed, I feel I can keep a better eye on them that way.
I usually ask what my kid have in their mind especially food or junk food because sick children dont have appetite for healthy food that we serve.Give them their favourite food especially sturborn child who dont want to take medicine. When they are recovering, healthy food must be replaced with junk food.
a popsicle in the bath tub, cozy blanket, Scooby Doo movie and lots of rest
A WARM BATH AND LOTS OF ORANGE JUICE
We take a warm shower together, while I hold them tightly against me. Then I give them a full body massage in a warm room (near the fireplace or heater) with Burt's Bees lotion or lemon oil. Always works to calm & comfort while they feel loved & cherished. My oldest daughter still asks for this when she's feeling down or unwell...
My littlest one, who is now three years old, is autistic. When he was a baby, we didn't know this of course. We just thought he was hard to get to sleep. When he was feeling bad, or overtired, ( pretty much every night!) the only way I could get him to sleep was to put him in his stroller-in the house! He liked to look out the window in the living room, so I would put him in the stroller in the living room, with the curtains open, tilt him back, rock him back and forth, and sing. For hours sometimes. At least it felt like hours! It never failed to work, and those nights-looking out the front window at the night, and the neighbors tree swaying in the wind, are some of the best memories I carry with me. I still use those songs when my beautiful boy, who just happens to be autistic, has what we call a meltdown. They still work.
my three year old has never gotten sick not one time.
Some of the sweetest memories I keep in my heart are from when my little ones are sick. I worry over them and hold them close to me. I think we all cherish this time. It is so nice to be Mom and be who they need. And right now, I can meet their needs. We have many rituals. Cuddling, warm or cool packs, homemade chicken soup, fishy crackers, crunched up popcycles, warm jello to drink, teddy bear tea. I feel better when I rub Vick's VapoRub on me and them - and have it in the vaporizer. This is how I care for them and love them. I have 4 children, ages 15, 10, 5, and 3. Blessings to you.
I find that gingerale is great for a sick tummy. The little fish shaped cheese crackers is a favorite when most foods upset the stomach. A balloon or a new stuffed toy also perks her up when she starts to feel better.
Warm soup a warm blanket, and some Vick's vapor rub. My Mom always gave me the same comforting treatment and it always makes them feel better.
I am not posting this to WIN any thing but I just want all MOMS there to know... it worked for me everytime and this is a must try.........
To stop night time coughing in a child (or an adult, as we found out personally), put Vicks Vapor Rub generously on the bottom of the feet at bedtime and then cover with socks.
It was a surprising finding and found to be more effective than prescribed medicines for children at bedtime, and in addition to have a soothing and calming effect on sick children who then went on to sleep soundly.
When my babies are sick I put Vick's on my chest (instead of their delicate skin) while I hold them.
Chicken soup Warm wooley socks Vicks Vapor Rub under the nose Big heavy blanket on the bed and the remote
I make sure he eats chicken noodle soup and during the winter months we all drink alot of OJ with pulp. It seems to help alot
PUT VICKS COUGH DROPS 1 TO 5 INTO BOILING WATER WITH TEA BAGS, HONEY, LEMON. THE VAPORS FROM THE COUGH DROPS HELP BRING UP THE FLYM IN THEIR CHEST. I HAVE USES THIS RECIPE FROM MY GRAND CHILDREN TO MY AGED PARENTS WORKS WELL FOR ALL. BEGIN WHEN SNIFFLES START.EVERYONE WILL SLEEP WELL TONITE

The girls would always drop off to sleep with a hand massage, all sides of each finger one at a time and then into their palm. Thinking they were asleep after finger five, if I started to leave their side, slowing their other hand would rise, awaiting its own turn at a massage.
When he's down period, I sit him in my lap and rock him back and forth singing, "Bridge over troubled waters". For some reason he's loved that since he was born....
When my little one has a fever, I alternate between Tylenol and Ibuprofen because it seems to work better (and longer) than just choosing one. The pediatrician confirmed this and explained that after taking several doses in a small period of time, our bodies sort of build up a small tolerance to it, so switching helps relieve that because they are very different.
When anyone in the house has a cold, we put Vicks on their chest, a little on the nose and also on the bottoms of their feet. We then put socks on their feet which helps keep them warm and the Vicks on the feet. I run a vaporizer, feed them chicken noodle soup and lots of vitamin C.
I rub a little Vicks on his chest and give him 1/2 tea spoon of honey and tuck him in his bed with a story.
When the kids feel stuffy, yucky, and maybe feverish I make sure the room is a comfortable temperature, Put Vicks on the nostrils, give them plenty of juices, fix homemade chicken and rice soup And get out the vaporizer with the Vicks liquid to help there breathing & stuffiness. They curl up with there favorite blanket & rest till they feel better & the fever is gone.
our pediatrician told us to rub a little Vicks VapoRub on the tip of her nose. That and along with a lot of suction has gotten us through two colds.
I put Vicks VapoRub on my daughter's back, chest and alittle on her neck and put her in a turtle neck. She gets to spend time in a pop-up tent in her room to really get the benefits of the vapors and also make the being sick a bit more "fun", if it can be at times. (bronchitis isn't that fun!) But she enjoys the massage and actually likes the scent, so we have a good start there! Thanks!
I put Vicks Vaporub on my daughter's back so it's not so strong but it does the trick and I spend a lot of time reading to her and she loves it!
I rub Vicks Vaporub on my little ones feet at night time. I make sure they have soft tissues to use, none of the harsh tissues. I give them chicken soup. Sometimes ice cream or frozen treats that are easy on the sore throat that goes with getting a cold. I make sure they have plenty of fluids.
We spend a lot of time cuddling and one on one mommy time.
If a little one is ill, I take out a special new toy or book that I've been saving for a "special" occasion, something that is interactive, like a funny storybook or a game of fish. I also give a special treat that would otherwise not be allowed, e.g., an ice cream sandwich or popsickle for breakfast dessert (after they've eaten the proper breakfast).
Then we make up silly stories and laugh a lot.
Chicken noodle soup, vicks vaporub, and mommies lap.
Chicken noodle soup,Vicks Vaporub on the chest area and lots of TLC and attention
Whenever my son is stuffed up or coughing. I rub vicks on his chest and cover it with a Kleenex to prevent it from rubbing off onto his clothes. Then in the evenings, I pour some Vicks liquid into his humidifier and turn it on while he's sleeping to help him breath and sleep well. After a couple of nights, he's back to normal!
when my kids run a fever, I first rub a little vaporub on thier chest so they can breath better and then I cool my hands and run my fingers through their hair and across thier forehead. Stroking them with cooled fingers seem to feel very soothing and helps to lower the temperature of thier skin in a relaxing way. I do this, because my mom did it for me, and it is my best memory of being sick, a little vaporub and my mom's cool fingers.
My husband get real bad coughs after he has a cold and we have found putting Vicks Vapor Rub on his feet, he does not cough during the night. Thus giving me a quieter night.
I rub vicks on my little ones feet, and chest. I also give her a lot to tlc along with the nettie pot for sinus problems
when my children were small, I would make homemade chicken noodle soup and some homemade bread. Then I would put their pj's in the dryer to warm them up...rub their chests with vicks (this usually tickled them and they would laugh) and then I would put the warm pj's on them. Then I would settle them down under a blanket and read them a story.
homemade chicken rice soup
lots of tlc and popsicles!
Chicken soup always soothes a cold and helps loosen a dry cough. Of couse hugs help in any illness.
I must have done something right, my little ones are now big ones but they still come to Mom when they feel sick, down or just disappointed in the world. I have three boys and nothing, I mean nothing feels better to me than a long, entwined hug! If it feels this good it has to be worth it! Each of my boys has their own needs since they each are entirely different beings. My oldest always needs me to respond to his sad, pout. A little baby talk from Mom goes a long way when you're almost 18 and can't decide where life is leading you. My middle son loves a back massage! And if sleepy, I gently stroke his eyelids until he drifts off. My "baby" who wihile almost 11 will always be my baby, needs me to look him straight in the eye, talk some courage into him, then both of us take a nice deep breath together. Ahhhh...maybe it'll take two or three but somehow, coming from Mom it always makes it better. I love my boys and will do anything it takes to make them better. Anything.
I turn into a nurse and do whatever I think of to help them feel better including cleaning up throw up, staying up all night with them, getting them food and drink and meds and just not leaving them-ever.
I was my daughter's constant help when she was gravely ill for 14 months, through chemo, 3 surgeries, and radiation-and till she died. When you love someone you are there every minute.
I totally make a production out of my daughter's cold/flu -- i first make her a special noodle soup. Then, i make lemon and honey tea then i give her a back and chest rub w/ some vicks vapor rub. I cuddle with her along with her favorite books and make it a day in bed. It really does help her alleviate the discomfort she is feeling and i see lots of smiles on her face.
My grandson is 11months old and is just recovering from a nasty virus that (of course) the whole family shared. Several things helped ease his discomfort, Boogey Wipes (from BedBathand Beyond) were much gentler and didn't irritate his runny nose like kleenex or even baby wipes sometimes do when using frequently. He also let us wipe his nose without fussing with these. Vicks vapo rub for infants and toddlers helped along with a cool mist humidifier, saline rinse helps unstuff and loosen that heavy mucous as infants can't take decongestants. Using baby motrin and baby tylenol in rotation to ease his aches and pains. Putting Welch's icy fruits in his sippy cup with some apple juice or even ice cubes. Encouraging him to drink plenty of water, juice and formula. Nana made Jewish Penicillan, Chicken Soup with Matzah Balls which he loved. Jello, Pudding, Yogurt where all offered along with his favorite fruits. He didn't have his usual appetite so anything we could get him to eat. :>)
My pedriatrician and my regular doctor have told me that plenty of rest and lots of liquids and tylenol do the job best.
I baby him as much as I can. He really loves eating soup, and taking it easy.
we try a myriad of things, including a cool-mist humidifier, cough syrup, benadryl, vick's baby rub, warm soup, popsicles and ice cream for sore throats, and greater amounts of patience and tolerance.
When my son has an upset stomach I usually give him ginerale or a light soda and crackers. A cold, if I can get him to drink as much as he can and eat, I'm doing good. Even though he is 9 years old, he still likes me to hold him when he is sick. I know this too will pass, but I enjoy every minute of it. Our family is a faithful user of Vicks VapoRub. Also, if he is really stuffy, I give him a warm shower or bath.
A cup of tea, a cozy show and cuddling always makes my guys feel comforted when they don't feel well.
When my 3 girls were little I gave them ginger ale and freezy pops. Also, I would hold them till they fell asleep.
I go and buy medicine and give them some soup to eat. They like gingerale to drink when they are sick. I just let them get some rest to get better
I swear by Vick's Vapo Rub and Vick's Baby Rub. A nice back rub and the song Puff the Magic Dragon or You are my sunshine will usually do the trick!
I have two boys when they get a cold , they get a hot shower, after i put vicks vapor rub on there chest, back and there feet along with some warm socks and cozy pajamas. Some nice warm cinnamon rolls after that.
We like to cuddle up, watch a special movie with some hot cocoa and some warm blankets.
Hug them and hold then many times a day.
I make them some yummy lemon tea with honey and tell them the honey bear hopes they feel better
I am the mom of 3 older kids and believe me, they need lots of TLC when they get sick, too. This has been an especially tough cold and flu season with my 20 year old getting a bad cold/sinus infection and my middle child had strep throat and now a bad cold and the younger one has constant nose bleeds. I give them lots of fluids - green tea is a favorite along with lots of vitamin C. Vicks scented Kleenex is great, too. I have a humidifier going constantly especially at night with their bedroom doors closed. Lots of hugs and kisses , too.
Ice cream or a popsicle for sore throats and then rub their back until they fall asleep.
I gear up the humidifier, Vaporub her chest, and read her favorite story. She's off to sleep in no time!
I give her some chicken noodle soup and a lot of love.
I rub VapoRub on the kids' feet and put some nice, warm socks on them ~ make a big batch of homemade Chicken Noodle soup and really push the Vitamin C! LOTS of liquids!
I'm Canadian so I can't enter the contest but this topic is interesting and I want to join the chit chat. I'm a grandmother of six grandchildren now but I did have several techniques to soothe my two sons when they didn't feel well.
I would brew a pot of rosehip tea and serve it with honey. We gathered the hips each year. This tea is particularly good for colds and headaches - try it. My two sons had the added bonus of feeling grown up drinking tea. (I used my china cups as tea is always better in china teacups).
I read to them each night before sleep overtook them but if they were ill, I would read them their favourite book, "Beebo Builds His House". It's a long children's book and before I ended it they were usually lulled into sleep. It's now an antiquarian book and I saw it on the Net for a huge price!
After I rub them down With Vicks, . If they have a sore throat I give them a Popsicle. Its good for a smile and sooths
Chicken noodle soup is a favorite around here when my kids are sick!
I love vaporub for my kids when they sick. Makes them feel better. thanks.
My mom always counted on Vicks and so do I, my son will not take medicines very well but he loves it when rub his chest and back withVicks when he is sick that he can't sleep because of nose running coughing and feeling acchy, it really works and I also use it when I am sick. Thanks Vicks for making families lives better for generations.
I love Vicks for a cold but it also helps my psoriasis feel better!
make them kings for a day - give them what they need to feel comfortable and try to forget about being sick.
I've been so lucky that my two teenagers haven't gotten sick for a long time. A little stuffy nose from allergies but that's about it. I'll make them chicken noodle soup and give them meds for symptoms but other than sleep and liquids that's about it.
I let my son watch tv and lay in our bed in our bedroom. He really likes it there and it makes him feel better.
When my niece was younger she was sick all the time. You go to the doctor, you get RX meds. You dont go, you buy OTC meds. Meds Meds Meds. No matter whether you are a child or an adult, too many meds and your head feels like a ticking bomb and your tummy is so quesy you can't eat. So my advice is tylenol and a warm bath for your aches (cool if feverish), simply saline in the dark blue bottle for stuffy and or dry noses, vicks for sore red tipped noses and chest congestion, and finally chicken soup and an icee for your tummy and throat. Also, if you feel a cold coming on...start the simply saline and vitamin c.
My little one is now 16 years old. When she was little I use to have her lay on the sofa to watch any videos she wanted and catered to her all day. I made sure she had her special blankies, and her pillows. I got ginger ale if her tummy hurt. And the tv was set for her only, not me. Tissues would be put in reach of her little hands, and if "Mommy" was uttered just once I would be right there to help her. I still do this now when she gets sick, now its rented videos from the store, any food she wants, special drinks and lots of love.
My son who is now 6 months old was really sick. He had a bad case a croop and bronchilitus. I used vicks vapo rub and vapo steam every night. He it really helped his breathing and opened up his airways. I rubbed the vapo rub on his chest and sometimes his back too. Even now when he's not sick from time to time I used these products. They were great and as a first-time mom I can honestly say that I trust this product 100%!
My little ones have been sick this week, with a really nast viral junk that the DR. told me is going into pnemona in a lot of kids. After a lot of vicks on there back, chest and feet. lots of steamy showers, rest and soup I am happy to they are doing better. When the kids are sick we hang out in my room in bed and whatch tv or movies. I keep it kind of dark and they all nap off and on and feel better because I am close. I also use the vicks or other oils in the humidifer or just in a pan on the stove, it helps make it easier to breath and can help kill the germs in the air, thyme, pepermint and eucliptis are my favorites.
When I was a kid my mom used it on my brother and I the whole school year and even in the summer when we came in from playing it was just something that was a part of our lives. Now we're the parents and the tradition carries on to our little ones.
When my girls wake up with a cough at night, or have a cough at bedtime, I rub Vicks on to their feet and chests. Put on socks, and wipe my hand in a tissue that I let them sniff, but make sure they never put it up their noses. My babies sleep through the night! It even works for me when I get my bi-annual bout of sinusitis. Thanks for the great product, VICKS.
my 2 year old likes to rub vicks on her doll when i rub vicks on her....she thinks she's taking care of "Lucy" and that makes her feel better too. I also tell her that my mama rubbed vicks on me when i was a little girl with a bad cough and stuffy nose. she seems to like that.
One of my grandchilden spends "sick days" with me. He likes to get up in grandpa's recliner with a pillow and blanket, watch tv and have me make soft oven cinnamon toast. He can eat that when he has no appetite for anything else. I give him a bottle of water to keep with him and encourage him to drink.
I love vicks, we use it all the time!
I use the Vicks Vaporub to ease in the breathing. I also found that Vicks makes a solution for humidifier type products that will put it in the air to breathe without being as strong.
I give my little guy a bath and a little message and then rub vicks on the bottom of his feet and put cotton socks on and we both jump in bed and watch his favorite spongbob.
When my kids get sick, I like to have them cover up, put extra clothes on and in addition to giving them medicine, I like for them to sweat so they can get rid of the cold. Donna W
When my kids start sniffling, I get out the humidifier, add some liquid vicks and put it next to their beds, I also put vicks on their chest and around their nose so they breath easier. I make sure to start spraying around the house with lysol to kill any germs and make them feel extra better by sratching their backs before bed. Also I always remind them to wash their hands at school.
Vicks is a great help for little kids and big kids with coughs.
I enjoy giving my child a nice warm massage while I sing her a special song...
viicks make the little ones breath easier.
i am liking the new vicks patches for a cold
I make a special shake that is made with orange juice, berries and basically anything that has viatmin C. Also, I usually wash all of the bedding at least once a day to keep the germs to a minimum. I have found this helps keep the sick period short.
Fruit popsicles, lots of cuddling and Vicks in the vaporizor.
Vicks of course, lots of jello and a "sick prize"(usually coloring book or ice cream)
For both our babies, we still use Vicks - we put it on their feet and then put socks on. It works great!
I didn't realize it's been used that long or that it's still used right now. Good to know
rosans4@comcast.net
For those who's sinuses get clogged: put a dab of Vick's Vapor Rub on a tissue and enclose in a sealable vitamin jar and put in your purse. If your sinuses are clogged, open the cap and breathe in the vapors. Instant relief!
i always rub their back and chest with vicks vapor rub before they go to bed... and plug in the vaporizer
give them a hug and comfort them
Snuggie with them and read them books.
My mom always put Vicks on us, but I have never tried it on my kids.
My grandma always told us we had to drink lots of fluid to flush out all of the bad stuff in our noses. She also rubbed Vicks on our chests and that helped a lot. I still do both of those things for my children and think of my grandma everytime I smell Vicks.
I make homemade chicken noodle soup and lay with them all day, making them the center of attention. We watch cartoons and do whatever they want or feel up to doing.
Thank you for the great giveaway!!
Homemade chicken soup and a bit of Vicks VapoRub always comforts the sniffles!
My mom always put a fresh, white percale sheet on the couch and comfort items nearby...I loved the softness of the sheet and getting to hog the couch:) My babies are really little, but I still put out a sheet and after I give them a vapor bath, we lay on the couch together watching whatever they want. I think it is a combo of the snuggles and clear nasal passages that usually give them the BEST, most healing naps.
In addition to snuggling, I give my daughter popsicles and tons of fluids!! I also usually try to keep her smiling and laughing!! I believe laughter helps cure just about everything!!
Give them a bit of space. Don't crowd them. Have some light fun
We snuggle together on the couch watching funny movies, drink chamomile tea and eat homemade chicken noodle soup. My son always worries that I will get sick too, but I told him years ago that Mom's are given super hero suits when they become Mom's so they won't get sick. He still believes it to this day!
Jello cut into his favorite shapes and a popsicle helps!
Get better bears used to be the best..and those popsicles that were shaped like mickey and pluto.
a hug and some tickles always help
I give my baby a warm bath and give him alot of fluids, and put his vick's humidifier. I put the movie KuFu Panda and rub his legs and feet. I give him lots of kisses and make him laugh.
Wii and push pops :) Always gets them in a good mood and their minds off what is going on. If not, Nickelodeon is always next, SpongeBob makes everyone happy.
enter me please, thank you for the contest
They snuggle up on the couch with their favorite blanket, and a popsicle seems to help too.
I rub Vicks on their chest at night and let it work its magic.
When either of my little girls are not feeling well, we gather up every stuffed animal in the house, put on our comfiest PJ's and lay with each other on the couch. My younger baby burrows into my chest, and the older one usually policies the "babies" so none fall off. I hate when either of them are sick, but I love all the snuggling and relaxing we get to do!
We watch TV, sleep, lots of fluids and hugs
I set them up on the couch with their pillow and comforter and pop whatever movie they want in. 9 times out of ten they're asleep before the movie is halfway started.
Since my son is at the under 2 mark and the recommendation is not to use Vicks on their chest until they are older, the wonder cure all I have found is putting it on their feet and putting socks on over the vicks and it helps to clear them up practically overnight!!!!
I have a fluffy bathrobe that my daughter thinks is magic. I put it on and she burrows into it and rubs her face against it and cuddles on me for hours.
A silly song just for them always helps and saying,"I see a smile sneaking up the corner of your lips" never fails to make a sometimes reluctant smile to appear!
What's better than TLC???
chicken noodle soup and movies on the couch, its the best way!
Slumber parties on the couch. Tons of pillows, blankets, their choice in tv or movies. And an endless supply of jello cups.
A special bankie, lots of love, Vicks (seriously, if I forget it my mom always says, "Did you Vicks her?" and chicken broth.
Tea with milk and honey/butter toast while they're on the couch with blankets and pillows and watching movies.
We love to have (honey and lemon) in warm water as a tonic. That, and chicken soup have cured many a common ache-y cold and sore throat. While the benefits of AirBourne fizzies have helped my kids as teens, the child in them has been healed with a hug, back or foot rub, and the honey. Much of the distress of a sore throat is just irritation from breathing through the mouth all night, so the honey cure is really good for getting them off to a happier start in the morning.
Nice cup of hot tea and their favorite DVD
Fluffed up pillows, their favorite blanket, fav DVD and chicken noodle soup, & popsickles
I sing a song--it's my own version of "Close To You" ("Why do birds, suddenly appear..."), but I change it to reflect my daughter's brown hair and brown eyes. She's loved it since she was little and she calls it 'her' song!
Watch their favorite movie on the couch in pajamas with them.
Soup, TV and lounging on the couch
when i was little, it was always vicks vaborub and hot milk with honey. always made me feel better. I do the same for my kids!!1
Physically, I have always found that a popsicle covers a multitude of problems. Emotionally--I'm thinking of how I soothed my son after 9-11--reading to a child will always calm.
When our kids have a sore throat, I get them a Slurpee. It is a good way to sneak some fluids into them, but more importantly it is SO soothing on their sore throat. Also, it cheers them up a little, because they think they are being pampered and getting a special treat!
Hot bath, soup and mom's love
A warm blanket, the couch, a pillow, head in my lap rubbing her back.
Chicken Soup, vaporizer, and a book, usually helps. Thanks for a great giveaway!
A hot bath and then afterward her favorite dvd and snack usually perks her right back up.
Comic books, video games, and plenty of hugs!
Chicken noodle soup and lots of pillows with their favorite shows on tv.
My son likes when I let him have his own cup of tea with lemon juice and honey and he drinks it in the bathtub. After a massage with lotion he gets to lay down in my bed and he likes when I rub his forhead and sing his song.
I let my daughter crawl in bed with me and we watch funny cat movies on YouTube and I let her sip flat ginger ale.
Holding and gently comforting. Love helps all.
Hot tea, chicken soup, and lots of love.
There is mothing like Vicks when your sick. When I can't breathe, always put a dab under my nose, it seems almost like magic.
Apply Vicks to chest and back between the shoulders (under the chin and nose if trying to rest/sleep), lots of chicken noodle soup and hold and rock them to let them know that I can feel their pain and trying to take it away.
we drink honey/lemon tea with honey which coats the throat. popsicles work too.
My favorite remedy is steam and Vicks Vaporub it worked with me and my siblings 50 years ago and it worked for my kids 30 years ago. My Dad would apply the Vicks and cover it with cheesecloth and secretly buy us schraffe lollipops my favorite was rootbeer. Now with high tech everything and not enough time in the day it's working for my grandchildren. High tech can't compete with the trusted pruduct of Vicks and a Mothers love. I use to keep a secret stash of special crayons and coloring books to pass the time in the steamy bathroom coloring!
Chicken noodle soup, snuggling, and applying vicks to chest
good ol chicken noodle soup, and lots of love. lots of rest too
Hot tea with honey cures all!
besides totally coddling them, i used to have them hold my finger and shoot their pain into me. i would wiggle and squeak in pain, they would laugh and by some miracle, their pain would'nt be so bad or gone completely. my kids are grown now, and my oldest does the same for her daughter. it's something we three, have a smile about.
l rub vicks on the their chest and give them lemon and hot water
I rub vicks on their chest
We cuddle on the couch. Watch a good movie. Offer Vernor's ginger ale and slather on the vicks which is a product the girls couldn't live without.
I like to rub vicks on their chest when they go to bed.
I let them sleep in our rooms and watch movies in their bed!
Snuggling together under a blanket -- getting them to nap. Thanks for a great contest!
I rock him or show him himself in the mirror.
I give them lots of love, Vitamin C and chicken soup.
My 5 year old just wants me near, to rub his back or keep my hand on his leg as he lays on the couch.
I sing to my nephew when he gets sick and until he got too big to carry, I would dance (very gently) with him in my arms. That usually put him to sleep.
I remember having vicks rubbed on me from when I was a child. I rub it on Gracie's chest too.
i use a humidifier at nite and keep eye on humidy in house.
I rub vicks on the bottom of her feet
My boy is sick with a nasty cold. I put some eucalyptus in a vaporizer to ease his breathing at night. I made him a pot of my homemade chicken soup and have upped all of the antioxidants (zinc, Ester-C, E.) Provided I don't get it, this cold should be history in a few days tops!
Right now, our little one is sick. I make sure to keep her close by if there is a fever so she gets to sleep and snuggle with us. Also she gets lots of juice (watered down), the cold cloth on the face and fruit. Another little ritual we have developed is that Mama usually gets sick too! lol! That way I can really sympathize with her pain!
We use vicks vaposteam in the humidifier at night for stuffy noses and snuggle a lot!
I always just loved having my head rubbed.
snuggle and love them and some warm hot soup and warm sugar lemon water and orange juice for vitamin C
I like to hold my kids close to me and sing them a song or read to them a funny or amusing story.
"Thanks for this great promotion"!
VICKS HOT CHOCOLATE CHICKEN NOODLE SOUP A FIRE GOING IN THE FIREPLACE AND A GOOD BOOK!
In our house, we curl up in the bed and read books. We also do the familiar Chicken Noodle Soup routine. Lots of cuddles and medicine eventually ward off the cough.
When my children are sick with a cold I make them juice from fresh organic fruits and vegitables. When they are bored and seeking my attention on a daily basis I find that roughing them up and barking at them and whooping on them works good. I may snatch them up by one arm and one leg and spin them around or pick them up by their legs and swing them back and forth between my legs then toss them in the air and catch them upright. Pillow fights usually invoke laughter. With older kids letting them whoop up on me works really good to release some of their frustrations of being small or carrying them on my shoulders where they can be bigger than everybody else for a change brightens their spirits. Sometimes we turn the radio on and dance like fools and see who can do the corniest move. Anything to bring smiles.
Prop their bed up so their head is elevated- it does help. My mom always used Vicks on our chests and throats when we were little, and we continue to use it for our daughter and when we ourselves are sick. Thank you.
I let my little ones "camp out" on the sofa in the living room in front of the big television, and I let them watch whatever they like while I give them all my attention.
Rent a movie that they want to see. Grab their pillows and blankets from their bed and snuggle with them.
Chicken noodle soup and a nice soft warm blanket make my children feel better.
We've been fighting colds for the last few weeks and then last week the girls came down with the flu. Soups, hot chocolate or sprite, snuggle time, and a Vick's Vaposteam pulled us through!
It depends on the situation, but some of the things are reading to them, making soup or hot chocolate, singing songs, playing board games or cards, group naps, and lots of hugs
Both of my boys have been suffering from a horrible cold this past week. I give them lots or snuggles and makes sure they get lots of sleep. I also give them chicken noodle soup, the best home remedy around.
play an easy game when cartoons and movies get boring. put vicks on their feets and cover them with socks!
We like to watch funny cartoons and snuggle together ... a little ice cream helps, too!
A little extra love and a special movie
Careful listening, warm hugs, words of assurance - a good combination whether a young person is ill or just going through a bad time.
I find movies they would like to watch, and keep them on to amuse them.
A good movie helps to get the little ones mind off being sick and a lot of warm liquids helps the physical healing process!
We lay in bed together and read or watch movies. The cats come up on the bed and it's a calm and healing snugglefest!
I let them lay in my bed and we read books or talk.
Humor! Nothing heals like laughter.
Trash can, tissue box, movie, blanket and a cuddle on the couch. All of Moms love.
I listen to their problems or concerns and give lots of love and hugs.
I listen and give hugs ....
Talk and be there for them. That's always good medicine to start with.
I use Vicks Vapor Rub too.
I made up a song to sing to my child while little.
When my daughter was little, I would sing to her!
We used to get all nice and comfy on the couch and read or watch a movie. And never forgot the chicken soup; it always helps. Thank you!
While they were little, they loved to be rocked and cuddled when they didn't feel well--for the younger one that was about the only time she stayed still enough to cuddle!
lay in bed and snuggle and watch tv.
Cuddle and watch a movie together. Make 'em a special snack. Just help them know they are loved and give them extra attention :)
My grandbabies always having stories read to them, so I make up tales incorporating them into the action. They giggle and love it and forget for a while that they are miserable.
Plenty of fluids, Vitamin C, a fresh box of kleenex, fluffy pillows and a big blanket, lots of soup, and best of all, the remote in their hand ;) They love that. Thanks!
I do several things to make the boys feel better when they're sick. I make them a big, fluffy bed on the couch, complete with their favorite video games, toys, books, and stuffed monkey(my 7 year old is a huge Curious George fan). I cook up some homemade chicken noodle soup, bake their favorite cookies, and make a couple of gallons of their favorite sparkling punch. For bathtime I add some eucalytus oil to their bath water and when they're finished, I dress them in warm pajamas. My most favorite thing to do when they're sick is to snuggle them in my arms until they fall fast asleep.
My kids just want to be with me, so I try to lay with them as much as I can.
Oh! And also tissues with lotion!
I make home-made chicken soup, set up the humidifier, put us both in warm jammies and snuggle under the blankie.
Bring their pillow and blanket to the sofa, and make a comfortable place for them to snuggle into while reading some favorite stories to them.
Curling up under the blankets and watching a favorite movie.
A medicated humidifier, some Vicks rubbed on their chest, fresh jammies and a soft blanket to cuddle with, cartoons on and some some tea with honey and a few crackers too.
Put on a movie they like and let them snuggle on the couch with a warm blanket.
If congested, a medicated humidifier is good. Clean linens, jammies and warm tea with honey
my little ones love to be tucked in on the couch in front of the tv. I alwasy bring down their pillow from the bed upstairs.
Each day of their illness, I put clean, fresh sheets on their beds so that they can sleep better.
Old cartoons and snuggling on the couch!
I cuddle up with them on the recliner and love on them real good!
Humidifier, cuddles and lots of books work wonders. Thanks for the giveaway.
Ginger Ale with crushed ice makes a sore throat feel better. Besides all of the medical treatments, a lot of hugs and quiet play will get you both through it.
Hot water with honey and lemon.
For a congested baby who isn't drinking much due to the congestion, I had a lot of success with feeding my baby while she was in a warm, relaxing bath. The warm bath opened up her stuffed up nose and the water relaxed her enough and I felt good knowing she wasn't getting dehydrated.
I use my Clorox Disinfecting Wipes on everything, to keep us from infecting the grandkids we babysit, and vice-versa.
My little ones are all grown and gone.
Books, movies, a cool drink and snuggling!
Weak tea and butter toast, just like my Mom gave me!
Lots of blankets, cuddles, and a humidifier in the bedroom.
Make sure they are all cuddled up and read to them. I love Vicks-works wonders!
I use the menthol vapor plug ins. They really work wonders.
Rest, chicken soup, and lots of hugs.
we cuddle and watch movies
Plenty of rest, fluids and grilled cheese sandwiches w/ tomato soup.
My mom used vicks on me and I used it on my son and now use it when my grandchildren have a cold or the flu. After a nice chest rub and my grandchild is all snuggly warm they like a light fingertip back rub to help them get to sleep.
Definitely all the important care stuff, chicken soup, vicks vaporub on chest and back, plenty of juices, but most importantly fun stuff, like comic books, playing board games, video games and building a tent or fort to bring the outdoors inside!
I make sure they drink plenty of fluids and I always make soup for them.
Wow, my little ones are all grown now but I know I always did the essential things to help them with their symptoms, i.e., fever control, cool compresses, back rubs, steaming them in bathroom, etc. Mostly though I just babied and coddled them and held them a lot and just tried to keep them comfortable so their little bodies could rest and fight the illness. My kids are now 40, 28, 26 and 25 and even to this day, whenever they get sick, they call me and let me know they want their momma cause they don't feel good. In case you are wondering; yes, I talk babytalk to them stil!
It just said they could not process my comment, to try again, but I see it in the comment section..Do I need to do it again ????
When my children were small, the favorite night ritual was a story and a "tickle back" ...my daughter was especially taken with this. She was my first born and so she started this little routine and later it passed on to her little brother. She would lie in her big girl bed, Mommy cuddled and hanging on for dear life as not to fall out, and I would tickle her little back as she took her tickle blanket(receiving blanket) and tickled her nose. It got to the point that I would crawl on my hands and knees out of her room once she fell asleep because if she caught me it was a marathon! Oh how I cherish those times, the quiet, the smell of their freshly washed hair, the innocence..this routine double once her little brother caught on LOL what a wonderful time it was...
wow wow wow the goodies i could get with this prize... man. As for comforting kids, I don't have any... but I'll say "give em some love". :)
We cuddle and read books in bed.
A steamy shower with a vapor tablet to help ease the congestion before they go to bed.
I have a spa day. I make them feel better with a special bath of scented soap. I paint their toe and finger nails; give them a message and then I read to them. I also make comfort foods such as chicken and noodles, rice, and fruit salad.
great prize.. could use this on my niece and nephew !
I don't have little ones, but my mother always made me chai. If I had a sore throat, I got a sip of brandy.
My kids are all grown now, but I always used Vicks on their chests & under their noses. I still use it to this day, it helps me breathe at night!
Mt kids are grown now but I always rubbed their chests with Vicks Vapo Rub and it always helped them breathe better.
I make them fresh squeezed orange juice and keep them in bed.
Xylitol nasal spray, humidifier and tons of liquds
Reading to them until they fall asleep under their snuggly blanket.
Put a spoonful of Vicks VapoRub in a pot with water and put it on the stove and let it boil. The steam will fill the room and the Vicks open the passageways as it's inhaled.
I dont have kids but I have nieces and nephews and I have taken care of them when they are sick.. Usually If it is a cold I rub their chests with vicks of course.. Also they love massages.. I massage their backs and shoulders and they usually fall asleep.. Of course when they are sick they get whatever they want..tv etc ..As their aunt I spoil them!
I give my son Tyler Tylenol and Mucinex fast melts and he likes chicken noodle soup the Campbell's soup at hand .
I sit with them when they need me to....they like to stay on the couch and watch TV or I read to them. And almost always I make chicken soup.....they love it! I've been told not to make it fun or they'll fake it just for the attention....but it doesn't happen here. They don't ask to stay home when they're not ill.
I don't have my own kids, but as a teacher I see kids feeling down with colds often. I like to give them a cool compress for their forehead or back of the neck. If they really have the FLU, and not a cold, I send them home!!
I don't have kids, but I'd buy them pretty things
I find that tea with honey, stream from a shower and no dairy products foe at least the first day that my daughter has a cold always helps her cope with a nasty cold. Chicken soup couldn't hurt, either!
I don't have kids, but I watch my neice all the time. I find that just asking her how she is and listening to her seems to he\lp
My boy just got over a cold and earache. I used Vicks (just like my grandma did), sat in the steamy bathroom with him, propped him up in bed and rubbed his little legs until he fell asleep. Then I had a glass of wine!
When my kids are sick which isn't often thank goodness, I give them home-made chicken noodle soup with crackers ,and let them snuggle under the blankets with their pillow on the couch, then I put on there favorite movie on the tv or dvd. and give them lots of hugs
I think just getting their mind off not feeling well will help. Nothing takes their mind off problems, or feeling not-so-well, as getting them to laugh, at a joke or a silly story!
When my kids are not feeling well those freeze pops usually cheer them up. The kids usually watch funny cartoons with us on the couch.
I usually give my kids a bath then send them to bed, plus lots of fluids and vitamin C!
I learned a long time ago not to give my kids any diet 7up or anything diet when they are sick.
If it's tummy upset, then gingerale and crackers, followed by popsicles!! If it's a headcold, then homemade chicken soup, and they're allowed to curl up on the couch under a blankie to watch tv...
I make them chicken noodle soup.
A warm blanket and soft couch to lie on while sipping a hot cup of peppermint tea does wonders.
I've always done a number of things when my daughter has been sick. One thing is singing "You Are My Sunshine" to her... it's always been a favorite. Sometimes I read to her. She's always liked that even from the time she was a toddler. I load movies for her to watch and try to think of foods (like the good old chicken soup standby) that she'll be able to eat. Otherwise I just stick around and see if she needs anything or wants to do anything together.
gingerale and a special place on the couch to watch tv
We have a special quilt that is red and has mickey mouses all over it. Whenever the kids are sick, they get to use the "special quilt". They really love this and find great comfort with being able to use the special quilt. Sometimes our middle son, even fakes being sick, just to use the quilt. lol
Thanks so much.
I buy my son ginger ale, saltine crackers, oyster crackers, and comic books to pass the time while he's sick. I think he enjoys being home with mom, I love him so much. I'd do anything for him!
i bundle my son up in blankets and offer him alot of food and put him on a movie
I put on a dvd of the Wiggles and we bebop all over the house. Also, lots of junk food.
One of the first things that my husband bought after he found out I was pregnant was a rocking chair. Litttle did I know how often it would be used during the night -- my daughter was a fussy sleeper and rocking her was the only thing that seemed to calm her.
Sing Julie Andrews song: " That... a...
Spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down
The medicine go do--own
The medicine go down
Just a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down
In a most delightful way"
I can't sing, so that makes it funnier. I admit, if they're up to it I let them watch TV.
hoowee what i could do with that card....
I always climbed in bed with my girls and sang familar songs to them.
I always have a pot of home made chicken soup simmering on the stove. The extra moisture in the air that comes from the soup helps. Chicken soup and vicks always worked for me.
When I was younger, my mom would always rock me to sleep. She would even lay down on my bed and sing to me. It was so soothing!
My children are grown up now, but when they were young I would bathe their foreheads with a cool, wet cloth and make them special meals. I would read them stories and play board games with them to entertain them and take their mind off being sick. They always enjoyed the extra attention.
Children are either sensory-seeking or sensory-avoidant, and illness magnifies these feelings. In infancy, either they are snuggle-bunnies or gentle-touch-me, but-not-too-much, babies. When sick, clue into how much tactile (touch), they can tolerate (blankets, p.j.’s, or your arms around them), proprioceptive (how they feel in space, (more secure on a couch, or snuggled safely in a bed), and vestibular (movement) they can tolerate, such as whether activity, such as rocking chair, will make them feel more ill or calm them. Also, consider lights, noise, and colors as possible stressors. Reducing these may help either kind of child.
I dance like a maniac to whatever noise-making toy my son manages to trigger. The result is always riotous laughter and although not terribly long-lasting this is a good way to distract him from any discomfort.
I dance like a maniac to whatever noise-making toy my son manages to trigger. The effect is always riotous laughter and although not terribly long lasting this always brings a smile to his face.
I don't have kids, but when I have my nieces and nephews, and one of them is sick, it always makes them feel better to "camp out" in the living room. We make tents out of blankets, watch movies, and eat chicken noodle soup. O also make sure to keep Vaporub on their chests, and have them drink lots of OJ.
I try to let them get plenty of rest and fluids. They really like the popsicles when they are sick.
When my children were little and I was much younger, it was so hard for me to see them ill. Babies can't communicate in words so crying is their only way. I had to learn what the cries meant. It was trial and error but I figured them out. The cry for I want you to hold me. The cry for I am thristy. I guess what I learned was to listen to my children. Love them, hydrate, cuddle, sing or whatever it took. That is what a mom does for her baby.
When my kids were sick (and now when my grandson is) I find that if you a) make them comfy (like fresh pj's, a nice cool washcloth, something to drink, etc.) and b) cuddle, they feel so much better.
I snuggle up with the kids under a nice warm blanket and watch tv with them, it always makes them feel happier and in better spirits even when they are sick.
I agree with other commenters... when i was younger, vicks vaporub and snuggling under a nice warm blanket worked when I was sick and it works for my kids now.
I use a special acupressure technique, called EFT, with my 15 month old daughter. It involves gently tapping on a series of acupoints (spots on your body stimulated in acupressure and acupuncture) on her face and torso, while I sing a special rhyme called "Tommy Tinker". So I gently tap at the beginning of her eyebrow and say "EyeWinker" - then by the side of her eye and say" Tommy Tinker", then under the eye "Nose dropper", under the nose "chin chopper", on the chin "Mouth Eater", then the knobby part of her collarbone and lots of tickles while saying "got you"!! It works wonders because its fun and also balances the energy system at the same time!
my son loves to be held and rocked back and forth by myself or his father. he cracks a smile here and there when we sing him his favorite songs, such as "row, row, row your boat" or "itsy bitsy spider". he tends to forget how bad he feels and joins in on the motions. a bottle and one of his favorite blankies also soothes him if he's sick or has just had a meltdown.
Lots of cuddling, warm baths and tea with Honey. It seems to do the trick everytime. Even at 13 and 14 my kids love the extra attention when they are sick.
As a single mom of 2 amazing girls, I make it a priority to make time to sit down, just before bed when it's quiet and calm and talk about anything that may be troubling them. I can usually tell when something is bothering one of them and they don't want to talk about it at the dinner table. This is an amazing way to bond with your child and let the stresses of the day float away before settling into a good night's sleep. They will remember these chats as they grow older and start having kids of their own.
I give my kids multivitamin/mineral supplements daily. During the winter I also give them vitamin C powdered crystals mixed with water, juice or straight onto their tongue. They have not had a cold or the flu in years. If I even think they are getting the sniffles I make a homemade stock of chicken soup, rub them down at night (on the bottom of their feet only) with a vapor rub and cover with socks. This ounce of prevention works everytime. They have not missed one day of school in the last seven years! Works for me!
My magic medicine is Sally the Camel. I have sung this son to my son since he was first born and for some reason it is the only song that will stop him from crying, whinning, screaming, whatever. When he is not feeling well we cuddle on the couch and I hold him tight and sign Sally the Camel while stroking his hair. This relaxes him so that I am able to give him his breathing treatment and other medications. Thank God for Sally!!
The best picker-upper ever invented was "magic butterscotch" candy. They could cure any ailment, whether real or imagined; from a scrape on the knee, to monsters under the bed, and even the sniffles. I first discovered their magical effects when Hannah was 5, and had lost her favourite toy, Huggles. Hannah was inconsolable, and after half an hour of being tortured by her lamenting sighs and tears; I thought I'd try giving her a Butterscotch candy. At first she refused, but after urging on my part, and my telling her that these weren't ordinary candies, they were "magical ones" she reluctantly agreed to try it. Within a few minutes the wailing stopped. But, there's more to tell. Once Hannah had calmed down, she began to search for Huggles, this time calmly though. Huggles was found less than ten minutes later. All was well in her world. The next time she was distressed, she got another magic Butterscotch. It worked too. Magic Butterscotch candies became a Staple in our pantry.
My daughter is just getting over the flu this week. But last week, when it started, it was an ultimate disaster. She was not able to sleep at night and I spent most of the night awake and up. I remember when I was younger, my mom was rub these chinese oils on my chest and the cooling and minty sensation was very comfortable and put me back to sleep, so remembering this, I tried that with my daughter. It worked. She was still sick, but I think she was a little more comfortable.
It's a parental team effort when our daughters are sick. Daddy makes the best hot tea in the world (I think it has lots of sugar and milk) and I give big hugs, lay in bed with them, and stroke their hair. The hair stroking relaxes them and the hot tea soothes them at the same time. If one of us is out-of-town, the girls will complain about the "Team Parent" shortage!
Just like most kids when he's sick, my little one only wants Mama. I sleep next to him and wake up in the night to find him using my back, my head, or whatever works at the moment as his pillow. If I find him not sleeping on top of me and sneak away, he wakes up and calls for me within 20 min. We also have lots of songs where I substitute his name for lyrics. I hope they'll always remind him of his Mama's love and feel better, even after he learns the 'real' words in school or camp.
Singing my daughters favorite socks seems to do the trick. Thank goodness we took that mom/baby Music Pups class when she was 4 months old as it taught me every lullaby tune I know. (And no, I don't work for the company-it was just a fun class to do with an infant.)
I like to take my daughters who are both teenagers one at a time out for a special dinner, especially when they are feeling stressed or down in some way, they choose the place (within reason of course) and then we can talk about anything or nothing at all, it gives them the feeling of importance in my life to have set aside a special time, place just for them .Nothing does a better job of lifting ones spirits than a good meal shared with those you love. I call it comfort food with Mom!
Our daughter is 12, now. So, the times of her "sharing" with me are fewer than when she was younger:) That's the blessing of sick days. She gets tucked into our king sized bed and she and I play board games, all day! We may even break out the coloring books. And we TALK:)! It's WONDERFUL! I'm not sure who feels better in the end - our daughter or me:)
mine just like to snuggle and lay low. I think putting things aside and laying on the couch under a blanket and just talking about silly things is the best dose of medicine when my little ones are down and out. They like to have me close, they just ramble on and on, and next thing you know they're snoozing away!
Comforting a kid in my house means adding the extra ingredient in everything. Chicken soup with extra love and a few more noodles added to the can mix from our own package. Reading a book with extra love on a soft lap and warm arms to hug tight. Grabbing a blanket and stuffed animal with extra love from a quick spin in the clothing dryer. Making a cup of tea with honey and extra love in a mug that has a crazy straw that takes the ouch out of little sips of warmth in the throat. Going to sleep with the extra love of a mommy who knows how to wrap her body and heart around any boo-boo or just a little body that needs them a lot now and every day too.
i find in order to find out how to confort your child, is to think like a child. children have wonderfull imaginations and i remember when grandchildren were small we would imagine driving a car and suddenly an elephant jumps out in front of you. each time i played this game with my grandson the animal would be different, and we have to slam on our brakes to avoid hitting it. i would be a lot of drams in it so he actually could imagine it. we would get a blanket and put it over a table and pretend we were camping, it gave a lot of quality time together, to discuss whatever her wanted to know. he was always the type of child that craved knowledge, i would try to answer the questions the best way i could.when he started hockey and found it hard to learn how to stop on the ice, i would tell him anything in life worth wanting is worth trying for. always tell your children you love them and you will be there for them no matter what. they grow up fast so let them know you are there for them
I talk, yes, that is it. It works in the car, it works at the doctor, it works at home, it works anywhere. What do I say. Well distraction is where I am going, but I start with where they are, You do not feel good? Those germs are making you sneeze, but they will make you stronger when you wake up in the morning. I talked for the first 6 years solid. I would start talking about the galaxies, if they started to get bored on a long drive. No, they did not know what a galaxy was, but I was sure ready to explain it. Yes, there are entire worlds out there just like this one, with little boys driving around with their mother, looking for a McDonalds right now up in the sky. Did I lie, maybe, but who knows? They did not know, but after we found McDonalds, they did not care. Especially usefull in any stressfull situation, just start that melodic trance inducing sing songy voice, and take them on a little voyage to another place in their mind, they will follow.
I remember my mom rubbing Vicks on my chest when I was a little girl. Now it helps soothe my worried mind when I can rub Vicks on my little girl, and it helps soothe her to get a little massage and lots of snuggling and lots of kisses.
My girl´s only 18-months old and so far the best remedy has been to give her love and offer my arms all day and night. To help her sleep better night, I rub her chest and her feet with Vick´s, just like my mom did to us, and turn on the humidifier. I´ve tried snuggling in bed with her when she has a fever, but she´s just too restless-even when sick!
When I have a sick baby, I just hold them. That seems to be what they want most of all. Sometimes it's hard to put down what I'm doing and give them the attention they crave, but I try to really treasure those moments because I know they will be too big to want to be held before I know it!
I make my special homemade soup and then sing a silly song which always makes them smile called Mama's Soup Suprise ("It has chicken lips and lizard hips and alligator eyes -- monkey legs and buzzard eggs and salamander thighs -- rabbit ears and camel rears and tasty toemail pies. Put it all together and its Mama's soup surprise." ) It gets a chorus of gross and yuck, but they always laugh and it seems to make them feel better.
Since my oldest is 14 - he doesnt "need" his mommy anymore ( according to him!) when he is sick. But with my little girl I put the vicks under her nose, load her up on OJ and let her in my bed to watch TV with me all day and night. It makes us BOTH feel better!
I have a sick day routine now that all my kids are in school (girls, 10 and 13; and boy, 5):
- TV in the morning in familyroom
- Nap/resttime in the afternoon in bedroom
- Sick child gets couch, bed pillow, large bottle of water, blanket, and control of remote
- No wii, DS, or PS2 games while home sick -- if you are well enough for games you need to go to school
- I will bring in foods on a try at breakfast time and lunchtime
- I prepare foods I think are good for sickness. I avoid dairy and heavy flavored items. Soup, crackers, dried cereal in a cuip, cutup fruit, apple sauce
- If vomiting I will cover couch with a large towel and bring out the lastic tub that the children were bathed in in the hospital nursery. I keep everything!
- A doctor's visit is done if child is sick with high fever, sore throat, excessive vomiting
Sick day policies at the Musings from Me household.

What i do to make him happy is i carry him ,
put him on my back,
kiss buy him any thind i can afford,
make him a cup of tea
ask how the day was
what he was doing
how was school
help him colouring
help him counting
tell him jokes
To make my little one feel better...
I hold him snug , I wrap him warm,
I talk to him softly, I keep him calm,
I whisper to him, You're a silly goose!
I make him smile, I read Dr. Seuss,
I snort and I sniffle, we like to laugh,
I sneeze like an elephant, I do a magic gaff,
I make him soup, I use some Vicks,
I write his name backwards, I mess up card tricks,
Most of all, I am silly and I 'm there,
No doubt about it, in funny voices, i care,
And with Vicks on little Vic,
In just a little while
We're both feeling better....
He's sleeping with a smile.

for my little christian I bather him in the Johnson's wash with vpor rub in it,continue with a vapor rub massage, and top it off wth the Vick's Vapor mist. My little guy wants to be loved extra so between my husband and I it extra hugs and rocking in the chair. My husand was injured in Iraq so when the baby is down it is like having double duty.
When my children are sick, it's lots of hugs, tea with lemon and plenty of affection. For my children, knowing that they are loved is the best medicine. We use a smidge of Vick's for chest congestion and cough syrup if needed, but there is nothing like the warm feeling of knowing they are loved and cared for. My children are very independent and free spirits, so when a cold or sore throat knocks them down. Having Mom around perks them up. (Good home cooking helps too).
I grew up with Vicks Vapor Rub and chicken soup for comfort. With my kids I now use the Vicks plug in and jello and ice pops to help soothe the throat issue. Honestly each kid is different and depending on which symptoms need to be handled differently. My son could get involved in reading or videos and wait it out while my daughter needs a more handson attention. Fortunately they seldom got sick at the same time. My real issue was when hubby and I both came down with a bug.
Well I have 3 kids. If only 1 is sick at a time I will have their granny watch the other 2 for awhile until dad comes home because I lay on the couch with them put in a movie or watch cartoons on cable. We talk and I will tell them stories about when they were babies because they seem to like that. I also eat the same things they do so they don't see me eating different foods. Strickly 7 up and chicken noodle soup. They think that is awesome that mommy eats like them. If there are 2 or the whole 3 that are sick I do the same thing I just move the tv to my bedroom (because the cable for the cable is very long) and I lay on my bed and we all just lay together. Only 2 times though can I remember all of them getting sick together. Mostly one a time.
I try to keep their minds off of how they feel. We play games, use puppets, read stories....I even let the tv get turned on. And soup is a must. And orange juice is a must. And Vicks Vapor Rub is always a must at night. After a warm bath, VaporRub gets put on their chest and off to bed they go.
I keep the Princesses bundled up in warm jammies. Offer lots of liquid and easy to swallow soft foods. Give the appropriate cough/cold medicine. Slather their chests w/ Vicks vaporub. Tuck them into my bed and let them watch their favorite movies or just cuddle with them.
I get a stack of favorite movies and park the kids on the couch with big portions of homemade oj popsicles, ginger ale, vicks vaporub, and zinc lollipops. At night, I give them whatever medicine is appropriate and put a diffuser in their room with lavender, camphor, menthol and other essential oils to quiet the coughs. I also put all my work on hold to hold them when they feel like it. Rest, liquids, and wait-it-out.
I give my daughter Children's Echinacea. It boosts her immune system and helps her get over her cold faster.
after reading all the submissions theres scarsly more to say, nontheless i will say that it is comforting to view.
it has been my exsperence as i am a granmother of five and due to a recent tragic loss, i find myself a gardeain to her three little ones. they are ajusting and the little one16 months old is vigerous and active but has runny and coughing. my way of treatment is to keep him warm,so long as theres no fever;and administer the nessisary meds. makeing lemon tea with fresh lemons for vitamin c boost and honey for cough and energy really has never failed me; using a weak tea(orange pokea) or any herbal for the older children is perferrd,it gives a boost of energy fa active play vapor rub is an old family friend i apply to the chest of the older children before bed when needed. unfortunetly crankiness is a sympton (16 mon. old) when coupled with teething, so much cuddling is at hand. as a finaly we speak in prayer for ourselves and others who maybe suffering the same symptons.
extra cuddle time with Mommy, staying in pjs all day, where we read special books sure to brighten even the gloomiest/sickest days..
I have 3 beautiful daughters; Tiffany 21, Holly 15, and Sydni 8.....and 1 precious granddaughter; Payton Elizabeth. When one of my girls get a cold, they always get that kind of cough that goes so deep in their chest... The kind that makes a persons' stomach sore from coughing. My two youngest daughters have had coughs so bad that they would vomit from coughing so hard. The best thing that I have found that really suppresses that type of cough is not only the Vicks Vaporub on the chest and neck, but I have found that if you put the Vicks Vaporub all over the bottom of the feet, and then place clean white socks on their feet while they sleep, that the cough almost immediately stops. Everyone knows that at night, when everyone is trying to get some sleep, that is when the coughing seems to be at its worst. I assure you, if you will try this, you will be amazed at the results!!!!!!!!!
Lots of fluids, chicken soup, a humidifier, nasal saline solution, washing hands, extra blankets and a little Vicks makes a cold feel better.
We huddle up on the couch and watch movies, while the sick one rests up!
I think you just treat the symptoms to make them more comfortable. Popsicles for sore throats and fevers, soups and jello and plenty of their favorite liquids helps soothe mine. I also use some over-the-counter things like Tylenol and Motrin and a steamy shower helps clear those stuffy noses. We have also used the Vicks rub with the older ones and it works well. Of course, if they have high fevers or seem really ill, it's time for a trip to the pediatrician. Janet
I let the family dog sleep with them. It helps offset the yucky feelings.
Ironic I found this through Suburban Turmoil's blog and I love VapoRub when the boys are sick. I love the smell of it too, lol. I give them all the attention they want and need. I baby them, give them medicine and lots of love
When one of my kids get a cold or cough, (in fact, my daughter has both right now), I love to use Vicks on their feet and cover with socks. The rest of the time we spend "resting", playing card games & board games with Mom. Going up & down the stairs all day, bringing water and snacks, takes the place of my gym workout!
When my kids are not feeling well, we like to snuggle up on the couch and watch a movie while sipping hot chocolate and soup.
I always love to give my nephew all kinds of things I find at the library, online as well as stuff unable to be sold at drop-off auction stores.
When my babies are feeling sick they just want to be held and have their backs rubbed. In the evenings before they go to bed they have a warm bath and then I lotion them from head to toe to help the aches go away. A little Vick's vapor rub on their chest and some warm pajamas and they are ready for bed.
When our little grandchildren feel blue, I love to take them to the park of their choice with my camera and catch pictures that will be irreplacable some day. They love looking at pictures of themselves, and I make each one of them an album, adding to it when we have more pictures. They can remember a lot of good times and feel special too. The 2nd thing they like to do, in case of rain, is go to the library and pick out a book and a movie, just what they like. Then we snuggle on the couch in front of the fire and read, pop popcorn and look at movies.
When my kids were little and feeling sick they wanted to be close by and not alone in thier rooms. Letting them llay on the living room couch made it easier to keep an eye on them also.. I'd get out the' "special' pillow and mimi quilt, cover the couch with a colorful sheet and they felt special. At night they were tucked into their own bed and the 'special'' pillow.quilt and sheet were thrown into the washer with bleach and the couch was relatively germ free after a spray down with lysol spray.
Pajamas, a stack of books, and vaporizer. And for a special treat- we get out the baby videos and they can watch themselves-- which they love!
We use tons of Vicks in this house, when the kids are sick I put it on there chest and then put them in a nice warm shower to really get the full benefit of the "vapors". They love it and then when you leave the steamed up bathroom it gives you that little window of time where you nose will clear up and it is usually just long enough to get them back to sleep. I have also rubbed in on their feet and covered with socks to calm the coughing. But my latest favorite use of Vicks is to rub some on my forehead when I have a really bad headache, it makes me feel so much better.
Humidifier, nice warm jammies, Vicks on the feet, and lots of snuggle time in the rocking chair. Can't hurt, and seems to always help!
I use something my Mom always did for me. Isopropyl Alcohol rubs. When my kids are sick, they love this so much that they'll actually use the step stool to get down the bottle (and even tho they're not supposed to) and bring me the bottle, saying "Rubby rubby, will make me better!" I also use the Vicks in the little receptical in a humidifier so they're whole room is a soothing haven for them. It's usually a good bet that lying in their room, alcohol rubbed and breathing in the healing fumes, they'll fall straight away to sleep even without any night time medicine. It's a wonder!
I kind of have a routine for my son when he's not feeling well. It consists of flat 7-up, vapor rub on his chest, lots of fresh water to drink to keep hydrated, and a back rub to help him feel better Oh did I mention that he's 18 now? this has been going on for years and years and he still wants the same treatment every time he's sick.. wants his Mom.
I turn up the heat full blast and try to trick our bodies into thinking it's not winter!
I try to leave sugar out of their diet when they are sick. Just natural ones from juice. The Vicks Vapor Rub really makes a big difference and helps them get the must needed sleep!
I know this may sound crazy, but it does work. If your little one is doing alot of coughing and is congested rub Vicks on the bottom of their feet and cover with socks before putting them to bed.
Lots of orange juice... that vitamin C really seems to help!
My mom always used to rub Vicks on my throat, back, etc... In addition to that, hot chicken noodle soup and tea seems to make things well in this house. Oh, and lots of rest!
Lots of rest and a stack of stories to be read just to you by mom.
Along with Vicks, chicken noodle soup, and 7-UP, I'm a big believer that if you're sick, you have full control over the TV.
Not much beats hot soup (beef veg is a favorite in our house, one of my kids is allergic to poultry so we have to have chicken soup alternatives), a blanket on the couch and a favorite book or tv show. Now that I've got teenagers, I find they like the same things. We sit on the couch, tissues close to hand, sipping hot soup in thick mugs and watching their favorite tv shows and movies.
My grandmother would rub Vicks on my throat, than wrap a wool sock around it to keep my throat warm and keep the vapors flowing all night. decades later I do the same for my grandkids and it is as good as ever.
I make my daughter a cup of herbal tea, and serve it to her in a fancy China tea cup with a saucer.
I little love, a lot of sleep and some children's meds. The hydrate them with pedialyte and chicken soup
We found that putting the vapo rub on their backs was awesome. They can't reach it to get it in their mouth or eyes and it is very beneficial. We also use a humidifier in the winter lest the heat dry us all up into something that resembles a raisen.
Vaporizer running in the room at night.
We sit in bed and read books. Lots of fluids and patience.
When my sweeties are hurting, I always fixed them some fresh squeezed oj mix with some 7-up. We call them orangeuppies.
I have a little hand puppet and I use a voice that my grandaughter finds very funny. The puppet doesnt smile until she does! Works great!
I use positive words all the time!
I wrap my daughter up in blankets, big pillows, a great storybook to keep her mind off her illness, I rub her in vicks, a small bowl of chicken soup and sit by her and chit chat about something fun we will do when she feels better
Being a sensitive mom, I would make sure my child was comfortable in bedding, clothing, plenty of fluids and foods. I would stoke their hair and rub the back or just sit with my hand still on them.
I guess that because I'm the "comforter" of the family, the only female in the bunch, when my boys are sick, they just want to snuggle with me. I rub their stomach or stroke their forehead, snuggle down in blankets with them, and we watch a movie. My oldest is now 13 is still does this with me. There's no one like Mom.
rub their head and sing quet songs
Warm snuggly PJ's with a vaporizer. Vick's on chest and feet and a pair of fuzzy sock.
I like to give babies hand and arm massages. DB
Vapor Baths and Grandpa's homemade Matzo Ball Soup!
cuddling up to their favorite movie.
Mine is 3 and of course reading is on top, but vaporub, snuggling, and cool juice in a sippy cup rate highly.
Lots of attention, but if they have congestion I put them in the bathroom and run a hot shower.
We slack off on school (homeschoolers, us!) and read lots of Terry Pratchett books about the Nac Mac Feegle. Hot water bottles feature prominently, and cuddle pillows, and Asterix comics. We recently discovered Vapor Baths, and those are soothing, too. Mostly what my boys want when they're sick is to use me as furniture, so we all snuggle up in the Big Bed for the day. I am required to sing "Snuggle Monkey" (to the tune of "Rubber Ducky" 92874392347 times.
OH,a back rub then chicken soup
A hot bath, the warmest pajamas, Vick's on the chest and the feet (read it somewhere and will try whatever it takes), frozen juice pops, favorite books, a blanket and lap tray on the couch with the stuffed animal of the week, lots of crayons and paper for craft projects, the least annoying videos, and lots of hugs.
Out little one is only two, but we've had our fair share of illnesses once she started daycare! Snuggling seems to help so much. She just weaned from nursing, but until then that was her greatest comfort, being able to nurse when she felt terrible. It somehow made her feel just a bit better. A vaporizer seemed to help the nights go a little smoother as well!
Lots and Lots of rest. And of course Chicken Soup
My three year old gets sick a lot. It helps clear her up if I put on the warm mist humidifier, give her a warm shower, and get her to bed early. I also buy watermelon and other special off season fruit to help keep her hydrated and happy.
Hot chocolate and way too much TV!
Unless they are extremely sick, letting them camp out on the couch with their blankets, books and favorite toys always seems to make them feel better, and more a part of things then being confined, alone in their rooms.
Milk toast and cartoon videos.
Since we homeschool, we can often continue on with schooling on the couch, watching movies that go along with our history and science lessons, snuggling with favorite blankies, using a vaporizer, Vicks if stuffy noses are bothering them. We love eating homemade chicken noodle or chicken & rice soup, so that's always something I make. Lots of extra cuddling, kind words, back and neck rubs, letting them play games on the laptop (we normally greatly limit their time with this), reading aloud to them, etc. Unless they have the stomach flu or intestinal issues, being sick is not necessarily a horrible time for them! Fortunately, they don't abuse that or try to fake illness. We also pull the piano bench next to the couch, and load it up with water, hot tea, books, drawing paper, colored pencils, drawing/art books, a healthy snack if they become hungry. I've found that snuggling with them when they are ill has never made me ill, too!

Being sick is awful but being there and making a spot where they can rest in the livingroom- even if they dose off on the couch..they can watch videos and you can watch them.Always be prepared for sick in the house, and that includes vicks. Ramen noodles, gingerale, homemade chicken soup, tea sweetened with honey-all good things to have on hand- even jello cold and good for the throat. Just letting them sit and sleep. I also make sure there are nonspill cups. Sometimes they come crawl into our big bed and even then it turns into a cuddle and slow down because I end up sleeping and snuggling and watching tv with them. Just being there and letting them know they will make it- kids get scared to and need to be reminded it is horrible now but it will pass.
I have never been one to reinvent the wheel. When my kids are sick they get a vaporizer, Vicks, Kleenex with lotion, a fleece blanket, favorite stuffed animal and MANY times my lap as a pillow. Sometimes we watch silly shows, sometimes I rub their backs or head. Honestly I am of the mantra "whatever works".
Chicken soup, soft tissues and unlimited TV on the couch with a blanket - sure to make my kid feel better.
Lots of love and cuddling on the couch!
When my kids have a cold we run a vaporizer at night to ease the cough and congestion.
i get the heating pad i bought for myself when i was pregnant, and put little Christopher on his stomach on the hot pad and then rock him in the rocking chair until he goes to sleep.
I tuck Maya into our bed with lots of pillows and blankets. I turn on a very soft cozy light. I have a special album that I played when she was a baby, of lullabies. I talk to her and rub her back.
Thank you Vicks for this great contest. My husband loves your products!
When they have a cough I let them have a little honey right on the tongue and I also make lots of camomile tea with honey
A little bit of love always helps. Books and snuggling. Sprite and crackers. i love it when my kids are sick. Just not too sick!
When our son was young, there was only one thing that worked. Humidifier, Vicks, and a lot of rocking chair time. Nothing beats hug and rocking time when you don't feel good and the combination of humidity (in the semi-desert we live in) and some Vicks would let him sleep.
Chicken Noodle soup, orange juice and sleeping in mommy and daddy's bed until the kiddos feel better. Add extra hugs and kisses and mix well.
I grew up with Vicks always being the savior to us when we were sick as kids. So when my son feels sick of course I get my vicks. Always keep it in the medicine cabinet. I give my son plenty of fluids. He loves Gatorade instead of Pedialite. I love that Vicks now has something called VIcks Casero. My mom use to give us this for sore throats. I give it to my son for his throat. I bath him. Then I give rub his body with vicks. I wrap in a warm blanket. If his throat is hurting then i give him Vicks Casero. I also make him chicken and stars soup. We hangout in bed watching his favorite cartoons.
I keep individual portions of homemade chicken stock frozen for quick comfort for my children. We raise and butcher our own chickens, so I know they are getting a healthy boost. I cook the chicken for several hours with carrots, celery, vinegar (to bring the nutrients out of the chicken bones and into the broth) and onion. Then I strain and freeze! There is nothing like a steaming mug of homemade chicken broth for a sick child.
I just love on my kids alot and try to make them as comfortable as possible! Books, music, maybe a little TV time and some good old fashioned chicken soup does the trick as well now as when I was a child.
Fever and colds are a regular thing it seems like during the school year. Something I have done for since my first born, was place Vicks on their feet & socks over when they have fever. It ALWAYS works. And of course, because a momma's love heals all, I make sure I do nothing but cater to my sick. Full of cuddles, tissue, and cartoons.
I remember when my son was sick with a cold for the first time. His little body ached from coughing all day so I gave him a bath and got him ready for bed. Soothing him was important, I recalled what my mother did when I was sick as a child and I knew that I needed the Vicks. Opening the jar brought up memories of comfort and I knew this would help him to sleep. Thanks Vicks.
When Henry is getting sniffly and snuffly we take a warm and steamy bath to help loosen the "ucky" up. Then we rub vicks on his chest, then put him in his softest PJs. Then I do the trick my mother did--heat up a washcloth in the microwave, and place the warm cloth on his chest! The cloth keeps the Vick's off his jammies and on his chest, and the added warmth just feels so nice!
Then it's time to get into his cuddly sleep sacks and have a warm bottle. We plug in his Vick's night light, kiss him goodnight, and by the time morning comes around--he's feeling MUCH better!
When my five year old son is feeling sick, I love to give him a nice warm bath, use some vicks vapo rub cream (yes really, I'm not just saying that) get him dressed in his comfy pjs and enjoy a book or two with him to help him relax. He loves the feeling of the cream being rubbed on his chest and the books take his mind of feeling "yucky." before I know it, he's breathing easier and ready to fall asleep!
