Steak-Scented Billboard: A Welcome Trend?
A new type of outdoor billboard is getting attention in Charlotte, North Carolina. Designed to promote a local grocery chain, the billboard emits a chemically created odor of barbecued beef blown through high-powered fans atop the sign.
According to ScentAir Marketing Director Murray Dameron, “It smells like grilled meat with a nice pepper rub on it.”
ScentAir has a long history of creating marketing scents for brands, including Westin Resorts and Coors beer. They claim the scents “break though the mundane and overused marketing gimmicks to reach customers emotionally.” This is one of the first outdoor billboards that uses the technology.
