I’ll never forget Thanksgiving 1992; we were living in Mexico celebrating an American holiday. It took four families to find all of the Thanksgiving fixings—turkey, cranberries, and pumpkin pie mix. As we sat around the table celebrating, the phone rang. It was my Grandma. I yelled into the phone “Happy Thanksgiving!” There was a long pause. She then informed me that it wasn’t Thanksgiving. We had celebrated the holiday a week early, but how could we have known? We were in Mexico! I’ll never forget how hard all of us laughed. Every Thanksgiving this story comes up at the table and it brings a smile to my face.
Tell us about your favorite Thanksgiving memory—or just tell us what you love about the holiday in general. Whether it’s your mom’s secret dressing recipe, gathering together with friends and family, or just the fact that you get four days off, we want to hear about it.
Chime in and let all of us know what you love.

I have a bes friend who makes the best dressing in the world. The memories alone of our two families coming together could fill a book, but this year she lost her mom. Her mom was my mo too. Not to have her sit at the head of the table will be very hard for my family because this woman was the epithany of family and grace. I think at this time of year it serves us all to take a few minutes to be thankful for the persons that cross our lives.. The importance of who sits at the head of the table really symbolizes the pecking order of our lives. For people like myself that have adopted family, let people know that God gave you a choice to choose them as family. This year I will get stronger for Mama Annis would be sitting at the table asking for my husbands rolls, and her daughter would be watching me eat my third plate of dressing, but most of all the smells and warmth of love will always be with me.. For now I know when she set out to take her nap she's taking it in a better place.
ahhh man i really loved getting 2/gether w/family & friends-mom's wonderful cooking--sweet potato pie--awsome--talking way into the night-its changed somewhat of late -people moving on- relatives lost 2/deaths but early memories were the best!!!!!!-vizzon
I have always loved the stuffing and fixings that go along with turkey at Thanksgiving. One particular memory I always have had is my grandpa always reminding our family to be grateful for all the things we had. We had a delicious meal in a warm place to share with our family around the Thanksgiving table. I have always remembered that sentiment every Thanksgiving and it is especially poignant to me after my grandpa passed away several years ago.
