The Working Woman

If you are a business owner or an employee who takes pride in her work and likes to complete tasks then you maybe in for an overwhelming week.

Imagine a typical day when the office phones are ringing “off the hook,” the customers are disgruntled, the boss needs you in his office right away and one of your family members have an emergency they need you to attend to, to add to it you have not had breakfast and you have not been able to take lunch as yet because there is so much work still to be done. This happens basically every day.

When the weekend comes, you have so many errands to run and household chores to complete. When do you make time to recuperate for the next week? What motivates us as women to continue to put up with such a demand for our time day after day? How do we manage to cope and get the job done efficiently and effectively on a consistent basis? Maybe you feel a sense of accomplishment and worth when you successfully manage all the tasks at the end of the day.

But be aware that you are exhausting your mind and body when you refuse to stop for lunch, ignore the bathroom calls, work overtime every day (neglecting family and friends). In fact, you are endangering your health - both mentally and physically. Imagine fifty-two weeks of constant work with little to no time for recreation, relaxing, rest.

Try to implement these measures:

  • Listen to what your body is telling you about getting rest and relaxing. (tired eyes is a definite indicator)
  • Take time out to recuperate from a demanding job. Read a book, do some gardening, pamper yourself. Recuperate.
  • Set realistic goals and meet them. (one that will help in your self development)
  • Schedule regular visits with your health professional. (Pap Smear, Breast Exams, Thyroid function test, etc.)
  • Meet with family and friends on a regular basis. (Invite others to your home and accept invitations)
  • Have alone time: reflective and meditative time alone

Even though you have to make a living to take care of yourself and your family do so reasonably. Ensure that you are taking care of your mental, spiritual, emotional, and physical health as you continue to meet the demands of a working woman.
