Ninety Days to a Healthier Body: Day Eight

Today was about jeans and hip bones. Odd you say? I had a dream and my guy was lying beside me circling my hip bone with his finger. It seemed more like a memory than a dream. When I woke, I fondly touched my hip bone only to find flesh. Quite a bit of flesh.

When I was young I had hips that were much wider than my waist. In order to fit into a pair of jeans at the waist, my hip bone was crushed in fabric. If the jeans fit at the hip, the waist swam with space.

Today my issue with jeans is drastically different. While my other pants are a size 24, my jeans are not. I had one pair of jeans that fit me; they were a size 26 that had extra folds of fabric at the crotch and at the knee. They were baggy. There was even extra fabric at the butt. How I have no idea since I have such a large, round buttocks. These jeans were thrown away quite quickly. I’m not sure these mutant jeans were actually a size 26 at all since no other size 26 has fit me. Truthfully, I haven’t tried too many on. It crushes my shopping glee.

I have a jean drawer for sizes 20–24, and one odd size 7, made especially for plus-sized women. Most of them are brand-new with the sticker still on. So in the drawer I went, taking out and trying on the largest jeans. The size 7 fit, but with a muffin top that made my body look like a deformed Pillsbury Doughboy. While they did close and I could breathe in them, the size 7 could not be called my size. The next largest size, 24, just closed, breathing was a challenge, and I didn’t even consider sitting. If I was younger or vainer I might just use them but breathing is more important to me than the number on my pants. All the other 24s? Not closing even if I do choose fashion over air.

My sister-in-law G put it simply, “But they will fit you and soon.” I smiled. There is something to look forward to. Small but a definite change. FYI: I have a whole wardrobe in size 22.

Since I had a high fever today, I skipped the gym. I didn’t leave the house and ate fatty comfort food. I broke the 1,200 calorie line but in the worst way through fat and grease instead of healthy food.

Weigh-in was meant to be today so even though I snuck a peek on day six, I stepped on the scale and got a pleasant surprise:

Current weight: 289, beginning weight: 298.5

Current waist by inches: fifty-two, beginning waist by inches: fifty-five

So I lost 9.5 lbs and three inches

I have to say I’m amazed.

Is there any piece or type of clothing that is challenging to you? What would it take for you to fit in to it? How can you find clothing to fit your body instead of trying to fit into pieces that don’t work? How did your first eight days go?
