Make a Difference in Your Life with Exercise

Everyone knows that regular exercise is a key element to good health. Why, then, is it so difficult sometimes to stay motivated to do this for ourselves? How do we tap into a steady stream of motivation? What will it take for you to make the connection between what you should do, and what you will do … for you?

First, understand the real benefits of exercise, and choose the benefits that matter to you the most. Exercise can help manage a healthy weight, improve your mood, help prevent some chronic diseases, help you sleep better at night and boost your energy level. There are many other benefits of exercise, but out of these, which two would you choose as the most important to you?

If you really want to make exercise a priority in your life, then it is important that you set realistic goals and reward yourself when you achieve them. Whether you want to lose weight, gain muscle or increase your endurance, it’s important to structure your exercise to fit your goals. That seems obvious, but almost everyone who starts working out eventually finds themselves losing motivation as their goals get further and further away. One way to stay motivated and avoid giving up on exercise is to make sure your goals are realistic and that you have a specific plan to reach them.

Make yourself a priority. You probably take very good care of everyone around you. But what about you? If I asked you to think fast, and name three things that you did just for yourself today that involve your health and wellness, would you be able to do it? What would the three things be? You must remember that, in order to take care of someone else, you need to be okay. Sometimes it might feel selfish, but it is almost the opposite, because failing to take care of yourself could end up impacting those around you.

Surround yourself with positive influences. Talk to others who exercise on a regular basis. Subscribe to a fitness magazine. Subscribe to this website and read our fitness tips. Find a person who is as committed as you are, or wish to be, and stay in touch via text, email or telephone … especially if you are feeling unmotivated.

Exercise is one of the best ways to make a difference in your life. You owe it to yourself to find your source of motivation … and use it wisely.
