I really started working out 3 years ago, to lose weight. Eighty pounds later, here I am, still working out. I run, I lift, and I feel GREAT. I have less anxiety and depression. My blood pressure doesn't need medication anymore. And I love the endorphins.
At 45 I've been working out for 25 years. Fitness is the fountain of youth, nature's anti-depressant, nature's anti-stress medication, and nature's liposuction! It breeds confidence, especially if you over 40, and more importantly if are struggling to reinvent right now in the midst of career setbacks. Being fit prevents you from looking and feeling frazzled and defeated. The better you look, the better you'll feel - frumpy & dumpy is very demoralizing. Fitness brings such joy! It's often a much needed distraction from everyday life and responsibilities.

I work out because I feel better when I do. It's hard finding the motivation to go four days a week after a long day at the office, but once I do I feel SO GOOD! I'm not the 'I love to exercise' type at all but I just notice I'm a happier person, and the health improving benefits are a good side effect as well :)

Aside from burning those extra calories, working out is a good way to release my stress. I feel really good after doing yoga, zumba, body pump or just doing my regular thing with the various gym equipment or machines. I also found new friends who come from different professions which also helped widen my network. I work out 3-4 times a week and if don;t it, I feel sluggish and as if my week is not complete.
