Being middle age with some pounds to lose, I signed up for a Pilate class. My second class is tonight and I am still feeling a bit sore from last week. I found the class to be fun and tiring but with a new determination to continue with it. They say (and I really would like names to know who they are) that Pilates will strengthen your core, improve your balance, and in no time at all you will feel and look better then you ever felt in your life. I don’t know if that applies to me because after my first class I learned that my core is very out of shape so I might need more time for this to happen. This was not an easy class. Pilates are tough—tougher than I imagined—I stretched, moved, and reached for muscles I did not know I had but certainly know now.
I won’t join a gym because the gyms around here are for people who are already in shape. The night adult class through the local high school is what I was looking for to get out and do something. I have the Wii fit at home that I use and some other equipment (ab lounge, stepper) but just doing it at home leaves you too much time to go back and forth with should I—shouldn’t I because I really don’t feel like working out today. I am taking this class with my sister so we can encourage each other.
So, this class is mostly middle age women, about four twenty year olds, one older couple, and I don’t know how this woman got her husband to go with her, with most of us never doing a Pilate in their life. It’s a start ...
If anyone is thinking of starting Pilates I would like to share a word of advice from what I learned so far ... keep your water bottle next to your mat and never leave it across the room because even when you with a relative ... a loved one … and you beg them to crawl to get it, she might not be able to.
If anyone has any advice to share, I would love to hear it.
