People love to see that number on the scale go down. I know, I am one of them! It’s almost as if it didn’t matter that your pants went down an entire size, unless the scale moves down. This is unfortunate because the scale loves to lie to us! I am convinced that it gets secret joy out of giving us a number we never expected. However, there are more important ways to lose weight and luckily the scale can’t do anything about it!
We hold emotional weight in all sorts of ways. Most people have stress, anxiety, depression ... whatever it may be it is weighing you down. Instead of focusing on losing weight on the scale, switch gears and focus on losing weight on your shoulders, and I don’t mean rediscovering your collar bones.
Sometimes our stressors are obvious and other times they are less. I am going to give you the most common stressors that weigh us down and how to release them.
Food/Exercise Stress
If you ever feel like you have to work out, or you must eat, or you can’t eat, or you want to eat but you shouldn’t eat; you are causing a stress in your body. Let go of any of those emotions surrounding food and exercise, just eat when you are hungry and work out when you want too. I know this is much easier said than done but start by repeating to yourself that you are no longer going to worry about food and exercise as there are much bigger events happening in your life that can use your attention.
Financial Stress
Most of us struggle with financial stress, in fact I can’t recall a time I haven’t struggled with this type of stress. I am not a financial expert nor do I know how to put someone on a budget sheet, but what I do know is that much of this is in your control. You tell yourself you can’t afford something or you don’t have enough money. Try telling yourself you have plenty of money. I know it may sound stupid but telling yourself you have no money isn’t getting you anywhere, so why not try the latter. Our minds are very powerful so just taking the time so say I am okay, will help you breathe a little easier.
Time
Nobody ever has enough time. However, telling yourself you don’t have enough time to take care of yourself is only proving that you don’t think you are worth being taken care of. There is always time to eat, drink water, sleep, move around, you might have to move some things around but taking care of yourself must always come first. If you aren’t taking care of your health, you will run out of time, and then what?
Multi-Tasking
Trying to take on too many tasks at one time will always cause a large amount of stress. I am guilty of trying to do a million things at one time because I claim I am so good at it. I tell my clients, I can talk and count reps at the same time, and I can...but how much more accurate would my number be if I didn’t? This is a small example, I don’t really feel bad if you have to do an extra push up or two (sorry!) but what other tasks are you bulking together? They probably aren’t being done properly and then it becomes stressful.
Disorganization
Being unorganized whether it is in your home or business is guaranteed to bring unwanted stress. If you don’t feel you are someone who can organize themselves then hire someone! You probably only need to use them one or two times and then you are organized for life! When everything is chaotic around you, you will feel chaotic. Your head will start to spin and then everything really falls apart.
Start taking charge of your life and lose some emotional weight. Stress can kill you and what an awful way to go. You want to live the longest, healthiest life and this disease is 100 percent preventable. So start managing your stress and feel the weight lift off your shoulders today.
