Being vegan does not mean you are malnourished; in fact, it’s the beginning of proper nutrition. Here are some tips to help you get started.
The greener the better: Concerning vegetables, if you want to know how rich they are in nutrients, look at the strength of the greenness in them. Iceberg lettuce is one of the least nutritious of the lettuce family because it is so pale. Go for greener veggies such as leaf lettuce, romaine lettuce, Brussels sprouts and of course spinach and kale. Anything leafy and green like collard greens, etc. is fair game.
Water is your friend: You need to drink at least half your body weight in ounces of water each day. The old eight glasses of water a day is not going to cut it because depending on body size, a person might need more or less water. So to find how much water you need, weigh yourself, divide the number by two and drink that in ounces. If you want to find how many cups, divide once more, this time by eight.
Reduce sugar intake: If you want to live healthier, stick to a no-sugar diet. Not only does it break down your immune system, it also adds on pounds. Substitute refined sugars for natural sugars (in moderation). Sugar in the raw, honey, maple syrup, molasses etc. are great alternatives.
Use dairy sparingly: just because you can, doesn’t mean you should. Dairy clogs your arteries and causes asthma and sinusitis even in small quantities. It’s best to cut it out completely (vegan), however if you must use dairy, use it no more than twice a week. Any more than that, substitute it for soy or another vegan option.
