Summer’s Eve Vagina Puppets: Offensive or Not?

This week, douche purveyor Summer’s Eve unveiled an ad campaign called Hail to the V that features racially stereotyped hand-puppet vaginas itching for a wipe down. Needless to say, it got weird fast.

The commercials feature three varieties of talking vajayjay: the first is Caucasian and refers to herself as your BFF, the second is a feisty Latina who’s babbling on about a leopard-print thong in Spanish, and the third is a sassy, club-going “vertical smile” who calls herself Lady Wowza—she’s black.

The provocative approach is a big departure for Summer’s Eve, who in the past has relied so heavily on euphemisms that their ads read a little more like a Barbara Walters special than a commercial for cleaning your cooter. But it seems the chatty vaggies, which are being universally panned as racist, sexist, and a little bit obscene, aren’t helping the brand with their relatability. Perhaps a little euphemism isn’t so bad after all. What do you think? Let us know in the comments below.
