Research has already shown that resveratrol can extend life. It has been referenced in over 2,000 publications. A study at Harvard University showed that resveratrol compensates for the bad effects of a high calorie diet in mice, and extends their life. What the research showed specifically was that high doses of resveratrol taken daily can offset unhealthy, high calorie diets. If people respond the same as mice, resveratrol may be able to offset the factors that are linked to the rising obesity numbers.
Two groups of mice were observed. One group was fed a diet where sixty percent of the calories came from fat. The mice developed signs of diabetes and had enlarged livers.
A second group of mice were fed the same diet but with large daily doses of resveratrol added to it. The mice still gained weight but did not have the high levels of glucose and insulin in their blood stream. Also the livers of the mice in the second group remained at a normal size.
Even more impressive was how the resveratrol extended the mice’s lifetimes. The life span was comparable to mice who ate a standard healthy diet. Going back to the potential of humans getting the same benefits, choosing longevity may actually become a reality.
To enjoy the results of a healthy lifestyle without actually following a healthy diet, except to add a daily serving of resveratrol, would appeal to many people. Even more striking is the potential to extend the life of those folks who take that daily resveratrol plus do in fact follow a healthy diet and lifestyle.
