Which End Means More?

I am a multi-tasker; it’s just who I am. One friend says it is because I am a Libra, while others state that we’re superwomen—it’s just what we do and how we roll.

Last year, my stomach took up residence at the back of my throat when my oldest sister had surgery to remove eighteen inches of her intestines due to masses and polyps. We were ecstatic and grateful to hear that all were benign. My stomach has since returned to its rightful place, but with all good things, there are extenuating circumstances—the rest of her sisters must get colonoscopys to ensure that we do not have masses and polyps. So, I took the plunge and scheduled an initial evaluation appointment for today, but being the multi-tasker that I am, I couldn’t take an afternoon off from work for just one appointment. Nooooo, I made another appt to have a consult for laser treatment for the spider veins that genetics and age have allowed to creep into my cheeks.

I am clueless as to where this streak of vanity came from! If you’ve never had or are considering laser therapy for your face, it’s not as bad as you imagined. Some small zaps that feel like someone is lightly poking you with a straight pin and then some serious zaps that resemble a rubber band popping you. I survived, so will you! I walked out looking like a) I was extremely embarrassed, b) just got out of a tanning bed, or c) chugged a bottle of cheap wine. I prefer to think it resembled “B.”

As I drove towards my initial evaluation with the Digestive Health MD, the irony of the two appointments was not lost. I was addressing both ends of my body. My sisters and friends would say, “Hey, twins”! One out of vanity, the other out of necessity (even though I blame my oldest sister for all of the indignity that I must endure). I expect one end of this body to still look youthful with no spider veins or age spots while the other ... well, it should just do its job and stay out of sight. Unfortunately, that will not be the case, and my colonoscopy is scheduled for November 5 and my second laser treatment is scheduled for a couple of days later. Do you think I can get a family discount since they are twins? (Gotta find a way to laugh everyday!)
