Acne, Hormones, B5, and Starches

I have had acne since birth. That is not true, but it feels like it. I have tried everything, including topical treatments and antibiotics. To my amazement some things would work and then after time they would stop. It arrived during moments of stress, heartache, and change. When I went to high school, I broke out. When I went to college, I broke out. When I moved to New York, I broke out. And, with each break up, job loss, or sadness, I broke out.

I began to see a trend and was saddened to think that with each life drama I may have a break out. I am no quitter. I decided to do my own personal research because dermatologists were no help. I found that my acne was hormone-based due to its location, which was primarily under and around my chin line and because I am a thirty-one-year-old woman.

Then I discovered the wonderful properties of B5 vitamins, which is pantonthenic acid. This B family vitamin is supposed to level out hormones and clear the skin. The company provider (b5clearskin.com) suggests giving it three months to really kick in. You also have to take it in high doses initially. I also read that I may have other vitamin deficiencies so I started to take a prenatal vitamin to cover all my bases. About three months ago, I started all my supplements and saw some small progress, but I wasn’t completely clear.

Therefore, I picked up The Acne Prescription by Dr. Nicholas Perricone and it changed my life. Perricone basically advised acne sufferers to focus on eating whole food and very little starches. I began to follow suit and eliminated all the tasty bread, pasta, rice, eggrolls, cookies, and lovely pies for salmon, eggs, tofu, spinach, sweet potatoes, and yogurt. The book also advises one to eat every two to three hours to maintain your blood sugar. You also have to eat your proteins first to further regulate the blood sugar. Everything is connected and that’s why acne is such a peculiar disease to heal. To my surprise after three days of my new diet, I saw a miraculous reduction in bumps. Now, that I have been doing it for almost two weeks. I am completely cleared. And, I also have a bit of a glow. I feel liberated and I want the rest of the world to feel this way. We can cure ourselves. Just figure out what your ailment is and do the research. Behave as you would if you were in college getting a PhD. It may save or change your life.

I've suffered with acne for what seems like 95% of my life. Last year, I discovered that most of my flare-ups were related to my hormones and my cycle. I started taking a recommended herb called Female Comfort. Although, it seemed to work, it contained high a dosage of Black Cohosh, which is known for headaches. I eventually stopped taking it because the headaches were too much to bear. Additionally, I felt my equilibrium was off, and my emotions were heightened. Since I have regular periods, I am able to calculate when the flare are most likely to occur, and combat it with PMS pills that I get from Dollar General. I normally start taking it about ten days before my flow starts. I also take them during the times when I am really stressed. This method is about 80% effective. I will pick up the book, and attempt revise my diet. I pray to be healed of this disease, once and for all! Thanks for the info.

Thanks Searching for the Divine! Please read The Acne Prescription by Dr. Nicholas Perricone. He really highlights everything in more detail. He has a chapter devoted to yoga as well. I also use Retin-A and proactiv together, but I know it was the diet change that made the difference. Let me know if you have any questions and if I learn anything else. I will share! Have a great day!
