Sole Stories: Are Bunions for Women Only?

A bunion is a prominence on the inner side of the foot at the base of the big toe. When a person has a bunion, the big toe angles in toward the other toes, a condition called hallux valgus. Bunions are most common in women, and the cause is often attributed to unsuitable footwear.

As a foot reader, I uncover the emotional reasons our feet look like they do. So, for foot reading purposes, we have to distinguish between a bunion and a large bone of responsibility. A large bone of responsibility is a large bump at the base of the big toe. In foot reading, it reflects taking on a lot of responsibilities. This person is always busy and rarely takes time to pamper themselves.

A bunion means you have a bump AND the bones shift and move the big toe towards the other toes. In foot reading this shows that your need to be responsible for everyone is moving you away from your own needs, goals, and ability to take care of yourself.

I believe that bunions are most common in women not because of shoes but because women often take on the nurturer-caretaker role and are most likely to put their needs behind others.

Thanks for your comment, Jamie...it's good to see someone with such an open mind. Are you a fellow toe/foot reader?

With more and more people opening their minds, bodies, and souls to the concept that everything is inter/connected, subjects such as bunions are up for discussion as potentially more than merely a physical ailment. Perhaps all physical illness/disease is connected with minds/souls - housed in the very cellular structure of the body. (I wholeheartedly believe this to be true.) No doubt even the most conservative doctor turns to the idea of “stress” as a blanket diagnosis for ailments that have no other physical explanation. In toe reading, bunions=forgiveness work that needs to be done for the perceived burden of childhood responsibilities - not an easy concept to accept, but well worth a try... for prettier feet, a healthier mind, and the potential to avoid surgery (when dealt with early enough)! Here's to healthy living through a balanced life of mind, body, and soul.
