Hibernation Rejuvenation

Yikes, spring is around the corner! Guess that means a return to shaving our legs and visiting the waxing salon. Bummer.

On the positive side, most of us are way ready to get rid of the pasty, white, dry skin and parched hair that keeps staring scarily back at us, as if to say “do something about it!”

If you are too, here are five excellent products for shedding your winter skin, and silking up for spring:

Lemon Body Cream by Co. Bigelow: This is one of those products that smells so good, you’ll be seriously tempted to taste it. A lightweight cream with just a hint of lemon oil, your skin will drink it up and shine with glee. Virtually no residue on your body, just the faint odor of lemon. Strangely enough, the label states it's fragrance-free, which reminds of us Clinton saying he didn’t inhale. Why would you buy the product if you didn’t want to smell lemon? Whatever. This stuff just feels great. www.drugstore.com

Neutrogena Body Oil: I must issue a warning for all my snooty friends about this product: it comes from a drugstore! Steer clear all product snobs, and head to Saks instead. Okay, now that we have that out of the way, this is a light, sesame scented oil to be slathered on, while still damp, after you shower. Although light-weight, it is still oil. So, stay in your towel or an old robe (or stay naked if you dare!) for an hour before putting on clothes. Or, better yet, use before bed, and throw on your favorite (i.e. rattiest) p.j.’s. www.drugstore.com

Schnuggle (King of Skin) Lush Body Butter: This soap, with cocoa and shea butter, is amazing. You put it on and it just doesn’t come off–the moisturizing part that is! It leaves your skin with a balmy coating that feels, well, lush! You won’t even feel like you need body lotion after using this soap. Smells great, too. And lastly, for all you people who are crazed about saving the environment, or will do anything to feel a kinship with Leonardo DiCaprico, Lush is a “green” company. http://www.lush.com/cgi-bin/lushdb/2176

Jurlique Day Care Face Cream: This rich emollient cream is advertised for daytime use, but it’s as thick and creamy as any night cream I’ve ever used. In fact, when my skin is dead-of-winter dry, I use it both morning and night. It’s thick without being greasy, has a pleasant light scent and is just one of those creams that feels like it is doing its job. www.jurlique.com.au

Kérastase Nutritive Masquintense: This Kerastase line is owned by L’Oréal, so no idea why they still feel the need to have a product name that, not only we can’t say, but we don’t understand! Annoyances aside, this product works. Leave it on for ten minutes after shampooing and you're left with silky, shiny, conditioned hair. Also a nice way to get rid of flyaways and smooth out split ends. It says on the container top “for thick, dry hair.” My hair isn’t thick, just dry, but I use it anyways, and the result is just a lovely slightly glossy finish without being heavy. www.drugstore.com.

Mistral Shea Butter with Healing Calendula: This thick, unscented balm softens dry skin, from the calves to the elbows. Slather it on dry, cracked feet and wear socks to bed. You can also use it on lips and face. And it isn’t greasy in the least. Put it on, and your skin literally absorbs it. www.mistralsoap.com

So, there you have it, girls. Now, go get all smooth and silky. Before you know it, it’ll be bikini time.
