I am a disabled individual diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, one of the many autoimmune diseases arising in America and the world. It is in the category of other neurological diseases: lupus, brain injuries, Parkinson, Diabetes, Lyme, Alzhemier’s and many more. you see these illnesses are difficult for the “Healthy person to see the damage inside our bodies as these diseases are dominant in our bodies, until a trauma, car accident, metabolic deficiency occurs, then it is activated.
Multiple Sclerosis is a neurological disease where the myelin in the brain is attacked by antibodies that have gone haywire and crosses into the brain blood barrier. It then causes scars or lesions to develop in our brain, consuming the myelin sheath, breaking it down, leaving the inside connections vulnerable to scarring and disability. The myelin sheath in our brain are designed as to protect cables that are surrounding the inside links of our activity center. These connections are like a telephone connection to all actions of our bodies. They are there to protect our capabilities to function physically, emotionally, and cognitively. If the antibodies attack the brain wiring, then scarring develops and leads to deterioration of the areas of the brain that is attacked.
As the wiring under the myelin is scarred, depending upon the area, many symptoms can occur, such as weakness and numbness in the limbs. I don’t know how many people thought I was drunk or high because I could not walk, talk, think correctly, see correctly, hear correctly, and so many more complications with this “monster.” You can review more information about Multiple Sclerosis and other autoimmune diseases on Google, The National MS Society and other websites. It is now becoming prevalent with our young people too. In the hot weather, many symptoms are very active and we suffer from MS flare-ups.
So, next time when you are out in public, please do not judge others, without finding out the facts. I may look healthy outside, but I just had a MS flare and could not breathe in the heat wave and went to Vassar Hospital for five days. Thank you to the very professional staff that helped me with my MS flare-up. We need to go back to the basics: healthy foods, clean air, stay away from stress, and help a neighbor when in need.
You definitely need a good sense of humor as well; life is a roller coaster ride for us unique individuals. Congratulations on ADA laws; they are a person’s best defense against an unknown mystery of life. Everyone deserves their right to life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness.
