Ninety Days to a Healthier Body: Day Seven

I slept until 12 p.m. today and didn’t wake up all night. That can only mean one thing: I’m sick. There are only two things in my life that make me sleep all night through: pregnancy and sickness. I’m not pregnant.

Sure enough, I have a fever, scratchy throat, and my body aches in all the places that shouldn’t ache. I missed my morning workout and studio time. All my clients are scheduled for the afternoon.

I had coffee for breakfast, same for lunch plus an apple, and for dinner wonton soup. This is horrible. Not only is it not enough food, but I lost a day of walking or going to the gym. Isn’t my body supposed to be healthier? Why the hell am I sick? I have no appetite and that’s okay. I’m not well. So it’s time to follow my body cues, not a plan.

It’s not following body cues that helped get me here. What was more important than taking care of my body? Just about everything. Work, love, my guy, my family, his family, clients, bills, letting off steam, adventures taken in between being productive, and of course, being productive.

By 2 p.m. I had ordered lunch for my guy, had my second cup of coffee, and headed to the studio. I took it slow and closed up early. It’s okay that I didn’t work out. Okay that I didn’t eat 1,200 calories. It’s okay because I paid attention to my body.

I curled up on the couch with a good book and a blanket. Tomorrow is a new day. A new start. Sometimes people think one pause or one step back is the end of the world. It isn’t. Sometimes the pauses are important for progress. Today I made progress listening to my body.

How do you feel when you hit a bump in your plans? Do you go with the flow? Or do you stop?
